i bought this cookbook in junior high and i have loved it since. evelyn raab wrote the recipes in a way so that they weren't intimidating for a beginning cook. in fact it's much like receiving advice on cooking from a trusted friend. she wants you to succeed and writes in a way that makes you feel like you really can. it helped me get started with my cooking and four years later i'm still using it regularly. i highly recommend this book whether you're just starting or you've already amassed a large collection of cookbooks. no collection would be truly complete without this one.

As a young adult librarian, and an amature cook, I have nothing but good things to say about this cookbook. I found it to be well designed, fun to read, and highly informative, but never intimidating. I've been pushing it every chance I get, and plan to buy a copy for my teenage brother...plus as a graduation gift for my cousins. The illustrations are wacky, but not childish. My favorite detail is the collection of icons used to show what catagories recipes fall into. This book is the perfect combination of entertainment and useful information!

Are you looking for a cookbook that doesn't include things like "Old Fahioned Hand Dried Pressed o"regano on a Steam Baked Fowl". It's time for us all to enjoy everything from "Idiot-proof Chocolate Cake" to "Curry Glazed Chicken" to "Apple Crisp". This book is incredibly simple to use. It does not throw you into the wildly complicated world of cooking. It helps you with the basics. It is well organized, and has good tips for beginners. It even tells you how to shop and do common kitchen appliance matienence. Organization is helpful in this book made for the beginning chef. It is divided into sections, each informative and humorous. Indexes and lists of tips and facts only add to the appeal of this book.This book's recipes are simple and easy to make. However, this does not mean the recipes are plain or do not turn out well. You will get countless complements on this food when taken to potlucks. Enjoy Clueless in the Kitchen, it is an excellent buy that will teach you how to cook. Will only political junkies or long-ago residents of Florida (I plead partly guilty of the first and fully guilty of the second), appreciate this book? I think not, but it does help to have given up excessive idealism ("Politics is so corrupt!") and excessive cynicism ("People are so corrupt!") in favor of an occasional visit to realism.

With the media giving us mainly--and often only--sensation, and seeing law as a struggle by imperfect human beings to create some justice in the world, I liked best the stories told by the attorneys for both sides.

Overtime is a great look back it this election. For me, it was interesting to go back and put the whole campaign/election in perspective from start to finish. It's also nice to read a book like this that seems to be written from a non-partisan viewpoint. Sabato presents both sides of all the issues and is equally critical of both campaigns. In about 12 years when my son is taking his high school civics class and needs a topic for a book report or paper - I will dust off this book and hand it to him. On a side note, I recently saw Mr. Sabato speak at a conference I attended. If you ever get the chance, go see him! He is very informative and quite humorous.

This book was incredibly helpful to me as a delved into the vegetarian lifestyle. It does a great job of helping the less-informed understand ingredients that they hadn't encountered prior to experimenting with veggie cooking. (tempeh? what's tempeh?) Many of the recipes are easily converted to vegan and my carnivorous boyfriend even likes some of them. Most of the recipes are also quick and quickly become staples. The Spicy Black Bean Dip is now a common request at all of my parties.

Until I acquired THE CLUELESS VEGETARIAN, I had no luck at all with vegetarian cookbooks. The food combinations were often odd, the prep work was time-consuming, and worst of all, the finished products just didn't taste all that good. I'd spend hours kneading and chopping, only to have my husband and kids turn up their noses when dinner was served. But wow, this cookbook is different. The recipes are refreshingly "normal"-- lasagna, shepherd's pie, spinach pie, crepes, quiches, pancakes, muffins, and moussaka, to name a few. There are some unusual ethnic entries for those with adventurous palates, but plenty of delicious, easy-to-follow recipes for those with more standard American tastes. There's also some helpful info on easing into the vegetarian lifestyle and feeding a "mixed" family, all rendered in light, witty prose (that's another thing about most other vegetarian cookbooks...they're so deadly dull and serious). Best of all, the results are awesome and leave my family asking for more. I'm rooting for a sequel!

This book reproduces the original travel book created by David Roberts in the early 1800s. Though not as large as the original book, the reproductions are quite large and beautifully done. David Robert's lithographs are magical.

