I found a copy of this book at my local library and my son fell in love with it after reading it only once. There is a pronunciation guide in the front, so the parent can be assured they are pronouncing everything correctly. My son has been talking about "Borreguita" non-stop and this is a book that I'm for sure going to add to his collection.

What fun I had reading this book out loud to my daycare kids and watching them giggle and howl each time the borreguita tricked the coyote.

This book is a classic to read aloud and share with all kids.

This is a delightful Mexican Tale that my children and I continue to enjoy. The glossary in the front of the book adds to the delight of the story by helping the parent read with a wonderful Spanish accent. We have read this book more than any other book we have at home. I highly recommend it.

Awww this book was good. I work as a student aide in my school library and the pictures caught my eye so I read it. Good pictures funny story.

I first read this book when I was 6, and fell in love with the story and beautiful pictures. I never tired of reading it and missed it terribly when it was lost during a move. Now I am buying one for my daughter, who is 6, and hopes she likes it as much as I did.

Who's in Rabbit's House kept my 4 year old on the edge of his seat. When read with different voices for each character it is even more fun. The end was a suprise and gave us all have a good laugh.

Both of my children, ages 2 and 5, love this book. The two-year-old, normally wiggling and wandering around the room during story time, stays put for this one. They can't wait to see what tricks Anansi and Aso will be up to next!

This book was such a delight. My first grade class could not wait to hear what Anansi would do next. For the first time, Anansi uses his trickery to help someone other than himself! It was refreshing to have the author show how Anani's wife, Aso, helped him to reach his goal. I think my readers learned a lot of valuable lessons from this story.

The Anansi series are a great read. As usual the author keeps us in suspense as to who and how Anansi will trick. My first grade class loved it. They were at the edge of their seats. I can't wait to read more to them.

I have began a tradition of reading this book to each of my childrens kindergarten class. I kind of sing it at certain times and ask the children to help me. My three year old likes to sit and read it her way and it always includes the sing song of "I am the Vingananee, I am so hungery, Give me your stew-oo or I will eat you." This is a book I am so glad I found at our local library and I am planning to add this to my library at home.

The Vingananee and the Tree Toad was such a favorite of my son's that I ended up memorizing it. It is a story I still tell to children of all ages. I hope it will be republished soon! Now it is time to pass it on to the next generation!

The Vingananee and the Tree Toad is one of my favorite children's books to read because it lends itself to so much expression in the telling of the story. The kids love it because I can get them involved in reading it. I don't just read it to them, we act the whole story out. It is so much fun. They just love to play the part of the mean Vingananee or singing like the Tree Toad. The other thing I like about this story is that it has a great moral lesson in it. While all of the other animals rely on themselves to battle the Vingananee, the tree toad prays for help because he recognizes his own weaknesses. This is truly a great children's book---fun to read and has a moral to it also. We check this book out of the library (where we found this gem) on a regular basis and would love to own it but it is not currently being published. Hopefully, it will be back in publication soon.

This book is laugh-out-loud-hilarious. The first time I read this story, I was giggling so hard that I could barely speak. A very cute story for young and old alike.

This rhythmic story to keeps cleverness of monkeys while "love conquers all". King Gorilla discovers a keg of vinegar water. He challenges anyone who can drink this new kind of water..can marry King Gorilla's beautiful daughter. (Catchy) All fail but the clever monkey(s). In the end she only marries for love.
A must-do story for you teller of tales!

This book is a wonderful way to get young readers interested in biographies. Most literature of this sort is too long for young children to appreciate, but this one is short and simple with wonderful illustrations. It is also a great way to teach children to write from what they know; therefore it is very useful in the elementary classroom.

This book is so wonderful for children. It is a book that I remember being read as a young child, and to this day it remains a favorite. It is a great children's book, but it is more original than many other children's books that are out now. Unfortunately this book is out of print, but I would recommend looking for it. It is the an Ashanti tale retold, and both the story and the pictures can be enjoyed no matter what your age.

I am a first and second grade teacher and I just happened to show the video of this book during a unit on Africa. What a fun story! The main character is a kind, generous person who feels he has been treated badly by the people of his village. The text is predictable so the children sort of know what's coming and they love it! They particularly enjoy the large, fat lady of the new village who wants to eat Koi. All of Koi's kindness and generosity are repaid during the course of the story and the children become very involved in his plight. I would recommend this book for teaching story elements and characterization. It is also a very good story to use when teaching story mapping. I plan to use it often!

I was given a copy of Misoso for my birthday. It was a gift from one of my best sister-friends when she found that I was to become an aunt.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my niece, who is now 5 years old. pssssst(I also keep a copy in my office)This book is entirely appealing. The stories will transport one to a different time and place. The pictures are simply gorgeous ...the size of the pages are perfect for reading to groups of children, the vibrant colors, the rhythmic language...If only the prints in the book were commercially available....

It has replaced Make Way for Duckling and Where the Wild Things Are as my favorite children's books. If things couldn't get any better, this book is a compilation of SEVERAL stories.

The lessons learned in this book are universal; hence, children of all ethnicities will appreciate them. This book DEMANDS to be read out loud; luckily, Ms. Aardema's flare for words can make a lyrical storyteller out of anyone.

I really love the book "Bringing The Rain to Kapiti Plain," by Verna Aardema. I have enjoyed it so much that I am planning to give it as a gift to my sister who has two young children, ages 4 and 7. This is a simple story about a cattle herdsman and his wish for rain on the African plain. The narrative structure of the story is based on a sequence of events that builds suspense and interest in children until the end of the story. This is a memorable story; it is very simple to understand and has a powerful musical quality that, as a young adult, I enjoy reading aloud. The rhymes and rhythms are so strong that all young children will be wide eyed with suspense and interest until the very end of the story. I particularly enjoyed one line where the author rhymes "fat" and "Ki-pat": "So the grass grew green/ And the cattle fat!/ And Ki-pat got a wife/ And a little Ki-pat-." This story is suitable for young children because its tone is happy. It deals with the relationship of humans with water, plants and animals. Scientifically, it is unconceivable, but 4- to 8-year-old children do not have to understand the facts of science. From this book, however, they will learn about the connection between humans and nature by enjoying the colored pictures. The pictures are so vibrant that it is easy to imagine the world of Ki-pat. As an adult, I enjoy this book because it describes the cycle of life in a very interesting way. Readers of all ages will see that human life is totally dependent upon nature, and the existence of human beings without nature is nearly impossible. Readers will also learn how the lives of humans and animals are dependent on rain; people and animals need each other and every part of nature for their perfect existence. I highly recommend Verna Aardema's "Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain" to anyone who has young children and is looking for a book that illustrates the relationship between nature and human beings. The colorful, detailed pictures will keep the children interested while they are learning about the connection between nature and human beings.

have anything to eat or to drink. The cows were sick and then a bird drops a feather and then it brought rain to kapiti plain. I liked the story because it was a good book and i understood it! I would reccomend it to anyone who likes indian tales

The PBS show "Reading Rainbow" featured this book; James Earl Jones read it; I fell in love with it and have been giving it as a gift to friends ever since. The gentle story unfolds line by line, with a tender rhythm that entrances: "These are the cows, all hungry and dry, Who mooed for the rain to fall from the sky..." Ultimately Ki-pat, who's watching his herd, brings rain to Kapiti Plain by launching an arrow into the sky. But the charm is in the telling. My 11-year-old still obliges me and lets me read it to him every once in a while.
