One of The Best Books In The Series
This book is actually one of the best book in the Calvin and Hobbes series. Since tis one praticullar book is not a treasury colection, the comics in this book are basically "new." The comics in this book are really funny and most of them have good points to them. Basically what I'm saing is that this book is great.

A refreshing read...A refresher to all adults...
I haven't heard about this collection until my friend accidentally left hers in my house. Anticipating a lousy cartoon strip compilation, I was pleasantly surprised that it was very interesting & hilarious. As an adult, it gave me an overview of how a child's mind works. I have forgotten how imaginative & creative a child could be & realized how repressive I have been acting towards my daughter, just like Calvin's parents.

We all have been like Calvin in our earlier lives. We had a Hobbes as a best friend, a Susie whom we loved to annoy but loved as well, a transmogrifier & a babysitter who scared the hell out of us. We daydreamed in class, we played 'pretend' & lived life to the fullest.

It is so refreshing to witness such naivity once again. & though adult lives have robbed us of our youthful innocence, Calvin & Hobbes takes us back to those pure, clean fun days in a child's life.

Oh Watterson, my Watterson
It is my feeling that Bill Watterson had enough integrity and ethics to prevent the syndicate from cranking out endless meaninglessly repetitive compilations. Of course, he did quit partly because he was becoming disgusted with many of the commercial aspects of his work. With most comics, even good ones, the collections get stale after a few. Watterson's collections dont. There are a dozen or so C&H compilations/collections, but you wont be dissapointed with owning the whole shebang, especially since Watterson frequently did a lot of extra work to ensure that each collection had something new to offer. Even without this extra stuff, Watterson's body of work is extensive enought to warrant owning all these collections. He was steadily cranking out great material for a decade or so, and if you are like me you will be reading some C&H weekly for as long as you are on this earth, so tons of books is not a bad thing. Basically, I wholeheartedly reccomend all the books. If you like one you will like them all. They only get better as you get to know the characters. Watterson never goes for the cheap laugh by having any of the comic's principals act out of character. As you progress through the years with C&H, and I do reccomend reading them in order, you will see how art progresses and grows when the artist is committed to excellent work. So, go get the first one, titled simply Calvin & Hobbes, and then start down the enjoyable road to making Calvin and his tiger a pleasant little chunk of your life.

This book is excellent! It is hilarious as was all the other Calvin and Hobbes book! I hope that all the readers out there will enjoy it as much as I did!

If you love Calvin and Hobbes...
I loved this book. As always you laugh at Calvin and hissarcastic humor, his plots to mangle Susie in one way or another. Thenthere is Hobbes wh just goes with the flow, occasionally tossing a water balloon or two. For style you just can't find any where else turn to this book.

GREAT
This follows right in line with all other Calvin and Hobbes books. I reccomend that everyone read this. It made me fall off the couch I laughed so hard. GREAT BOOK.

Awsome book
I love Calvin and Hobbes and this is AWSOME. It follows just in line with Calvin and Hobbes books. If you don't know what Calvin and Hobbes is like here it is. It's about a 1st grader with the attitude like a first grader, but the mind of an adult. He has a stuffed tiger who's "real" to him but just a stuffed animal to everyone else. It is one of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes.

On how the lazy sunday book is good and all others also are.
I would rate this one of the best Calvin and Hobbes books ever written because it has all of the best Sunday cartoons. My personal favorite would be the one where Calvin is pretending to be a airplane pilot trying to land before the other air liner.another good one is where calvin comes home from school and sneaks around the back and scares Hobbes so he wouldn't get pounced on. This book also shows a funny cartoon about spaceman spiff in the front. So I would say that is a very good Calvin and hobbes book and another good one is the essential Calvin and Hobbes. but I would say that all Calvin and Hobbes books are the funniest cartoons I have ever read

A Collection of Sunday Calvin and Hobbes Cartoons
I grew up on Calvin and Hobbes, so I'm a little biased when I say they're one of the best--if not *the* best--cartoon ever to be printed. It's such a pity that they're gone, though books like this one will give fans like me an opportunity to make believe that they're not.

"The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book" opens with Calvin's 10-page adventure as Spaceman Spiff, interplanetary explorer extraordinaire, with one mission in mind: to destroy all aliens, which in real life, are disguised as his mother and Susie. Very funny stuff. Yet Calvin's wild imagination doesn't stop there. For the rest of the colorful 100+ pages, he agitates his parents mercilessly, particularly his father; while with his mother, he aversely chokes down every disgusting meal she cooks, making some of the funniest faces while doing so. A lot of times, his expressions say more than any number of words. Take the family meal scene on page 30, where he makes a long-drawn-out attempt at tasting the green pile of gunk on his plate. Then there's a good facial example on page 104, where he's sitting, reading a book; then looks up with this absolutely wicked smile on his face. You can only imagine what he's up to--and it's definitely not safe.

