Revenge of the Bubbas
The year is 2025 and a Government Plage is let loose that kills Yuppies, well some turn into human flesh eating Zombies. They continue their lives driving their BMW's and of course having Yuppie dinner parties. They are now called Yombies.

The Bubbas aren't infected and it's because of their preference for pork rinds, twinkies, spam, cheap Bar-b-Q sauce with meat cooked outdoors and of course cheap beer. No fancy foreign beer or cheese for these guys and gals just the real stuff.

Hillarious moments and some that are just downright funny if y'all have any bubba bones in your body. A few that have a higher gross factor.

To have taken on the task of outlining the basics of the story and then hand it out to various author to put their own twisted Bubba minds to work. Selina Rosen should be give a big hand, Yombie of course.

Better Buy More Barbeque
You cannot read this book without laughing. The world has come to an end, and the only folks left to look after it are not necessarily the folks who care. Meet Bubbas with an itch to plug aliens. Zombies with a taste for human flesh. A wild and crazy riot of a time.
Definately a cult classic of a collection.

The End of the World as They-all Know It
Actually, there should be a four and a half star rating available. The poem didn't work for me and one or two stories just missed being gems. The reader needs to be warned that the humor in this book is not tea-sippin'-dainty-pinky-in-the-air smile but gut laughs about bodily functions and outrageous points of view. The basic premise of the collection is that a plague virus, Yuppie 25, has killed or made zombies of everyone except Bubbas (who were immune because of their frequent ingestion of a generic barbeque sauce). More fun than an SUV full of yuppie zombies.

Mythologies of Violence in Postmodern Media (Contemporary Film and Television Series)

A fascinating and reasoned critique of media violence
Contemporary media criticism, according to Gregory Sharrett removes itself from an analysis of society's activities and focuses only on lived experience as text or discourse. It seems as if criticism is concerned with the sole purpose of demonstrating the degree to which media violence alone is responsible for producing violent social behavior neglecting arguments related to political economy, sociology or history.
The apolitical nature of violence in contemporary film supports the idea that visual violence is an end in itself and that it is being exploited. However, modern Western society itself has become more fragmented and is characterized by flagrant individualism. Ultimately, most contemporary film violence does little more than to reflect current values. It fails to offer alternatives in the same way as the Western political spectrum has become essentially monolithic. In a way, modern violent cinema reflects Francis Fukuyama's famous remark - and title of his bestseller - ' the end of history', that was intended to illustrate that the collapse of Communism in the early 90's left society with only one model, the Western capitalist one, for success. Ideologies, alternative constructs are bound for failure.

THE BUFFY UNIVERSE IN A GREAT BOOK!
This is the best Buffy book ever! Personally, I haven't seen the entire first and second seasons, so this book was great for me. After I read it I felt like I had really seen all the episodes. The book is divided into different sections:
The mythology of Buffy:Basically it gets you started on what being the Slayer really means using extracts of dialogues from the original episodes.
Sunnydale Guidebook: It includes a review of all the places to go in Sunnydale presented like a real advise.
Character Guide: The acting start of all the actors, and the development of their characters. The lines from each one are hilarious!
Episode Guide: A short review of each episode + a great quote + Love, Slayer style:How the relationships are in that episode + Buffy's bag of tricks: her weapons every time + Pop-culture IQ: references made to the pop culture + the continuity with the other episodes + excerpts from the original script.
Monster guide: A guide with the most important monsters, vampires and witches that have appeared in the show.
Bloodlust: Every relationship that has ever taken place, with great tidbits of dialogue between the lovers.
Behind the scenes: Lots of goodies from behind the scenes of Buffy, as well as interviews with the whole cast, producer, make-up artist, etc., etc., etc. Basically every person involved in the making of the show.
Music: A complete list with the most important songs played in each episode.
This book is one of the most complete I have ever read, and I have nothing but compliments for it. Golden and Holder did a wonderful job together like always, and I recommend this book to every Buffy-watcher, wheter it's die-hard or not. The book is great, and it includes everything you could possibly want to know, so I say, go for it!

THE Buffy book - even for Aussies like me!
Ok, where do I start?? The Watcher's Guide for BtVS is the most informative book on any show, let alone Buffy. With all the quotes you'll ever need and the little things that you might have missed - though if you're like me, you watch the eps over and over anyway!!

