A very wise and practical book for ACOA's and others
Even though I didn't grow up in an alcoholic home I did grow up in a dysfunctional one. Most people come from dysfunctional families of some kind, only the lucky few miss out on this grand adventure...lol! I enjoyed this book immensely and highly recommend it to anyone interested in understanding themselves, their families of origin, and their current family situation. Many nuggets of wisdom in this volume. A true blessing to anyone looking for emotional healing.
Breaking the pattern
I think that it is a fantastic book for anyone that has come from a dysfunctional family in any shape of form. I thought at first that because my parents werent alcoholics it would not help me but I was wrong. If you are prepared to change and break the pattern that you have seen in your family and in your own behaviour this book can help you to understand that you are not alone and that those feelings that you have are normal.
Reading the experiences of those people in the book it helps to try to get an inside into your own behaviour and feelings, it is a great book to help you through your own discovery as it triggers memories and feelings (at least it did it for me)

This book changed my life
When I read The Courage to Change the first time (1987, the original edition) it changed my life because it explained alcoholism in a concrete way that was easy to understand. The stories from alcoholic (and some nonalcoholic) celebrities go a long way toward illustrating the damage this disease causes while showing that you don't have to be the proverbial falling-down drunk or daily drinker to be an alcoholic. The stories also, by the way, are entertaining and show the humanity of some of the household names who tell them. Wholey mixes up the rhythm of this book enough that you don't get bored. Something here for everyone--I've personally bought literally more than 12 copies to give away. I recommend it highly. Thanks, Dennis Wholey!

Inspiring
This was a quick and involvng read for me. It got me to thinking about changes of all kinds in a more positive light. I would recommend this to anyone going through anything that seems like upheaval--whether it's divorce, job change, etc. It can help you to change your thinking from disaster to great opportunity that was meant to be.
Useful Examples from Life
The best thing about "The Miracle of Change" is reading the real-life stories of people, both celebrities and non-celebrities. Each person talks about Change, how it affects them and how they learn from it. One of the most inspring was Michael J. Fox's story. People from all walks of life talk about their experiences.
This book is a must for anyone going through any changes in their life. It will definately inspire you and give you strength.
Change for everyone
Unanticipated events always confront us to make changes. Things change, so do our priorities and values. "The Miracle of Change" reflects how individuals learn new qualities and new things about them. ...And either flipping the page randomly or selecting a particular topic to read helps the reader gain insights in applying change approriately in life.
