"Lily's White Lace" vows to last
The wonders of Carolyn Brown's romances never cease. She continues to create love stories that last in the readers' minds. "Lily's White Lace" does just that. Be sure to read her other Avalon Books romances and historical romances.

Lily's White Lace
Imagine finding out before you say I do that your husband to be has been cheating on you. What a terrible feeling. But what do you do? If you're smart like Lily, you would leave him standing at the altar. But shedding tissue and tissue over leaving someone that you did love and trust isn't an easy thing. And never trusting a man again is even harder, especially when a fine man like Jesse comes along. In the end, stubborness does find a way out the window and Lily finds herself falling for Jesse, as he does with her. They know that they were meant to be together. And true love finds a way to bring them together always. This is a superb book and deserves a ten stars plus. Lily's White Lace is a book that brings love into any home. You will love this book from the beginning to the end. A ten stars plus for any reader. You will be touched by the wonderfully written story as you turn page after page. Great book!!!

The book "White Lilacs" was ok..........................
I read the book "White Lilacs" for a school project, and to me the book was kind of boring except with one or two parts that made me not want to put the book down. I would recommend this book for older adelescents and not for young elementary school children. The book's comprehention was quite difficult at some parts, and unless you really get into the book it may be hard to understand. Finally, honestly the book just basically bored me, but that's just my opinion, and all of you reading this right now may have a different opinion, so if you just want to find a book that you are not expecting to be filled with action and violence, then you may like to try and take a look at this book.

A good historical read!
I really enjoyed this book! It was well written and gave you a good sense of what the black community had to endure. It showed that even though the black people were freed from slavery, there life was far from being equal. Sometimes it was hard to believe just how awful the white people could be. I really felt for Rose Lee throughout the book. She had to go through so much when she is only a young girl. She shouldn't have to deal with so much racisim. If you want a good historical read, this is a great book!

White Lilacs- The forgotten parts of American History
I am a college student, and I read White Lilacs for a class project. This book is a valuable supplement to any middle school curriculum because it thoroughly presents elements of history that social studies textbooks often overlook: namely, that of African-Americans. White Lilacs is very well written, and offers a poignant illustration of true events in the 1920s. It accurately portrays black church tradition, the experience of black soldiers in World War I, and the different attitudes blacks and whites had towards race in the 1920s. As I am personally very concerned with the issue of racial reconciliation, I find this book a valuable tool in helping both white and black people to understand from whence we have come, and what prevailing attitudes have caused race relations in the U.S. to develop as they have.

ONLY COMMON SENSE
THIS BOOK COVERS MATERIAL ALREADY KNOWN TO ALL READERS OVER THE AGE OF 16. DOES NOT FORMULATE OR DISCUSS ANY PRATICAL PLAN FOR DEBT REDUCTION

Worth the price, and more
Contrary to the preceding opinion from Alabama, this book is a good buy. It tells how to get rid of all your debt in the shortest possible timeframe, saving thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. It even gives a few examples of ways to decrease expenses so that you can use the difference to accelerate repayment of your debts. Following the advice in the book, I expect to be completely out of debt (over $140k, including the mortgage) within 5 years and expect to retire (comfortably) at least seven years earlier than I had anticipated. (P.S. -- I don't make six figures and have a young child.)

The only thing I would change is that the author tells you where to go to find the "best" credit cards. Is there really such a thing? Getting another credit card will, over time, put far too many people back to square one. If you keep in mind that if you can't buy something for cash, that means you can't afford it -- this book can take you the rest of the way.

If you think this book is useless you're probably looking for an easy way out of debt (expecting an inheritance?).

inspiring
I have read many books about getting out of debt. Most of them have approx the same theories. I gathered two valuable pieces of information from this book. The first one was about how to go about paying off the mortgage and the second was how to prioritize your credit card bills to pay off. Inspiring!

A picture book with enduring appeal
My daughter bought this book ... when she turned four. She just turned ten and still loves to have this story read to her and her siblings. I think they love both the story (slightly scary) and the amazing illustrations.

A Magical, Enchanting African Tale
This is a fabulous story my twin boys love to read over and over! The art is stunning and intriguing - a typical African tale dealing with good and evil and enchantment . . .
A great African book - my boys are 3 1/2 and they love it, but I could see kids liking it up to 8 or so.

An Indian in White America

Mark Monroe's real experiences.
Mr. Monroe does an excellent job of explaining how the Native Americans live in Nebraska. His examples are true to life, and are believable. I was also suprised that I know some of the people that Mr. Monroe wrote about, and the troubles that they have had in Alliance, Nebraska, because they were Lakota.

Whuppity Stoorie
This charming Scottish folktale has elements of the classic Rumpelstiltskin. When Kate's mother makes a deal with the fairy who promises to heal the family's prized pig, Grumphie, Kate is the prize unless her mother can come up with the fairy's name. The illustrations complement the text with soft muted colors and traditional renditions of the Scottish countryside. A nice addition to collections for lovers of fairy tales and folklore.

Reconstructing a culture entirely from religious art
Mesoamerican archaeology is a little world by itself - I know, because I used to live in it. It has a very cosy relationship with museums and the "art" collectors who buy the objects that are looted from archaeological sites, which lie destroyed, torn into shreds under the forests all over Central America and Mexico. But it has almost no touch with reality any more. The things they say about the ancient Olmec are almost fantasy, because in truth we know so little about these people. Almost all the objects in this book were stolen from Mexico, ripped from the archaeological context that might tell us something about their real meaning. These are probably religious articles - we may never know. But imagine trying to reconstruct the rich life of rennaisance Italy by looking at reliquaries in Catholic churches! If you are still persuaded by the "mysterious Olmec" propaganda spouted by Coe and his looter buddies, go read Flannery & Marcus in the first 2000 issue of the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology, and think it over.

A Must Have for any Olmec Enthusiast
The Olmec World is an amazing resource for those who study or have an appreciation of early Mesoamerican Art. At its most basic level The Olmec World is the catalogue of the 1996 Olmec Exhibition at the Art Museum at Princeton University the first comprehensive show of Olmec art in America. Drawing upon nearly all of the major Olmec museum collections in North America from Dunbarton Oaks to Princeton's own expansive holdings, the exhibition also drew heavily from many private collections never before shown to the general public. For instance, John Stokes' amazing collection of ceramic babies and jade masks are showcased in this catalogue. However, almost as impressive as the pictures are the essays in this collection. Michael Coe has done a marvelous job of soliticing and editing a myriad of papers on the mysterious Olmec.

To many mystery allusions
I usually enjoy Carolyn Hart's mysteries, but in this one there was not enough action and there were WAY too many allusions to other mystery writers and their books. A few here and there is fine, but it seemed that the references were sprinkled on every page. Please, Ms. Hart--give it a rest!

Murder among the nabobs
...This addition to the Death on Demand Series is a bit more wordy than some of the others and Annie and Max seem to do a lot of investigating without making much progress. Also Max's mother seems to be a silly, unnecessary character who doesn't add much to the proceedings. Fans of Carolyn Hart will probably want to read this book, but it is not her best.

Loved ,loved, loved it!
Annie and Max are in top form, as always. I read the book in one evening, and started it again this morning! I had the opportunity recently to meet Ms. Hart at a local bookstore, and she was as charming as I expected the creator of Broward's Rock to be. On a contrary note, though, not sure I like the new Chief. Otherwise, it was absolutely great!
