Wonderful and engaging
This is a wonderful book for children of all ages. Ours love to hear it over and over -- and we tickle them when grandpa does the tickling. Now they want to hear this book, because they know what's coming up -- tickles for them, too ! The story is engaging, and the illustrations are just wonderful. Our children identify with those being told the stories -- and can't wait for their tickle time ! A great choice for getting involved in a loveable way with almost any age child ! And what a gift for the holidays -- because it builds in your own love !

My Own Touch the Sky Summers
Jean Van Leeuwen's story of summer vacations at the typical Northern lake brought back many of my own childhood memories as I read it to my two boys, Pieter and Lucas. Even the names of the two brothers in the story are so close to home! I grew up in west Michigan and spent many Summer vacations with my parents and siblings, 5 sisters and 1 brother, at cottages on a Big Star Lake in northern Michigan. The sounds and smells and sights described in the book flooded my mind with pockets of fond memories of our family weeks in the woods. We also had our raft to swim to, about 30 yards out from shore. And as we grew and our swimming proficiancies increased, we were allowed to swim out with each other and, of course, our Dad, who taught us to dive properly. I found the book to ring true for many a families' vacations throughout the country. I know the text and the beautiful illustrations by Dan Andreason will be enjoyed by anyone who picks up this book and is swept away by its pages.

Thoughts on Bound for Oregon
This book seemed real and it was based on a true story. It tells about a girl's life traveling on the Oregon Trail, the good parts and the bad parts.

My favorite parts are when Mary Ellen (the main character)'s little sister, Cynthia, talks in her funny way.

Another favorite part was when they got to Oregon and they wanted all their relatives to know that they made it, and they sent letters to their grandmother asking her to tell all their other friends and relatives.

5+
This book ought to get 100 stars. It is a great and realistic account of the trip from Arkansas to Oregon that Mary Ellen Todd's family took. It tells a vivid and seemingly true tale about the six month journey, the life Mary Ellen and her family found in Oregon, and Mary Ellen's reluctance to part with her hometown and reletives--most of all, her grandmother. You can meet Mary Ellen, her parents, her sisters, and her brother, as well as John, the Grants, and other travellers that they encounter along the way. While reading this, I was carried of in a time machiene to join in the trip. I hope that nobody will ever write an accusing review for such a wonderful book.

We think it's great!
This is a good book. It is about a girl from Arkansas moving to Oregon. It shows you what it might have been like traveling the Oregon Trail by a canvas covered wagon. There was a lot of excitement and drama in this book. Will the Todd family make it to Oregon????? And if they do, will they get good land? Is it worth it?Buy it, read it,and find out... At the beginning of this book Hannah's house is burned down and now she is living in a small shed. The shed is their only shelter. The Revolutionary War has started and Ben (Hannah's brother) is in it! Many of the soldiers have frostbite.
When Ben comes home the family is very happy, but Ben is very ill.

Going West

The book has not been well researched.
The story is nicely told and the illustrations are beautifully done, but there are details that concern me from a historical point-of-view. Where do they find logs big enough for the walls of a cabin on the prairie? Instead the author should have had them build a sod house. Also, there would not be room to ride in the wagon or to sleep in it. It would be too crammed with goods and food. Usually the children, except for very little ones, walked. The family slept outside. These were very narrow and cramped wagons.

Going West
I like this book Going West.

This book had the text adapted from Little House on the Prairie.

The family were Charles Ingalls the dad, her mom, Laura, Lauras sister Mary, Her baby sister Carrie & their good old bulldog named Jack.

So one long winter evening Pa tells Ma that he would take the family to live in the west. In the west there were not as many people, no trees, and the grass always grew thick and high.
So Pa sells the little house in the big woods and he sells the cow and calf too.
So the family has a long journey ahead of them.
So at the end of the book they find their way to another little house, a little house on the Western prairie.

This is a great book and I love it.

I hope everybody enjoys it.

This makes me think of being a cowboy on the west and have a western prairie in Calgary, Alberta.

