A book that I use on a constant basis. It tells me all I need to know on where to go and where to shop in America. I look forward to the next edition.

The Wisdom of John Paul II describes the Pope's innermost thoughts on subjects such as abortion, education, war, religion, and love. The book is well-written and interesting as well because it's made of quotes from speeches made by the Holy Father. The Pope's views on certain issues have often been controversial, but certainly there's a lot of wisdom in his words.

Nick Bakalar and Richard Balkin have scoured numerous encyclicals, speeches, and letters to assemble this wonderful treasury of Pope John Paul II's thoughts on many questions facing today's society. The result is a wealth of wisdom and insight from the most seen man in the world. This isn't a book of answers to life's vital questions; rather, it offers the Pope's and the Church's view on such issues and asks us to question our attitudes and feelings. The topics are far-ranging, both contemporary and timeless. Matters of love, family, death, women, work, and youth are addressed as well as subjects such as human rights and progress and the modern world. Bakalar and Balkin's greatest strength in composing this book is the wide spectrum they've selected from. These issues are universal, and you will find something that speaks to you. You'll probably discover much more.

"The Wisdom of John Paul II" is not only a great addition to your inspirational or religious library; it's also a great addition to any library. I suggest giving this book as a gift, especially if you're looking for something meaningful that can be read over and over (instead of being used as a dust-collector). Non-Catholics and even non-religious will find the Pope's words inspiring, and his message of universal love can be understood and appreciated by all. He does not viciously attack groups in conflict with Church teachings but graciously approaches controversy as does a leader of the faith. Wherever he acts as an apologetic, he does so with the patience and firmness that has guided the Church through more than two decades.

This book, in part, acts as an intimate autobiography as it his diary of his times and how he has confronted the Church and society he has been entrusted. What makes this papal journal stand out from the rest though is that it is more than a portrait of the Pope or a collection of his quotes. His words represent one man's thoughts, but it also gives us a strong picture of his vision for the Catholic Church of the new millennium. Every issue is one that immediately concerns contemporary society, and that makes this book such an enjoyable and necessary read.

From the police who roam the streets to those taking their final exam at Dunkin' Donuts University, you will be introduced to a very interesting group of people.

As a mixed race Mexican/Anglo myself, I saw my own childhood as well as parts of my adult life in Dean Johnson's writing. While reading like an autobiography, this book is not lacking in scholarship. The numerous and current scholarly references for each chapter provide a wealth of resources for those who desire to learn more about the topics of which Dean Johnson speaks. I am enriched by having read this book.

I am an American born Hispanic, from a large family. Like a great percentage of families in this country, my siblings and children have married non-Hispanic partners, thus we have experienced several of the issues raised by Dean Johnson in his poignant history. This book was begging to be written. It was a treat to read things that have long remained unsaid, or possibly said by those who have not lived its sad truths. Since massacres of innocent multitudes by racially intolerant psychopaths are becoming commonplace, this book should be included in every school library.

As a person of Latino/Anglo heritage, I was quite excited when I saw this book at my favorite bookstore. We do not often hear about us when racially-mixed people are discussed. Johnson's experiences mirrored many of my own and I found myself verbally agreeing with him as I read the book! As a future scholar in the area of multiracial identity, I will certainly utilize this book in my classroom!

Having first gotten to know The White Dog Cafe in my frequent meals there during college, I was delighted (understatement) to find that the restaurant had its own cookbook. The book, which is a solid thickness with plenty of recipe options, is one of my very favorites. There are items that are more complicated and others that are perfect for a backyard BBQ. Variety being key and inside bits of information adding to the richness of this book. For instance, in a recipe calling for fresh artichokes, the page would give you a little information on cleaning fresh artichokes. The kind of background many cooks need and most cookbooks neglect to offer. I would give this cookbook a five-star rating, but I am allergic to about 25% of its recipes so I can't say how great those are. Those I've tried, however, are yummy (never any leftovers) and popular with kids and adults alike.

