Exceptional.
An especially important book for any aspiring writers or students of fiction or the creative mind. Henry Miller on Writing shows Miller as he struggles to learn how to write and questions and wrestles with all the insecurities and self-loathing that is endemic to writing. As important as John Gardner's books on writing, only more readable and more fun.

Henry knows writing
For anyone who hasn't read Miller, this is a great introduction. As always, Miller's work is permeated with joy and lustfull arrogance. He is truly in love with life- and as writers go, a great and unique participant. Henry Miller on Writing provides glimpses into his work and the nature and derivitive of his own inspiration. The book will thrill the adventurer and offend the weak-minded. You will love or hate Miller.

One of the best sources available
This book is loaded with technical information for the dratsman and designer. A must have for anyone who is in the mechanical technology field.

One of the best text books ever written...
This text was the basic drafting manual that I used during my technical education; its use did not end with school, however, since I refer to it frequently in my occupation. It tells everything that needs to be explained and described in the general drawing problems that might be encountered in industrial practice. It contains excellent descriptions and illustrations for: Drawing Threads, Fasteners & Springs Geometric Constructions Clear, Concise instructions in using Drafting Instruments, (before the time of Computer Aided Drafting & Desing, in any case). An Excellent overview of the Industrial Design & Development Process, (which I wish my supervisors would read). Sectional Drawing. This book is to drafting what Machinery's Handbook, of the Industrial Press, is to the metal working industries. There are a variety of Drafting Textbooks available, but none are incrementally better, let alone drasticaly better.

Biography of an early Darwin critic...
This fascinating and important biography of T.H.Huxley shows almost another Huxley from the one we associate with the Darwinian tradition. Huxley is an important figure, for in many ways he saw more clearly than Darwin, and current biology is catching up with him. The author begins by noting that 'while Huxley enthusiastically accepted the idea of descent with modification, he was critical of the two central components of Darwin's theory: gradualism and natural selection'. As the author notes, Huxley warned Darwin on the eve of publication that he had burdened his theory unnecessarily with the dictum, natura non facit saltum. This eye opening account reveals a Huxley who could step from a time machine into the contemporary debates on evolution, as the issues that were clearly in the background to Darwin's public triumph resurface with renewed force. Indeed, we discover that Huxley was close also to the developmental tradition with his interest in morphology and considerations of type.

It is a strange testimony to the telescoped pictures we have as non-specialists dependent on hurried summaries that this alternate side of Huxley should have remained unclear throughout the whole Darwin debate. And it is a reminder that the debate is one of selective emphasis of issues that were present from the beginning and never enter the mythical accounts of the Wilberforce debate. This biography, from Prometheus books no less, seems a bellwether for a paradigm in transition. Must reading.

Cf. also Adrian Desmond's Huxley, for a fuller picture of the nineteenth century background of culture and ideology.

A superbly researched and engagingly written biography.
Sherrie L. Lyons' Thomas Henry Huxley provides an excellent history of the English biologist who was the foremost defender of Darwin's theory of evolution. His scientific background and contributions are revealed in an excellent survey.

An in depth persspective on the time line of ecology.
As Tom was forming the images for this book he fell extremely ill. While in a deep and long coma he met Henry and based upon that meeting several of the images in this book were changed. These beautiful images of the Hudson River and in particular Storm King Mountain will haunt and excite you as you consider how this area was formed and has survived man's interference. The essence of this area will be finally synthesized in his next book, The Story of a River. When completed this will give you a private insight into time and ecology not found anywhere else.

A warm and resplendently beautiful picture book
Written and illustrated by Thomas Locker, Walking With Henry is a warm and resplendently beautiful picture book based on the life and works of Henry David Thoreau. Majestic painted landscapes showcase simple descriptions drawn from and inspired by the man who loved to walk in the wilderness. Walking With Henry is a highly recommended and heartwarming tribute suitable for young readers of all ages, and aptly serve to introduce the life and work of America's most famous and enduringly popular naturalists.

Real History Lesson
This CD REALLY opened my eyes! The performance of the reader and the power of the music brought the words to life. I FINALLY understood the time & conflict our founding fathers went thru.