There are the helpful explanations on the quotes that involve movies or TV, and help you to see what everyone was laughing about - especially good for Aussies who sometimes dont have a clue about the American terms and stuff (like me!)

There are full colour pics, as well as black and white pictures. And if you missed a few eps, there is a full episode guide of seasons 1 and 2. From the eps you did miss, you might also have missed some vital info about a character - well, never fear! Detailed character info and backgrounds are also found in this book!!

I know this is an over-used phrase but it is sooo true in this case - If you buy ONE book this year and you're a Buffy fan, this is the book you should buy!! Save up if you have to, but do whatever you can to get a hold of it before The Watcher's Guide pt 2 (for seasons 3 and 4) comes out in November 2000!! Whether you're an Australian, an American, English, from New Zealand, or ZIMBABWE! It doesn't matter! Get your hands on this book!!

An Indispensable Reference Work for the True Buffy Fan
This is more than "The Official Companion to the Hit Show," this is the best volume covering the first two seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder do a first-rate job. The episode guide has not only plot summaries but also include quotes, pop-culture references, continuity points, and sometimes dialogue that was cut. There are also 100 pages of interviews with Joss Whedon, the cast and crew. The second volume is coming out on Halloween and it is my top choice for this year's treat. I do not want to wait for Christmas for that one. You cannot be a Buffy the Vampire Slayer devotee and not own these volumes.

High Speed Cmos Design Styles
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (1998)
Authors: Kerry Bernstein, Keith M. Carrig, Christopher M. Durham, Patrick R. Hansen, David Hogenmiller, Edward J. Nowak, and Norman J. Rohrer
Amazon base price: $153.00
Average review score:

Good Pragmatic Approach , good to have on shelf as referance
The book is very nicely written and has lots of practical tips, rule of thumbs which a practicing high speed CMOS circuit design engineer needs. Its conscise and works as good referance.

An excellent reference on cell-based circuit topologies.
The IBM authors wrote a concise reference manual on circuit
design, process variation effects on circuits, and time borrowing. What is missing? Sections on sequential circuit design, transistor sizing techniques, or modeling circuits through mathematics, spice and verilog. However, this is among the most lucid texts written on circuit structures to date.

Simply Great.
It's concise but deals the topics in depth. It's much better and practical than usual vlsi text books.

Ayrton Senna: The Hard Edge of Genius
Published in Hardcover by Patrick Stephens (1990)
Authors: Christopher Hilton and Keith Sutton
Amazon base price: $27.95
Collectible price: $54.00

A simpathic biography of a great champion
Well, what can I say about "Ayrton Senna : The Hard Edge of Genius"? The book itself is not atractive, but is nice. Has very good pictures about the carrer of Ayrton Senna and good appointments of the author. But, in the really, it is just a big almanac. Hilton can't express the spirit of Senna. Just explains some moments of important races, like Suzuka-88. But, reading the book, we don't know that Senna 'saw God at the last curve' - his own words. So, if you are a fan of Senna, buy the book to remember the big champ.

A critical, sympathetic portrait of a complicated champion
With Chris Hilton's characteristic meld of insight and panache, "The Hard Edge of Genius" captures the many aspects of a man born with supreme gifts to bend a car to his will and deftly explores the many conflicting emotions Senna stirred in himself and the millions who followed his extraordinary F1 career. Updated to cover the fateful end at Tamburello, Hilton's work spares neither criticism nor compliment, achieving a balance of the two that mirror's Senna's uncanny ability to hold his machine on the edge of adhesion. Senna himself called it "a book you can rely on." Rare praise from a man who relied on little outside of his own skills.

Wonderful book about the greatest driver of modern F-1!
Mr. Hilton wrote an extraordinary book, going deep inside Senna's personality and exploits, his sheer determination and velocity, whitout being an one-sided writer that only sees Senna's qualitites. Great job about a career interrupted prematurely!

Manual of Common Bedside Surgical Procedures

A Must for Surgical, IM, and EM Residents!
For a book that conspicuously describes itself as a "pocket sized manual", the Manual of Common Bedside Surgical Procedures is curiously large. Measuring 6 inches in width from spiral binding to cover edge, the manual is the exact same dimensions as the pockets of 3 of my lab coats (all by different manufacturers). Thus, it is impossible to put this book in the pocket of a size 38 lab coat. Nonetheless, it is the only major complaint this reviewer has about this book.

