The story then describes his physical deterioration and hardships a PWA succumbs. Honestly written and meant to inform, not self promote.

Great ideas for displaying your plants
Making Plant Places is a wonderful book for people who want to do more with their plants than simply stick them in pots on a shelf. The projects are really striking and so original -- you would expect to pay a fortune for them in the store, but the materials used are really inexpensive and the finished product is just beautiful. (Who knew that chicken wire could be so upscale?) I'm not especially artistic or crafty, but the directions were easy to follow and the end result is amazing. I particularly love the wall sconces and the fancy wire hangers because they're so unique and it really changes the look of a room to have plants hanging from the walls and ceiling, not just sitting on the coffee table. Gorgeous photos in the colour section, too. Highly recommended!

Okay for the younger girls...
This book is ok for a few things, but for girls 11+ it just wasn't telling us anything we didn't already know! It delt with cooking the basic things, making money the basic way, and games to play. This book didn't explain much, but if you are a girl 7-10, it would be really great.
Pretty Good
This book is pretty good, it tells you how to make some money, fix things, make food, and deal with life in general. But if you're over the age of 12, I wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise, it's very enjoyable and clever!
Great book
"A Girl's Guide to Life" is a great book for ages 9-13. It covers topics such as making gifts, fun games to play, snacks and cooking, basic social skills, art projects and crafts, and much more. The topics are all divided into chapters, including money, hygeine and grooming, safety, fixing and making things, things to do inside and outside, and more. I wouldn't recommend this book to girls older than 13 because they would probably know most of the things in here, but even they can learn something in it. The book is also a great boredom buster for hot summer days, or rainy days when there's nothing to do. Overall, this is an excellent book.

Complete Idiot, indeed
Well, the book's not all bad . . . For example, the attempt to describe Deaf culture is successful on a very basic level, and the illustrations are attractive, if not particularly useful. That, however, is the main problem- the uselessness of the illustrations. It's as if a textbook on French wrote "gkhukyf" instead of "bonjour"! There's also relatively little on grammar, other than an acknowledgement that there is such a thing as ASL grammar (which is a good first step but by no means the last. Try A Basic Course in American Sign Language by Humphries, Padden, and O'Rourke. And definitely practice with native signers!
Not a particularly good resource
I have read other "complete idiots guides" and they can be good resources for beginners. However, this one falls short. It's unclear, easily misinterpreted and inaccurate in places. It gives an slightly less than OK assessment of deaf culture and does not even begin to give the reader an understanding of ASL.
Excellent!
Excellent stories and examples of Deaf Culture info