I wish they had presented this to me when I was in school! All I can remember was the Boston Tea Party was against taxes & the Constitution was a really successful intellectual experiment.

I've been loaning it to friends & have had trouble getting it back. They love to listen to it while driving, etc. Its very inspiring & uplifting

This is a "must have" for everyone who values freedom.
Words of Freedom: Men of Honor is a gripping dramatic rendering of historic American documents and quotes that timelessly inspires the whole world not just Americans. I would recommend this CD to any student, to any history buff, or even to anyone who has not studied History for years. I hope you find this program as thought provoking, alive, and entertaining, as I have.

Wrathworld is the next big Science Fiction Book of 2003
Wrathworld blew me away. I will never read a Science Fiction book as good as Wrathworld unless Wrathworld 2 comes out. I suggest the book for anyone interesed in Sci Fi.
You'll Love it.

Smart, Sexy, Fast-Paced: The Matrix Meets Beh Hur
One of the best Sci-Fi books I've ever read. Wrathworld is a story about a middle-aged guy named Foster Grey who lives under a domed city on Mars in the future. The citizens have a Taliban kind of government, but they get to escape into virtual realities worlds after work every day. Foster has designed himself this hot young "Virt" wife and programmed them with two kids, but when he gets fired from his job his Virt family is confiscated and sent to Wrathworld. This is the virtual reality world where you can go in and raise hell...kill the virtual humans, burn down buildings, generally run wild. The super-moralistic government says it reduces tensions to let your wild side out in Warthworld. Foster has to go into Wrathworld to rescue his wife and kids, and he has to get there by going through side doors in adjacent realities. So, he walks on the sea with Jesus in one reality; he has an orgy in a "paradise" world. He fights his way to Wrathworld...and then it really gets wild! The ending is breath-taking...it sent chills down my neck. Highly recommend, but not for kids. The book contains a few scenes of high violent content and several explicit sexual encounters...naughty but nice. Well-written, fast-paced. It was like the Matrix meets Ben Hur.

Wonderful piece on Black American Inventors!
The author describes the life and work of two female and three male African American Inventors and Scientists, including the contributions of agriculturalist George Washington Carver and Nigerian-born computer scientist Philip Emeagwali.

The search engines contain a thousand supplementary references to Carver or Emeagwali.

The stories are filled with the themes of perseverance and overcoming obstacles.

The inventions described include massively parallel supercomputers, petroleum reservoir simulation and oil recovery, uses of peanut, lasers for eye surgery, and a new way to make rocket fuel.

Excerpts read: "Emeagwali programmed the Connection Machine to make 3.1 billion calculations per second.... This speed was a new world record in 1989.... The record breaking speed of Emeagwali's invention helped people understand the value of parallel computing."

The photographs of the inventors and the illustrations of their inventions make this a useful book for K-12 school assignments on inventors.

This book is a must for math, science and black history related school assignments.

An excellent choice for the novice
This book is an excellent choice for someone wishing to learn the basics of technical drawing. The book was prepared for a high-school level audience, but it has superb explanations of drawing concepts.

The book is divided into 25 chapters. Just some of the important topics covered are: dimensioning, line choices, views and representations of objects, partial views, and many other standard drawing conventions, just to name a few.

Although this book does address both CAD and mechanical drawing techniques, its CAD coverage is (by necessity) very limited.

My background is in chemistry, and I had taught myself AutoCAD, but until I bought this book, my drawings were poor by proper standards. After using this book every day for about two weeks, my drawing skills improved immensely, and I was able to produce high quality drawings in a very short time.

If you are new to technical drawing and wish to learn proper conventions in an easy to follow format, then you will be very glad you bought this book. Additionally, if you are wishing to create your drawings with AutoCAD, then an excellent companion to this book is "Applying AutoCAD-A Step by Step Approach" by Terry Wohlers. A word of advice: learn proper drawing techniques before trying to learn CAD.

The one great guide of English that puts it all together
This book helps me a lot especially, who speak Englsih as second language. If I pick one of great features in this book that I have just finished, it has everthing in one bindle such as speaking and writing, vocabualries, grammer, and pronunciation all together. After I have found the book among many others in the same category, I decided to stick on this book for improving my overall English capabiliteis, good for people doing internation tradings as well as students.