Written by the Halsted Residents at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the book covers most of the common bedside procedures any surgical, IM or ER resident may encounter. Many handbooks cover a few of these topics (ie, nasogastric intubation, urinary catheterization, sutures, etc.) but not nearly in depth as does Chen's work. From Airway Management, through vascular access procedures, lumbar punctures, splinting to needle biopsies and joint injections the book covers everything well. Each procedure includes:

-indications for the procedure -contraindications -anesthesia needed (if any) -equipment ( I LOVE having a "shopping list" handy when I'm doing procedures) -patient positioning -step by step technique instructions -complications and management after the procedure

Several of the procedures also have graphics to aid in the positioning of the device, incision site,or relevant anatomy.

The book does provide a cautionary warning in the Preface that experience and knowledge cannot be replaced by simply following directions in a book. Despite this statement, I was suprised that some of more highly specialized procedures did not contain enough information about the difficulty or the suitability for a house officer. For example, when the vermillion border of the lip is disrupted, a 1 mm error in matching up the edges is visible to the naked eye. Because of this and the potential for scarring on the face, most surgical residents I know prefer to leave such procedures to Plastic Surgeons and/or their residents. It would perhaps be prudent for some of the more specialized and/or potentially troublesome procedures to include mention of the pitfalls and the possible need for consultation.

All in all, the book is a valuable resource for the fresh resident and I would recommend it to anyone doing a surgical, medicine, or emergency medicine residency as an asset to their book collection.

Teacher's favorite
As a first year broadcast teacher, I found this book to be very helpful. It was user-friendly, not too technical for my students but loaded with information that they needed to make their classroom videos. Each chapter taught new skills and allowed the students to practice with the provided activities. My state does not have an adopted text-book for this class, and this book has been a life-saver for me.

Hello Publishers - are you out there?
Okay, so how can Christopher Radko do anything wrong?? Well, he probably can't - but his publishers sure can. You may ask, what good is a picture full of detail that is only 2" by 1.5"?? PUHLEASE make those pictures bigger - the magnifying glass works, but not as well as a bigger picture.

And the text....goes on....and on....and on.....with very humdrum items. How to pick a Christmas tree, how to light it. This information has been included in every Christmas book through the ages. We don't need to have it over and over again. Take away some of those words and put in more OR JUST BIGGER PICTURES!!

This guy is special - make him a special book!!

A "useful" book from Christopher...
I'm a huge Christopher Radko ornament fan and collector ... His past books are just basically about ornaments only and I thought it was great to see this book about decorating and ~how~ to use his ornaments (among others) and, along with more elaborate decorating ideas it also includes the "basics" of Christmas decorating - such as how many lights to put on a tree, etc ... If you're not a CR fan, you may not appreciate the book as much however.

Christopher Radko's Heart of Christmas
Beautiful photography of Christmas displays from country home settings to mansions. Not just for the Radko ornament collector, Heart of Christmas provides all lovers of Christmas with a wealth if information about traditions of the holiday.

The English Room

Great cover, but lacking inside
As a designer specializing in Anglo-American country, and as a long-time fan of Ms. Irving's husband, Keith Irvine's, work, I was disappointed in both the text--while well written it serves more as a history lesson I had in Grad. school about English style--and the color photos, which many have been re-hashed photos from Mr. Simon-Sikes out-dated drawer of negatives. The places explored and photographed are a narrow representation. More should and could have been done. The spectacular cover shot of the library, I wrongly assumed, was a hint of the special interiors inside. However, inside is a mixture of some good but mainly mediocre design ideas, albeit all English, with differeing interpretations. A better book overall is Colefax and Fowler's, which acts as a "bible" of the English Room design, much like I had hoped this book by Chippy Irvine might have been.

Truley English
This is a good book, and you will like it if you favor English style. Some pictures are average, but I liked it. Very cool pictures of bathrooms though!

Wonderful journey into the English Home
Fantastic photos of rooms that will make you want to light a fire, make a pot of tea, and settle into a warm and cozy space.

Highly recommended for those who want the look and feel of a truly English room.