Roberts portrayal of the holy land as it appeared thousands of years ago brings to life what once could only be described by the words of the bible. A visit to the mid-east would not be complete without first studying Robert's book. One's perspective as they visit the holy land would then blend today's rituals with that of the past.

Having read the introduction, I understand (finally!) what happened in last years election.

The collection of key cases found here is superlative.

I highly reccomend this examination of election 2001 to any reader interested in an organized clarification of the events last fall.

I think Dave Valdez, President Bush's Official White House photographer, did an outstanding job depicting President Bush, the statesman, the family man, and the friend, beautifully in his book of pictures and very few words. Dave Valdez captures it all: from vital moments in world affairs, to lighter family times--all the while gaining an insight into George Bush, our 41st President. A wonderful coffee table book and gift book.

This is a must have book for any student cosidering a college in Canada! Not only will you find maps, local eateries, pubs, stores, but they will rate all the colleges, price dorms, rate college life, etc. This is very helpful when narrowing down your choices!

For anyone out there who is Sicilian/American, this is a great cook book. The author's stories are great. Brings back memories about what your grandpa might have said. I'm going to make the "Ricotta Pie" (recipe in book) for the holidays this year to keep up the tradition of our wonderful heritage. I enjoyed reading through this cookbook as much as I enjoyed the recipes in it.

The recipes comprising Sicilian Gentleman's Cookbook were gleaned from the author's Sicilian background and provide over 150 dishes from pasta dishes combining meats and vegetables with stews, sauces, and soups. All come embellished not with color photos, but with the author's insights into Sicilian culture and culinary styles.

Back in print--at last--is "The Sicilian Gentleman's Cookbook," which Don Baratta originally self-published back in the 1980s. It's a very personal effort, an hommage to his late father, who was born in the little town of Mussomeli in central Sicily and who came to the U.S. in 1905. The elder Baratta was a man of strong opinions; for example, he didn't consider many mainland Italians to be Italians at all or, as he put it, "anything north of Palermo is Swiss." The younger Baratta minces no words either, and often in this book he and his father combine delightfully: "Cauliflower is a much-hated vegetable in this country [the U.S.], yet it need not be so. It is usually boiled and accompanied by small groans. A non-Italian guest once watched with interest the respect my father paid this detested food. Her curiosity broke down her ancient reservations, and she tried a piece. The result was near-disbelief in the lively flavor. The Old Man flatly pointed out (indifferent to the insult he offered the poor girl's family), 'If it had been prepared correctly, you would have always liked it!' So much for polite chatter. He remained unrepentant all his life."

There's much more of the same in these pages, and plenty of recipes--many of them unusual and delightful (Sicilian cooking is ine of the richest and most varied cuisines in the Mediterranean basin). The pages are large, the type is clear, and there's only one recipe to a page. So whether you try the cauliflower recipes--or the cardoons or the meat and seafood dishes--you're in for a treat. Still, the best part of this book is the salty talk of two Sicilian gentlemen--the one who wrote it and the one who inspired it.

Yes, it is very easy to poke fun at our president, no matter who that may be, but President Bush sure makes it simple. In this diary-style book, the president's innermost thoughts are scribbled out in 3rd-grade penmanship.

The book is outright hilarious. We get an in-depth look at the president's IRS audit list, his thoughts on making a movie about his "poppy," his feelings about Dick Cheney, and his outright fear of Hillary Clinton. The mental notes are also hilarious, and the added illustrations make for a complete funny experience.

This book was a really fast read, and it was extremely humorous. It is definately for anyone with a mere pulse of a sense of humor.

I spotted this highly satirical masterpiece on accident, and loved every page of it. I tried reading it to curb bordem, and kept laughing out loud so much that everyone one had to know what was so funny. All of my freinds, right and left alike, thought it was utterly hilarious. I have lent it out to everyone; My Goverment teacher read it aloud to the class; it even had a bit of a waiting list from time to time.

The scariest element- it is all too true! The book is filled with mispellings, childish handwriting, and mis-informations that sound as if they came from the mind of a 3 year old. Therefore perfectly accurate for the 42nd, er, 43rd President of the United States. ("I wonder if Trent Lott is related to that guy in the Bible whose wife turned to salt?"). Bravo, and encore!

This book is a hilarious spoof on our president's first 3 months in office. I can just picture this as a SNL skit. It's great airplane reading - funny and quick.
