Tuck, In the Pool
This is a book I have read again and again to my children. It is the perfect summer time book that introduces children to meaning of the word "community" and the fears associated with learning how to swim. Grab a glass of lemonade and enjoy!

Waterhole: How to Dig Your Own Well
Published in Paperback by Balboa Pub Co (1992)
Authors: Bob Mellin and Martha Weston

Detailed, Readable, and Fun
Why drill your own well? Because it's useful to have free water where you need it, especially if you have no water on your property or are using expensive city water to maintain a large garden. Bringing in a professional well driller can be expensive, and, besides, why should he have all the fun?

Unlike old-fashioned, large-diameter wells that put you in the bottom of a hole that might collapse, modern wells are small-bore affairs, and you stay safely up on the surface.

WATERHOLE describes with perfect clarity the process of digging a modern four-inch-diameter well using only hand tools. In doing so, he not only shows you how to drill your own well for practically nothing, but he gives you a complete course in doing so safely and correctly, so you end up with a well that's safe to drink from and doesn't vector contaminants into the water table.

He then shows you how to install PVC pipe as a well casing and how to select and install your pump. This slim little volume has everything.

The text is fun to read and is lavishly illustrated.

Fun, fun, fun for preschoolers and up
This book contains fun learning ideas on turning your preschooler on to the love of words. There are fun activities using magnetic alphabets, making pancakes into letter shapes, rhyming games, grab bag tales, alphabet soup, alphabet books, writing tips, and on and on. It's a little gem of a book, but one you'll refer to whenever you're stumped for a teaching idea.

nice halloween alternative, with George
This Curious George book is a nice alternative to other Halloween books, because it explores Halloween traditions other than trick-or-treating.

Curious George and the man with the yellow hat go to a friends house for a Halloween party, and it is a costume party. George and his friend have to borrow costumes from the hostess, and of course George's curiosity gets him in trouble. The guests play games like bobbing for apples.

This book is funny, like most curious george books. Children aged three and four who are just becoming familiar with Halloween will appreciate George's antics, and learn about halloween and costume parties at the same time.

There is nothing in this book that scared my son, aged 3. I don't think there is anything in here that would scare the average child of 3 or 4 years old. It's wholesome Halloween fun.

Typical Curious Fun!
At first I was a little suspicious about this book, "illustrated in the style of H.A.Rey by Martha Weston." I didn't want anybody messing with my dearly loved friend, Curious George! I am glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised. This book tells the Halloween adventures of our curious little pal, as he and the man with the yellow hat go to a costume party. At first, George finds it a bit scary because he doesn't understand about make-believe dress-up, but then he gets into the fun of it. They need to borrow costumes from the hostess of the party and George has lots and lots of choices. Due to George's typical curiosity, the party becomes much more lively than the hostess intended! The story and the illustrations are true to the style we know and love from the original Curious George books by Margret and H.A. Rey. The pictures are brimming with action and excitement and colorful fun. This story has the added benefit of introducing some Halloween characters that little ones may be frightened of and showing that they are really just pretend and taking the scariness out of them. It also shows fun Halloween customs like jack-o-lanterns, bobbing for apples and other party activities. This is a real treat for Curious George fans and for fans of Halloween. Don't miss it.

Fine Curious George book
My son is two years old, and loves this Curious George book. Curious George Goes to an Ice Cream Shop was not written by H.A. Rey, the creator of Curious George. Rather, it was adapted from a Curious George video.

Still, it's a great story.

The Man With the Yellow Hat leaves George in the custody of Mr. Herb, at Mr. Herb's new ice cream shop. When George is unattended, he jumps on the counter, and begins adding scoops of various flavors to Mr. Herb's order! Later, he hops onto a counter near a window looking into the street. His antics prompt many onlookers, and suddenly Mr. Herb has more ice cream orders than he can handle!

As always, the mischievous George escapes any real trouble, while having a lot of fun. Everything turns out well.