Then come the metamorphosis strips where Calvin pretends to be every imaginable type of creature, from a loudmouthed sparrow to a hungry dinosaur to a human slinky and beyond. And, of course, there's always a worthy battle or two with monsters and bedbugs in, around, and under his bed--all in the faithful company of his favorite toy tiger, Hobbes.

Two of my favorites in this book involve snowmen. Yep, you guessed it: the one where Calvin creates a morbid snowman display on his parent's car--one of them appears to have been hit by the car, while the other three snowmen gawk at the maimed body (p 53). The other is where he makes a dozen or so little snowmen and then devours them all in a dinosaur frenzy (p 101).

No matter how times I've read this book, I can re-read it again and again, and still find something new and amusing about it. Even if you're vaguely familiar with Calvin and Hobbes, I highly recommend purchasing this book. It's a riot.

A must-read!
Bill Waterson is argudably one of the best comic writers out there. Even through his retirement, he has made great books of past comics featuring his Calvin and Hobbes characters. I laugh and laugh at these comics he creates and I sometimes wonder how he comes up with such brilliant ideas sometimes with the storylines of some of the strips.

Calvin, one of his best known characters, is the trouble-making kid in the school. He is funny and imaginative and likes to make funa and games with his "real" pet friend Hobbes. Through the comics, you can see the relationship between a stuffed animal and a human.

In this comic though, Hobbes "comes to life" in Calvins eyes. The things that Calvin can sometimes get involved in is so hilarious and sometimes out of this world.

I guarantee that anyone that loves comics will fall in love with this one and should definitely buy this book to start their collection of classic comics.

All of Bill Waterson's comic books are very well done and very professional. His work is his life and it shows the time and consideration it took to make these characters come to life. Thank you Mr. Waterson for creating such a great comic and thatnk you people for reading my review!

UNEXPECTEDLY DISAPPOINTING
Working on real example projects with SQL Server sounded like a great way to learn the application, so I really anticipated this book to be better than it turned out to be. The projects would be more fruitful if they were easier to follow. For one thing, the instructions never tell you when they're just giving you some background and when you should actually be following along with some "examples". You might be reading about the script to create a database (with them never once telling you to run the script) then you discover, several pages later, that you really needed to run that script in order to continue with what they're talking about. What's also frustrating is its tendency to go into step-by-step detail about some of the most basic things that most people know how to do, yet when it comes to the more expert implementation it just sort of breezes through like you should already be familiar with how this is done. Also, for a book that should do more with hands-on productions, it launches into too many filler pages of background information that we could get elsewhere.

Good book, but does have a few errors.
I tend to agree with others about the examples in the text book. One minute you are reading along about the subject and you never know that you should be actually performing what you were reading. It is not as clear as I have seen in other hands-on books. The book is okay and I am not disappointed that I bought it. I am a novice SQL 7 user and the book has helped me out. As for the errors, I have not been able to find an errata for the book. However, with the errors I have found, I have been able to correct them myself after strong determination.

VERY USEFUL PROJECTS
I used two of the Projects immediately.

As a new user of SQL, my understanding has been greatly enhanced by reviewing the theory and then seeing it applied in a project.

I hope other authors follow the format of this book.

poor translation - not in chronological order - fewer strips
oh well... yes, it's just a german translation. And don't buy it, if you can get the english originals (for those who speak both languages) - it's not worth it at all

This is just an example of poor publishing
- the translation is poor, some lines are just mistranslated, some jokes/lines are missed completely (and don't make any sense anymore). I know that the process of translating comic strip is not an easy one, but here it was done amateurishly
- the german editions are not a 1-1 translation of the originials, they rather made a couple issues out of one original - and they threw the correct order of the strips overboard, that way you need to buy 10 german c&h books to get the aquivalent of 3 of the orginals...

Only buy this book if you speak German!
I also bought this book based on a reader review. I don't know what they were thinking! This is all in German! I'm really dissapointed. Oh well, maybe one of my friends in Germany will enjoy it...

Bad luck for all of you who don't speak German
First I have to say, that it's really not that easy to find out online that this book is in German - luckily I'm German so I understood it. Es ist ziemlich gut, man sollte sich aber doch lieber an die englischen Originalausgaben halten. I liked it as I liked all Calvin and Hobbes, but better buy the "Essential" or the other English reprints - they're much better.