Excellent for young children and their LH-fan moms!
This beautifully illustrated book nicely sums up "Little House in the Big Woods." The drawings are faithful in spirit to Garth Williams' originals, as the text is to Wilder's writing. For example, one page reads something like, one winter's night Pa told Ma he was taking the family out west. Definitely not PC for a husband to tell a wife what to do, but that's what Wilder wrote and that's what the author summarizes.

My daughter is two and I thought I would have to wait many years to share the Little House series with her. I'm glad to have this book to help us bide our time! She loves it, and this is one book I will happily read over and over to her.

A great book to read!
The book I read was called Hannah of Fairfield by Jean Van Leeuwen. This book takes place in Fairfield, Connecticut during the war of Independence. Hannah's brother Ben wants to join the army but his father says "no" at first . Then they see the British march forward and the people in Fairfield think they are coming there. They walk right past them to Danbury and burn down the town. That is when Ben's father decides to let Ben join the army . Hannah and her mother and her sister have to sew all of Bens clothes in two days. They finish and Ben leaves to join General Washington's army.

I recommend this book for people that like old time books. My favorite part is when Hannah is sewing Ben's clothes. She stitches an "H" in the collar of his shirt. She was hoping one day he would find the "H" and remember her.

This was a sweet story.
This was a sweet story about a little girl, Hannah, who is almost nine years old, and lives with her family on a farm in Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1777. Hannah hates chores like sewing, knitting, and spinning. She'd rather take care of the baby lambs. She gets her chance when she saves the life of a baby lamb she names Smoke. And when her brother, Ben, goes off to fight for freedom in the war, Hannah does her part helping to get him ready. I enjoyed this book.

Excellent for early stage readers
I bought this for my 6 year old a while ago to assist her in learning how to read. She really enjoyed reading this book though she had some difficulties with the contents. She keep reading this book as well other in the series of Amanda Pig.

If you plan to buy this book, keep in mind that this is a chapter book which might be difficult for stage1 of reading. As the time goes on, your early reader will identify this book in library as well at school.

Amanda Pig on Her Own.
This is another wonderful Amanda Pig book. The stories are about everyday things in the life of a preschool pig. My preschool daughter loves all things Amanda Pig- and so I read the books over and over- and I still like them! The Amanda and Oliver Pig books would be enjoyed by both Pre- and New Readers.

Just what you expect from a handbook
This is probably the best or may be the only handbook on theeretical computer science. If one wants to get a good idea on any topic in this field, just open the book and you do not have to run around looking into different books.

On the other hand, this is a huge field, and no handbook can put all of this in one book. I found that many topics that I was looking in were not in good detail at all. For instance I was looking in Fortune's voronoi construction, the terse way of explaining things does not give the reader enough insight.

A book well worth putting on your shelf.
This book is a collection of articles on complexity theory written by a number of very competent authors. The article by Li/Vitanyi on Kolmogorov complexity and the article by Aho on pattern matching in strings stand out in particular. All articles however are very well written and packed full of useful information, even for readers who are mainly interested in applications. Extensive references are found at the end of each article, lightening the burden of doing further reading on the topics.

Oliver, Amanda and Grandmother Pig (I Can Read)

An O.K book
Grandmother is no fun. She can't read to Amanda because she keeps losing her glasses, and she can't help Oliver build with blocks because she can't sit on the floor. But she can tell stories, and sing songs... and soon Oliver, Amanda and Grandmother Pig are the best of Friends!!

My daughter's favorite
My 21/2 year old daughter adores all Amanda Pig books but this is a particular favorite. She laughs like a drain at the antics of the pigs in the story about the thunderstorm. The story about Amanda and Grandmother helping each other has encouraged Katie to offer to help me with chores too.

Amanda Pig and her best freind Lollipop
Kindergartner Amanda and her new shy freind are featured in these four stories. Lolipop will only whisper at first while visiting Amanda- but overcomes this shyness in a humorous way. The freinds have fun visiting each others houses and comparing a little sister to a big brother among other things. This book is a favorite at our house.
