Disneyland the Nickel Tour,2nd Edition
If you love Disneyland and its history, you will LOVE this book. It features every postcard that has been published by Disneyland. What makes this book special is that they feature other photos to flesh out the full story. You relive every trip you've made to the park. If you do have a collection of the postcards, a checklist is also featured. This book was everything I had hoped for and more!

The Finest Disneyland History In Print!
We're just glad this book is back in print for all to enjoy! With first editions now selling for over $200, it's great to see the 2nd edition just in time for Disneyland's 45th Anniversary. The story of Walt Disney and Disneyland is told through the history of Disneyland souvenir postcards from 1955 thru the present. Bruce Gordon and David Mumford are to be commended for this true labor of love. The book is jam packed with hundreds of color and black & white photos (as well as images of the original Disneyland postcards); and the accompanying text accurately tells the story of Walt Disney's creative vision for a new form of family entertainment. Beautifully bound and printed with quality materials. A fascinating read from cover to cover! Bravo!

BURSTING AT THE SEAMS!
If you're a fan of Disneyland and it's history, then this book is a must! I was astounded by the scope of this work, and the attention to detail. It covers Disneyland from it's beginnings in the early 50's to the present day with individual "stories" about the different aspects of the park. Accompaning these "stories" are hundreds of rare photos and artwork along with the postcards the book is named after. This is a definite must have book for fans of the California park.

A must have!
This was the only resource that I used to prepare for my GROL exam, and that was all I needed. I studied for a week and a half and passed with flying colors. This book is also a great reference to keep in your technical library.

Outstanding Study Guide for the GROL!
GROL Plus purports to provide the information needed to study for and pass the examinations for the Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP), the General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL), and the Radar Endorsement for the GROL. Based on my personal experience, it does an outstanding job of meeting this goal!

What is special about GROL Plus is that it not only includes all of the published questions and answers, it also explains why the correct answer is the right one and provides easy ways to remember which answer is correct.

I most strongly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to earn the MROP or GROL. In preparing for the GROL examination, I purchased several books, GROL Plus is the one that did the job and was the only one I needed.

Amazing Book with a huge twist
This book was so well written that it did not hit me until half way through that a man was writing in first person of a teenage girl. The main character is fun loving and going through so much that you hope that everything turns out for her. A shocking twist that you don't want to tell anyone, but demand that they read for themselves.

excellent reading
this is a wonderfully deep and interesting book, that asks a lot of questions about what really matters in life. Laura's search is more about finding out who she really is than finding out who her real parents are. This self-searching renders the book a different read for everyone, as each individual reader fills in the gaps for themselves, in their own way. This is certainly a book I shall return to, and would encourage anybody with a penchant for soul-searching to make their next book.

Extraordinary
The story of an adopted girl seeking her real mother is only the beginning. Stanley Gordon West explores what it means to be adopted, and what families are about, in such vivid, tender, emotionally rich prose that this book simply glows.

Great way to get your ham license!

Complete and Beautiful
The photos in this book jumped out at me and encouraged me to purchase it, yet I was very happily surprised by the thoroughness and readability of the text. I made a road trip down highway 395 this past summer through the Eastern Sierra region and this book proved to be an invaluable resource. It turned me onto many great places to visit off the beaten path. There is excellent history, wildlife and geological info, and descriptions of the towns along the way. The photos are just great, making this both a coffee table book and a great visitors guide. I stopped at the Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine (which I would recommend as a good starting point for anyone exploring the area) and among their large selection of books about the region I found this book to the best single source if choosing just one. You'll be very happy with this purchase.

A Great Eastern Sierra Source of Information
As an employee of a resort in the Eastern Sierra, I've glanced through and read many books about the region. Of all of them, this book is the best written and researched. The book's pictures are good, but the text is the true value of the book. This book has it all, from climate, to wildlife, to various flora of the region, to recreational suggestions for each of the region's popular landmarks. A must have for any fan of the Eastern Sierra or for anyone planning a trip to this fantastic region of California.

The best book to one of California's awesome landscapes.
I bought a copy of this book years ago, and I've traveled extensively through the region it covers. It is one of the most attractive and informative books I own. Of course, the Eastern Sierra is a region of astounding beauty, so author Sue Irwin could hardly go wrong.

Story of a Political as Well as Natural Disaster
To me this review does not do justice to the most compelling aspect of the book, which is how political pressure, and assurances of safety in the face of all evidence to the contrary, by governmental officials and other trusted leaders dissuaded the people of St. Pierre from evacuating the city in time to save their lives. I read this book many years ago and have forgotten some of the details, but this theme -- more popularly explored in "Jaws" and recently in "Isaac's Storm" -- has stayed in my mind. Most readers will never be threatened by a volcanic eruption, but this book is a somewhat grim reminder that our own leaders may be lying about impending natural disasters. Remember Pelee!

Excellent Disaster Book, Fascinating Story
Thomas and Witts tell the story of a week in May, 1902,when the Carrabean city of St. Pierre was obliterated by a volcanic eruption. When I first saw this book, I wondered how anyone could pen over 150 pages on a volcano that wiped a city out in seconds, leaving only two survivors. I thought there would not be much to write about. Boy was I wrong! It turns out that in the week prior to the eruption, St. Pierre was hit by landslides, a tsunami, and even a deadly snake infestation! Several hundred were killed before the great event itself. The final eruption is simply the climatic horror and can almost be seen as a blessing, putting people out of their misery. This book is probably hard to find now, but it is worth getting, and will interest just about everyone from the scientist to the casual reader.

Very detailed... but very simple...
It's a great book. It helped me understand the different types of kids... and how they learn differently... Now I can spot a learning type from across the room... really helped me understand the "wiggly" kid...

Excellent book that can help any teacher!
The Discipline Guide is an excellent source for anyone who is working with children. It can be used for teacher training. The book covers a variety of areas in discipline. The authors incorporate all the aspects of a child's whole person in a concise and understandable way. This book will change your thinking and will forever help in working with children. I really enjoyed reading the book and plan to use it when I train teachers in church. It can be used in a variety of ways, from sunday school to daycare.

Growing Fruit in the Upper Midwest
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Minnesota Pr (Trd) (1991)
Author: Donald Gordon
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $16.95

Indespensible reference for midwestern growers
Home and commercial growers in the Upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas) face major challenges in getting steady crops of quality fruit. Tree fruits, berries, and the like are better adapted to warmer areas. Most commercially available cultivars are not well adapted to the cold climate in and around Minnesota.

In this volume, Gordon combines the history of fruit growing in the area, basics of culture, and hardiness history of major varieties. This last piece of information is not available in any other source I have seen and by itself is worth more than the purchase price of the book to anyone contemplating a new planting of fruit trees, vines, or bushes.

Hardiness information is broken down by regions within each state, providing a more detailed look at the winter survival characteristics than can be gained by USDA hardiness zones alone.

In addition, Gordon provides some interesting historical ancedotes and cultural information. The cultural recommendations are the same as for other parts of the country, by and large, but the information is useful to the beginner.

awesome book
Don covers all the basics of all fruit varieties you can grow in the upper midwest. A book of reference fro anyone interested in growing an orchard in their yard
