Classic Study of Eschatology
Philip Mauro's writings convinced me that the Amillennial interpretation of Scripture is the correct one. Mauro points out the errors in Dispensationalism, as well as opening up the plain meaning of Daniel chapter 9 and Matthew Chapter 24.

One helpful feature of the book is his making available extended passages from Josephus, which show how the destruction of the temple in AD 70 fulfilled a lot of what Jesus said in his Olivet discourse.

I also recommend reading Mauro's The Hope of Israel.

If you want something sane and balanced, put down your Left Behind books, and read this stuff.

Excellent book on the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27.
Mauro is a thinking man who dwells into the text with a passion for accuracy. He shows that the prophecy of Daniel 9 is concerned fully with Christ and has nothing to do with an anti-christ. If read with an open mind you will find that, even though he does not agree with most modern thinkers, Mauro accurately divides the truth of God's word. He clearly shows how the six promises (vs. 24) come to pass by the atonement of Christ. The cross is the main focus in this passage. He clearly shows that it is Christ's death that stops the Jewish sacrificial system (vs 27) and fulfills the prophecy. The book also shows clearly how the time period of the seventy weeks is fulfilled to the day. This is a must read book for anyone interested in Bible prophecy as well as proper hermeneutics.

The best brief book about 19th century US-Indian relations
This book is well written, very informative, and represents the best book about American Indian history in the nineteenth century since Dee Brown's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee". Highly recommended.

Written when some of its users were still in junior high
This book has strong word-of-mouth press, as well as a glowing review from the First Aid book. Its thickness is intimidating, especially for the BRS series, but the pages aren't too dense, so that it can be covered in its entirety in four days or less. Without having compared it to its competitors, I can still say that it does cover just about everything necessary to study pathology. Sometimes the book is a little skimpy on details that, in my own case, were filled in by previous overlapping study through other subjects.

A more substantive complaint is that the book is in dire need of an update: it was published in 1993. For example, the sections on lymphoma classifications and HIV treatment are hopelessly outdated. Along the same lines, the questions at the end of each section and the comprehensive exam at the end don't reflect the current USMLE testing style. For one thing, about 70% of the questions in this book are phrased negatively, as in "all of the following are true, EXCEPT...". For another, many of the questions are quite a bit pickier than my experience with the USMLE step 1 (three days ago).

The book also contains far too few photomicrographs, and those are all black and white, but this can be remedied easily with supplemental materials.

Perfect reviewing tool for the extensive human pathology
Pathology is maybe the longest yet most important subject in medical school. Although not difficult to masterize, it can become a ton of bricks because of its extent. Now that, for USMLE step 1 is really scary.
Well, solution ( or pain attenuation ) comes in the shape of this book. Very well written, with high yield facts, review questions on each chapter and a final review examination, concepts really stick in your mind. Although it looks a bit fat for a review, you won't get nothing thinner and yet as complete. Moreover, it is useful through clinical wards, when you need to get fast facts just before the round..... Definitely, a must have !!!

Pathology learned in a handy way
Pathology is one of the hardest and longest subjects in medical school, and when finally you are on the other side thinking you wouldn't dare to take the course again, USMLE comes...... but fortunately, the Lord has inspired this people to write this excellent book. With key essentials, friendly text, excellent organization, handy review questions and a comprehensive exam, I just wish I had this book during my course of pathology. If you don't want to get admitted in a mental institution when reviewing pathology for the USMLE step 1, well....then what are you waiting for buying this book.

Disappointed
Unfortunately this book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. After 12 weeks of self guided revolting exercises such as eating whilst looking in the mirror, keeping endless food diaries and having role plays with myself I was no more enlightened as to how to solve the problem. The authors solution is to learn to make your "adult"(sensible) voice in your head overule your "child"(the one thats eats to make itself feel better). How you do this other than by sheer willpower and self talk is still a mystery to me. The book will be useful for those who don't understand why they eat compulsively and it will offer you some ways of coping. It will also make you see that you are not alone. My advice would be that if you really have an eating disorder you need to seek professional, human form, help in order to overcome it, this book is no substitute.

Awesome Book and VERY helpful
This book is simply incredible. The fact that it is set up like a seminar/workshop with exercises (as in assignment) is just wonderful. It really allows you to get involved with the book and with overcoming your problem. You don't just learn about your problem - you actually take the physical steps in moving forward. You can change your life and this book definetly helps.

Made me cry
I know that it is hard to believe that a "diet" book made me cry, but it really did!
I've been on the diet roller coast since I was 11 years old. I've been anorexic, bulimic and still suffer from binge eating. I was at my wit's end when I ordered The Hunger Within. I didn't think that a self-help book would give me any new ideas or solutions but I decided I would try it.
I just started reading the book yesterday. It has definitely been a breakthrough as the other reviewer said.
I realized just out of touch I am with myself. It made me finally see a lot of the problems that I have just never wanted to deal with.
You should definitely get this book if you are struggling not just with weight but with coming to terms with issues such as obsession and compulsion.

Entertaining and informative look at odd-balls
Any book that describes Day Crockett as "the strangest man I ever saw. He had the face of a woman, and his manner was that of a girl" is going to capture my attention. That description appears in "Eccentrics" followed by the qualification that, as the Alamo fell, Crockett "looked grand and terrible, shouting at the front door and fighting a whole column of Mexican infantry."

The authors, who may be a bit eccentric themselves, first define eccentricity, then supply multiple examples arranged in such categories as: The Scientists, Eccentric Childhood, and Sexual Eccentricity (the latter being not quite as titillating as it sounds). They also examine the borderline between eccentricity and mental illness (a fine one) as well as some peculiarities, such as arrested speech development, relating it to eccentricity.

An interesting read, the only latent problem in the book is that, after reading it, you may find yourself looking at some of your acquaintances with different eyes (not to mention yourself.) On the other hand, you might use it as a springboard to finding and developing the eccentric parts of your own character.

Rather Inspiring!
I found this book to be fun and rather inspiring. It is grand to read about people who have actually managed to throw off the expectations and limitations of society. I recommend it to anyone who is curious about variations from the standard solutions. Also, I'd like to say that eccentricity offers another take on creativity... one that is structurally different than that provided by the art world. So if you are looking for an alternative foundation for art/writing/invention, you'll find insights between the lines of this book.

Where else would you find a woman with 7,5oo Lawn Gnomes¿¿¿
At last I can begin to understand my weirdness. Now I know that there is a word to describe my pyschological condition: eccentric. But the authors go at lengths to point out that this is much different from a mental illness. In fact, eccentrics are healthier than normal and show less schizophrenic signs. I would go as far as saying that we are extra sane. (Though my personal theory of pyschology is that *everyone is 'insane') It's not negative at all, in fact (pp.19) "Human evolution needs human eccentricity." Eccentrics, besides being nonconforming, are also commonly scientists or artists--and either or neither are very creative. The researchers let us know that true eccentrics are never acting. They are strong individuals with strange inclinations of their own, which they are not afraid to express. With the study of eccentricity we may finally gain a better understanding of all the revolutionary figures in all walks of history from Jesus Christ to Albert Einstein. However, "for all practical purposes, as far as modern medicine is concerned eccentricity does not exist." Dr. David Weeks and Jamie James have take the first scientific approach to the mutations of social evolution. {i.e., eccentrics} Accordingly I give them a full rating of five stars and recommend this book to every human being.
