A delight!
This book is a delight. The secret of Danny Thomas's long career comes through in this fascinating book. He clearly loved and took great pride in his wonderful family, thoroughly enjoyed his career, was grateful to all those who helped him on his way, gave back to the community -- and of course, he knew how to tell a great story! The details of his early show business career were particularly interesting as was the story about the founding of St. Jude's hospital. I don't usually read celebrity biographies but this is a good account of a life well spent and I'm glad I happened to read it.

Awesome!
We borrowed this book from the library for our 15 month old son, Ryan, and he absolutley loves it so much, I had to buy it! This is the first book that he has actually started pointing to pictures when we ask him things like, "Where is the computer? or Where are the shoes?" This book has great big photos (not drawn pictures) and I think toddlers can definately relate. We spend a lot of time with this book, looking at it over and over and he gets such a kick out of learning and talking about what's in the book. I highly recommend it!

Nymphs of North American Stonefly Genera (Thomas Say Foundation Monographs: Vol. 12)
Published in Hardcover by Entomological Society of Amer (1988)
Authors: Kenneth W. Stewart and Bill P. Stark
Amazon base price: $108.00
Average review score:

The definitive work on stonefly nymphs.
If you know to look for this book, you probably already know that it is the definitive reference on stonefly nymphs. This is not for the casual reader: if you are not an entomologist, you will find it difficult but rewarding reading. For the flyfisher, the introductory chapters are an excellent introduction to plecoptera, once you want to go beyond Swisher and Richards, or Leiser and Boyle. I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stewart, stay at his home, and collect with him. His graciousness is as great as his knowledge. A revision is in the works.

A must-have book for Real-Time system designers/programmers
This book is a rare commodity in the area of Real-Time systems. While there are several books on programming in general and object oriented methods in specific for real-time and embedded developers, few approach the subject from timing prodictability point of view.

In several ways, this book has first appeared way ahead of its time. When the processing capacity itself was not available, several embedded developers were more concerned about optimizing their applications for that elusive 'speed' than being worried about building fully predictable systems using proven design methodologies geared towards guaranteeing timing predictability, which inheretly introduce certain inefficiencies in common perception. Therefore, these techniques were deemed to be applicable to only those exotic world of 'hard-real time' systems such as defense, nuclear and not to mere mortals.

With modern processors becoming more and more powerful and devices being targeted to mass markets (e.g! ., set-top boxes, personal communication devices, home automation etc) the market is ready to demand (and of course, get) timing predictability out of embedded devices. Developers therefore need standard books like this and standard software tools (e.g., TimeWiz) to meet this shifting paradigm.

The methods described in this book can be looked at a precursor to a set of "structured methods" for designing real-time systems, based upon temporal modeling (as opposed to object modelling).

Wonderful eye opener of mental institution treatment
I read this book many years ago and have not been able to forget it nor what this man went through. This is a true story of how Mr. Thomas was misdiagnosed and abusively treated in the mental institution. A must, must read for those involved in the care of the emotionally disturbed.

A Book To Dream On
The story of a young Plains Indian who traveled to Europe in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Rodeo, this book is extraordinary and moving. The story is fun, but it is the illustrations that bring this book to the level of genuine art: the pictures are completely magical. This book transformed my day after reading it: I felt renewed by it's beauty and innocence.

Educational
Do I recall incorrectly or were quotes from this book used in chicago at the democratic convention to re-elect Clinton? Regardless of your political offiliations or your personal feelings about this President,Clintons record is 'His record' and it's layed out for you about his first four years, in this book. This is a useful tool for our children and their schools. The report format makes the process and Clintons accomplishments easier to understand. This is also a useful tool for our new americans learning the process. Buy this and pass it on to a young person.

Absolutely essential!
Anyone even remotely interested in folklore, folk music, or American history should get this book. It contains over 400 rhymes (some with music) collected in the early 1900s by Thomas W. Talley, a black chemistry professor from Tennessee. Most of the rhymes are American, but there are a few from Africa, Jamaica, and elsewhere.

This alone would be worth the price of admission, but this edition also contains a new essay on the work, plus an updated bibliography and index, plus the original introduction by Thomas W. Talley (an excellent 50-page essay which covers performance practice and even details of instrument construction), plus additional rhymes and music that didn't make it into the original edition.

Great to page idly through or to read cover-to-cover, this book would be a fantastic addition to anyone's collection.
