What a great surprise
I have practiced law in New York City for 23 years and I ordered this book for my secretary to help her with the spelling of legal terms. I took a look at it before giving it to her and was amazed at the quality of this dictionary. Very complex legal ideas are reduced to common sense definitions. The definitions cover virtually all fields of law. This book even has an attitude; I especially enjoy lines like "In the many states where fornication is still a crime, there are a lot of criminals." I wish I'd had this in law school. I bought a second copy for my desk.

A gripping collection of powerful prose. I was moved.
In "Some Sonnets of Flame and Flower," the author manages to touch you with his beautifully expressed sentiment on one page, and then grab you by the throat with his gripping prose on the next. It deeply moved even a jaded cynic like myself - a rare and extraordinary thing.

An Interesting Read
I had to read this book for a broadcasting class and it was a treat. "Ratings Analysis" deals with the behind the scenes business of broadcasting. The authors do a good job of presenting the information in an intellectual manner without putting you to sleep. This is actually one "text book" that I have enjoyed reading. The layout of the book is easy to read and to comprehend. It is divided into three parts and from there, the information is broken down even further. Although the authors have tried to present their case in as easy terms as possible, they never sound unintelligent or underestimate their readers' intelligence. One gets the message and the point without feeling that they are being talked down to. The book includes the latest statistics on audience research and data, which is hard to come by in the ever-changing business of broadcasting. I recommend this book for anyone interested in pursuing this field as a career and for those who are just interested in general.

A pleasant surprise
When I imagine a book that brings together statistics, research methodology, social science and modern history, I imagine an excellent antidote to insomnia. But surprisingly, not only did I stay awake through the entire book, I actually learned a few things.

The authors' history of commercial audience research was tight, offering a multitude of insights into where the ratings business might be headed in the Internet age. And the descriptions of research methodology was just right--enough to understand conceptually, without overdoing it.

Following closely on the heels of chapters about ratings used in programming and advertising, the chapter on ratings and financial analysis added almost no value. But the third section, Understanding Audience Behavior, offered some great discussions of specific measurements without burying the reader in too many details.

Overall, Ratings Analysis is the best book on the topic I've seen--a very thorough exploration of the subject without the passive, scholarly tone of too many textbooks.

marvelous field guide
It's a hardcover, so not the most comfortable field guide to throw in a backpack, but I don't have any other complaints about this book.

Animal profiles are accompanied by excellent color photographs, basic statistics about each animal (distribution, habitat, abundance, etc.), and a shaded map outlining just where each animal's distribution is. Entries for each animal are detailed enough, but don't seem to go on so long that a person would lose interest.

One more gripe: pictures of the animals feet, so that pawprints could be identified easily, would have been a welcome inclusion here. The Simon and Schuster's Guide To Mammals, by Boitani, is an inexpensive book that includes this feature. It might be a helpful second book to get on the topic.

It's an exciting book for young naturalists, too, who will likely get stirred up just by seeing some of the photos (star-nosed mole, northern flying squirrel, big brown bat, etc.).

Essays on conservation, the region, and tips on observation precede the main body of the book. The essays are short and well-written. They should be helpful to anyone who wants to scout out some mammals in the Carolinas, Virginia, or Maryland.

James Webster, The New Grove Haydn
This is a concise, lucid, well written account of Haydn's life and career with a balanced assessment of his works and of his character. It contains a complete list of Haydn's works and a valuable bibliography for further reading and research. It is an excellent introduction to Haydn. Those wanting to learn more about Haydn's life and works will look elsewhere but will want this book for its listing of his works and its bibliography.

This book is very good for the basic concept and understanding of N.C. Estate rules and terms. You may wish to buy an real estate math book as well. If you study this book you should have a thorough understanding of North Carolina Real Estate. Another good book is Modern Real Estate Practice In North Carolina by Fillmore W. Galaty, Wellington J. Allaway, and Robert C. Kyle.

[bad] :(
... the scripts don't work. The downloaded scripts are different to the ones outlined in the book (neither work) and the after sale support is non-existant.

The first book of the series was great... This rarely works and this book is no exception...

leave this book on the shelf = save yourself the frustration
1. too many errors

2. the codes don't work.. and you don't get support from the team that put them together... you will have to be overly nice to even here... "Oh! we will get back to you" from them

3. Full e-commerce app? what is an e-commerce system without a checkout feature? they basically leave out all the meat and expect you to work at the same projects you bought the book for on your own

basically, looks more like a couple of tutorials taken from the internet and thrown together in the form of a book in a hurry to capture the market before a better one does.

LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF!!

Increase Your Flash Application Skills
Flash is becoming much more of an application/interface tool than ever before. This book does a good job of furthering the skills taught in the first book. While the book doesn't follow with a case study pertaining to all chapters, it does give you methods that you can pick and choose from, so that you don't necessarily need to read from beginning to end to get real and usable benefits.

I particulary enjoyed Chatper 5, which shows some very good ways of using MySQL with Flash: getting lists, details, and searching without having to load new pages or go back to previous pages...that's the good thing about Flash interfaces.

The book is a rather big step in difficulty from the first book, but worth it.