I own lots of cookbooks (over 200) and the White Dog Cafe cookbook is one of my favorites. I have tried about half of the book's recipes and have never been disappointed. The recipes are interesting, using ingredients that non-professionals can find easily. The techniques are easy and the food is very tasty. The food is also creative and can be made (even for the first time)without a household staff of 12! The White Dog Cafe's Black Bean Soup is the only version I really like and I have made it several times. The social philosophy of the authors is an added bonus.

I use this Cook Book all the time when I want to prepare a special meal without much effort or fuss. The White Dog Cafe Cookbook has never failed me: all of the recipes I've tried yield yummy food with a bit of a kick.

The White Dog Cafe is a progressive and socially-responsible restaurant in Philadelphia. While I've never eaten there, the next time I'm out that way I'm going to give it a try because the recipes here are so excellent.

The Soups, Salads and Light Meals, Main Courses, and Desserts sections are the ones I use most often. The Soups are fantastic. I'm a real soup lover, and am always looking for new and (more exciting) soups to try. Our favorites are the Sweet Potato and Lemon Grass Soup with Peanut Pesto (a Vietnamese-inspired dish), the Curried Aplle Bisque, and the French Mushroom Soup. The salads are equally impressive, especially the Warm Mushroom Spinach Salad which always wins great praise at dinner parties. Many of the main courses require demi-glace (kind of a pain) but the Chicken and Mushrooms in Marsala-Sage Sauce is excellent, as is the Rosemary-Mustard London Broil with Wild Mushroom Glaze. In desserts the Apple-Cranberry Deep-dish Streusel Pie has become a Thanksgiving tradition, and the Milk Chocolate Cream Pie will please all chocolate lovers, kids, and kids at heart.

I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy this book, but will turn to it again and again.

"The Silent Brotherhood" is certainly a good read, and is also extremely well-researched, but "Brotherhood of Murder" by Thomas Martinez is even better, as it is a firsthand account. Still, Flynn & Gerhardt present the facts in a straightforward, objective manner. Definitely recommended.

Excellent read. The authors do a great job of reporting the facts surrounding Robert Matthews and those ill-fated souls around him.

The co-authors (Flynn and Gerhardt) are reporters in the Denver area, where the murder of Alan Berg took place at the hands of the subjects of the book. The book is reported factually, but gives no glory to Matthews and his band of followers. Morris Dees, head of the Southern Poverty Law Center and bitter enemy of racism in all its forms, had this to say about the book, "The Silent Brotherhood is a valuable contribution to our understanding of the Order and others like them." The book accomplishes this by tracing the development of the Order, a far right extremist group that organized itself and carried out armed robberies to fund its terrorist activities. The book chronicles the lives of the Order's most prominent members as well. The book culminates in a recounting of the events near Seattle where Matthews, the leader of the group, was tracked by authorities and ulitmately met his end.

Mistakes galore-i.e. in one recipe 5 ounces of sliced wild mushrooms makes 2 cups and in another 1/4 pounds(sic) makes 8 cups. The recipe for veal glace is given as page 000, indicates that the vein can be pulled from a cooked shrimp and so it goes.

For variety and interesting dishes, this is one of the best cookbooks I've ever seen. The flavor mixtures are creative, the recipes simple and the ingredients are common enough that they are usually in my frig or cupboard. My husband (a bit of a gourmand) and my 6 year old daughter have loved everything that I've made from the book. I bought a used copy for $10, which turned out to be autographed by the two authors. My only wish is that 1) it was printed in a spiral-bound version, and 2) the authors produce a second book soon.

I love this cook book. I love reading it. I love cooking from it. If you are looking for something different to read or to cook, this is the book for you. The Black Bean soup is the best I have found. The layered meat loaf is wonderful. The authors' commitment to good food and good community is inspiring, and reminds me of the role food - its preparation and its consumption - can play in making the world a better place.

