excellent and practical text on nonlinear regression
Along with Gallant's book on nonlinear regression this book is one of the best. It is on an intermediate level and assumes some knowledge of linear regression. Notable unique aspects of the book are (1) good use of geometry, (2) discussion of derivative free methods, (3) use of profile likelihood and profile t plots and (4) measures of degree of nonlinearity of the problem. The authors also provide many real world applications directly from their consulting experience.

These authors were among the researchers that developed these measures of nonlinearity and so that aspect of the book is original and is emphasized in this book more than in others such as Gallant's.

Great dictionary- no need to invent terms!
This dictionary is complete with contemporary business terms in Spanish with their English equivalent. This dictionary is a handy reference for those who need to know and understand business terms in Spanish as well as keep pace with neologisms that come into the language especially from the technology sector. The vocabulary is very contemporary and includes abbreviations as well that are included in business documents and letters. The middle of dictionary includes a business correspondence section with sample business letters, resumes, email vocabulary and other handy business correspondence references. This dictionary would be most beneficial to those who use Spanish in a professional capacity, advanced learners of Spanish and those who simply want to speak correctly using proper business terms at all times in Spanish. This is a worthwhile investment.

Wish I'd bought it sooner
Spectral Analysis and Its Applications is an excellent source for professionals with intermediate time-series statistics skills. It clearly outlines and demonstrates the methods necessary to carry out sound spectral analysis of time-series data and how to use this data for modelling purposes. It is also a great aid and reference for anyone who needs the means to triumph over inexperience and under-education in time-series debates. Four years out of graduate school, I need this book again; I wish I'd bought it sooner.

How War Came: The Immediate Origins of the Second World War, 1938-1939

Excellent historical study.
"How War Came" covers the period roughly from Europe to the beginning of World War II. Of course, the key actor in this period was Hitler; it was his will, more than any other factor, that caused the war to start.

Of course, no one at the time knew that at the time, and this book accounts the diplomatic efforts made by the Britain, France and others to avoid the War. This provides a useful perspective on the history of the time, which tends to focus exclusively on Hitler. Watt has thoroughly researched this period, and provides information that even those who are well-read in the events leading up to the war will learn much from this book.

Grows in interest as you read
This book tells of the time between Munich and the declaration of war on Sept. 3, 1939. It is very well done, and the final chapters are dramatic and attention-holding. The author is English, and some of his comments on American politics are not very insightful, but I liked the book and found it well woth reading, even if it is 11 years old.