Curious George Goes to an Ice Cream Shop
Once again George gets into mischief when the man in the yellow hat is not looking. George keeps us in stitches as he goes from one flavor to the next. Who wouldn't want to try ALL the flavors in the ice cream shop? This is a lovely book, and my students especially enjoyed reading it the day we made our own homemade ice cream!

The Laughing Classroom
This book is the best! It is a MUST for all teachers! It covers ways to really reach your students as well as keep your sanity. I cannot say enough... It is invaluable! Do not hesitate to purchase this incredible book. I cannot believe this is not mandatory to all educators!

Fun and Practical
I loved this book! There is so much talk today about discipline and consequences. It was great to hear about warmth and rapport in teaching. If you use these techniquese you'll find students are naturally more cooperative and positive. I like the practical approach---lots of ready to use ideas, and meant to be copied, pages. A wonderful side benefit is that it makes teaching more fun for the teacher too.

This Book Rocks
I met one of the authors at a conference a couple of years ago, and was enchanted with her style so I bought the book. It is wonderful! Great ideas and practical games that teach lessons with multiple target educational objectives. I'm a motivational speaker and a theatre teacher. Working with the kinesthetic learner is a challenge. These exercises help make learning fun!

The book was good but to basic for most people.
The book offered good information but really basic information. The book also didn't have any tips for getting started except make a flyer. So i recommend getting another babysitting book.

The New Complete Babysitter's Handbook is awesome!!!
This book gives you all you need to know about babysitting and is fun to read. I think it is quite descriptive on the processes of first aid and so on. I think everyone will enjoy reading this book, kids who are just starting to babysit or who already babysit but just want to brush up on stuff.

Nate the Great San Francisco Detective
When Nate the Great went to San Francisco to visit his cousin Olivia, he couldn't spot her feather boa in the crowd at the airport. Instead, a chauffeur named Willie with a sign that said NATE THE GREAT picked him up. Willie escorted Sludge and "Mr. Great" to the limo, explaining that Olivia is on a case. While Nate (Mr. Great)waited for Olivia, he answered her phone and decided to help on the case of Duncan's missing joke book, named Joke Stew. Readers will enjoy retracing Duncan's steps back to the pancake house, the bookstore, and finally finding the book in the cookbook section. Thus, it was no longer the end of the world for Duncan, who can meet his 2 o'clock deadline for telling a joke. Illustrations are colorful and attractive, and truly in the style of Marc Simont, maintaining the right feel for young readers. The challenge of staying one step ahead of Nate and Sludge, as well as the reading of this easy reader, will be a mind sharpener for beginning readers. Buy!

Fun and easy
All the books in this series are user friendly and the activities use materials that you have on hand. I have often referred to them when trying to occupy my 3 year old son in a way that is also fun for me. In fact we played the float-a-boat game today. In addition to the actual activity, the author also gives little hints designed to improve your child's problem solving skills. My only disappointment is that these books are not as readily available as they once were.

What Big Teeth You Have

4 1/2* Going Dental
This book turns the potentially mundane topic of animal teeth into a fascinating one. Patricia Lauber goes beyond the expected description of incisor, canine, and molar functions by presenting lots of details and interesting facts. For example, felines have sharper teeth than canines because most big cats (e.g., lions) pounce on rather than chase after prey. Elephants, walruses, and hippos use their tusks to dig, to get around, for defense, and for hunting. The writing is clear and informal: “Perhaps you are wondering how an animal with such big teeth can close its mouth. The answer is that there are two pockets in the upper jaw. When a hippos closes its mouth, the lower canines fit into these pockets.”

Lauber tells how animals can be classified by their teeth, and describes a variety of animals, including bats, dinosaurs, sea mammals, fish, and reptiles. The book is aimed primarily at elementary school readers, although older children will find much of the material enjoyable and interesting. There are 60 pages, with black and white illustrations and an index.