This book is written by people ignorant of science and evolution for people with a blind bias against science. Science is a very specific process of hypothesis and testing. The Theory of Evoluion adheres to this process rigidly while the "theory" (really myth) of creationism does not in any way follow the scientific process. As a scientist myself I can tell you that Evolution is well understood even to some degree at the molecular level. Scientists have even observed some examples of evolution in action and the Theory of Evolution is as solidly tested a theory as almost any other in science. The same concepts that tell us Evolution is true are the same concepts that give us most of our biotechnology advancements. This book ignores the scientific process and revels in its own ignorance. Exposing a child to this pack of lies is irresponsible.

This is a really good book - it explains HOW evolution is not possible, and doesn't say it just isn't possible with no scientific backing. So many people blindly follow evolution, saying that it goes along with scientific studies, but haven't explored it as an impossibility. Isn't that how you should go about an "experiment"? You should find all the possible ways that it is untrue, and try to prove your hypothesis false, NOT TRUE! The lame excuse that it doesn't accurately follow science is just defending something you've never really explored. Other than that, the book is a little confusing; the author's move at a quick pace, but they do include study questions to review what you've learned. They attempt to use "cool" language, but it only makes the authors look like they're trying to fit in. It is just a small annoyance, though. This book cannot be passed up!

"What's with the Mutant in the Microscope?" by Kevin Johnson and James White is a small book with an obvious creationist stand point on evolution. The authors strive to give the reader that 'one reason' to think humans were created by God. While attempting to explain the DNA in a simplistic form, the use of humor keeps it light and not too scietific.
I would say that this book was written towards a teen audience. It seems that the style and layout is directed to the youth who can't stay scietific for too long and in one sitting.
I loved this book! Unlike some books, this one really felt complete at the end. There were no loose ends, and I felt like I truly knew and understood what they discussed. I would most certainly reccomend this book to a teen who feels unstable with the creationism beliefs. It is a great resource for strengtening your knowledge on this side of the evolution issue.

I've been giving Doyle's books regularly as gifts for holidays, birthdays and graduations. They seem to strike just the right light-hearted note for me and my friends. I thought HTMBW would be offensive and shallow but was pleasantly surprised to note it's well-written, funny and instructive. It was serendipity to come across a review of the book a few years ago in the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER. My curiousity was aroused and Doyle has since become my favorite author. Before him it was P. G. Wodehouse, another low-key smoothie.

I met the author at a book-signing on Cape Cod and he was just as charming in person as he is in print. Kevin Doyle informed me that he doesn't "hit on" on women or try to pick them up but finds beauty in all women. Mr. Doyle said he has been blessed with opportunities to enjoy the company of attractive and accomplished female acquaintances since his wife died.
He also informed all of us at the event that he is a marketing consultant and has produced many business manuals which he offers for sale when he lectures at Harvard Biz and the Sloane School in Cambridge.

HTMBW is the third in a series by my favorite author I discovered in Playboy Magazine a few years ago. I'm a busy professional without a lot of time for socializing and Doyle's coaching has provided me with the tools to meet fascinating women as well as improve the quality of companionship I've become accustomed to. Kevin Doyle struck just the right tone with me with Dating Younger Women and he's done it again with this new illustrated trade paperback How to Meet Beautiful Women. My hat is off to the author!

One of the worst technical books I read recently. Among plenty of stupid, badly written sentences just one thing: I never found in the book a well wrriten definition - the author tends to define "unknown by unknown" from the first page of the book. If you are new to the subject the book will frustrate you. If you are already familiar with AD poor organization and style will frustrate you as well.

This is an excellent book and exceptionally useful! I've read it from over to cover and found countless nuggets that helped me out. Overall, this book is well organized. It's content flows well and subject matter is very well written. This book serves as a reference on the topic of Active Server Directory administration.

This is exactly what I was looking for to understand Active Directory. It is very concise on the abilities of the product. Very Useful.
