Background of his life, personal and political motivations
Written after Gingrich's acension as Speaker of the House, this book provided many things, both trivial and significant, that I wanted to know about Newt Gingrich. Where he came from, how we grew up, personal life & influences, and how his political philosophy was formulated and developed over the course of his career. He changed the strategy of the Republican House minority and charted it's course to become the majority party long before it occurred after the elections of 1994. For that he deserves credit for long-term planning and strategy, and his constant drive to achieve his political and societal goals for America--whether love him or hate him--he must be given the serious credit for start, development, and eventual shift. Gingrich was the ultimate Machiavelian politician. The ends justified the means. He threw bombs, toppled Jim Wright and uncovered some of the pompous transgressions of House members. Newt didn't live in a glass however. GOPAC was another siginificant achievement of his. I highly recommend this book. I am aware that there are several Gingrich books available now that are more updated.

Great for students/aficionados of sociology and rhetoric
This book provides much insight for students and aficionados of sociology and rhetorical essays. It is a penetrating entrance into the process of reading and writing; it is a foray into diversity and humanness. In this compilation of essays, Warner, Hilliard and Piro have brilliantly combined, organized and analyzed a diverse selection, which raises the bar to a new standard by which future books will be measured.

The essay authors are appropriate for the study of rhetoric (Bradbury, E.B. White, Dorothy Parker, Gore Vidal, Walker, Tan, et al), and the topics (language, culture, family, communication, lifestyle, immigrants, ritual, prejudices) are well suited to the study of cross-cultural issues and themes.

The organization is multi-dimensional, allowing for a variety of approaches to learning with this book. The "rhetorical table-of-contents" contains the standard groupings, such as narration, description, cause and effect, persuasion, etc., but also includes new categories such as communication and process analysis. The secondary view, however, is what grabbed my attention. There is a "thematic table-of-contents" section which groups the essays in another manner more suited to a sociological view (stereotypes, racism, sexism, places, etc.)

The accompanying activities and exercises are thought provoking, inspirational and rewarding, whether for classroom use, or individual or group assignments.

Overall, a fine book for students of rhetoric, culture and beyond. I highly recommend it.

Another Book About Hillary Another Enigma?
Well, the books on Hillary are coming too fast and furious to read all of them. Yet, better to learn more than less. What I cannot understand is why people just do not leave her alone and let the people decide when she runs for election. Speaking of elections, Hillary should switch from running for the Senate of New York to running for The Presidency of the United States. Why? Because she has a great opportunity to win based on her their power of incumbency. No can manipulate people, votes and power better than these two political gurus. If she loses the Senate race and when he leaves the seat of power, like what is in the book, the choice for Americans will be to not recall the past. She is viable, willing and able to win the Presidency now not in 2004. The book discloses such insight between the lines. She has the right to put forth her agenda and have it accepted or rejected by the voters. Read it, it will not provide you with the greatest of stories but it is interesting.

Well done biography of Clinton
This is a very well written biography of Hillary Rodham Clinton's life from childhood to the aftermath of the Monica scandal. It portrays Clinton as a woman of uncommon intellect and empathy. Warner shows Clinton's dream of a better well-being for America's children, and her personal and not so personal successes and failures. I believe Warner does show the "real" Hillary Clinton.

A thoughtful book about Hillary Clinton's work and life
This book portrays Hillary Clinton as an intelligent, complex, strong, sensitive person. Her identity as a thoughtful, dedicated public servant has been derailed by marital troubles, the harrowing pursuit by partisan bloodhounds, and the fickle opinion of the press and public. This is a book about the stigma that still exists in being a smart, bold woman. It is a sad, frustrating story about misunderstandings, personal foibles, and distortions of Clinton motives and activities created by politics and the media. A believable portrait of Hillary Clinton as a lively, spirited individual who cast her fate with a man whose ideals she shares, suffering pain and doubt that the public and press presume to be privy to but don't understand. We see her expend her incredible energy and talents in public service, only to have her intentions twisted. The book details a great body of work she's done in the areas of family and child advocacy, which endears her as a truly dedicated public servant. I want my daughter to read this book and to learn to persevere, as I cheer Hillary Clinton on to do.
