Good kid's story
This being the first "Thomas the Tank Engine" book I've ever read. I recognized some stories as word-for-word narrations from "Thomas" videos, but since I haven't seen ALL of the video or TV stories, some stories were new to me. My sons are big Thomas fans, so I know they'll love these books when they get them for Christmas!

Good story book
This is a good Thomas story book. There is a TV series about Thomas. Then there are vediotapes about Thomas and there are a whole lot toys about Thomas. Chilren like them all. When I bought this book, ha, my three young ones fought for it. And I had to read to them one by one in turn. And I have other Thomas book too. They just can get enough of Thomas.

A great read!
Everyone should give this book a go. Fal goes on a quest and on the way discovers a lot of things he never knew.........

I love this stuff.
Man, this was one good book. I've read it 3 times and I'm in the process of reading it again! I love the way the story is layed out, it doesn't jump around too much and there's plenty of action and intrigue to keep the reader interested. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes true fantasy stories with magic, dragons, and plenty of humor. Another interesting thing about this book is that some of the songs sung in the book are accompanied by actual music in the back for those adventurous enough to try them out. I haven't done that yet, but I imagine they are just as much fun as the book!

Not All Treasure Is In The Sea
Found this to be a very interesting paperback book for anyone dreaming of treasure hunting/finds. But, I wish it was updated. I'm sure there are more interesting things about Florida. Not all of Fla. treasure finds are in the sea as this book notes. Worth reading.Open anywhere and begin reading.

AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE.
Being a once avidly enthusiastic amateur treasure hunter myself, in years past, I diligently read each and every volume of Mr. Terry's exhaustively researched works. Although I found some the information erroneous or far from exact - for instance many locations cited as "ghost towns" are far from being one - there are so many intriguing stories of legends, factual evidence & past recoveries that any true TH'r will be enthralled. Treasure hunting is supposedly America's fastest growing hobby: it's uniquely enjoyable for the adventure, historical aspects & healthy outdoor recreation. Now that I reside in Britain, I am finding much older & infinitely more valuable coins and relics. And when you really find something decent...Boy Howdy!! Not as easy as it sounds, though. To be a professional TH'r, one has to have patience, applying him/herself with the perseverance of a detective: because that's what it takes to be successful. Exhaustive research is the key: going where people gathered long ago will be beneficial for coin shooters who are after more than modern coins....to me, that was a complete waste of time & energy. Going for the gold? Go where it is KNOWN to be & be creative: the better your equipment - i.e. a decent detector which finds gold & common sense makes this a most fascinating hobby. For some, it's a life's career. Good luck!!

Kind of fragmented.
The stories are good stories,
the pictures are neat, and
the characters are interesting.

This book, though, tends to be written
in a sort of fragmentary style,
leaving out a bit much, and often
not giving a good idea of why one
picture follows another.

On the other hand, my 3-year-old likes
it, like all her other Thomas books.

An excellent choice for "Thomas the Tank Engine" fans.
Do you know of a young child who enjoys the "Thomas the Tank Engine" segments on the PBS show "Shining Time Station"? Does this child enjoy having stories read to him or her? Then "A Cow on the Line" would be a great addition to the child's library. This book features 42 photographs from the Britt Allcroft video productions on its 32 pages. All photos are quite clear. The pictures are well placed to keep the attention of young listeners. Because the text could serve as a script for the television segments, this is a "read to me" book. A strong third- or fourth-grade reader could handle the text, but the sentence structure and phrasing is beyond beginning readers. As listed above, the book contains 4 stories. Only one features Thomas -- Percy and Edward take the spotlight in this book. The stories are true to the nature of the "Thomas" series and are a delight to read. And if your child is like the two year old in our house, he or she won't even mind if you don't sound like Ringo Starr or George Carlin (the video narrators) when you read the stories!

less than perfect but still a must-have for Thomas fans
Paperback with flimsy paper that doesn't stand up to much wear. Our copy is dog-eared and the back cover is ripped off and that didn't take long.

There is one page per letter with a photo from the televison show depicting the theme of that letter (not a hand drawn or computer generated illustration or cartoon). For example: A is for all aboard and the photo is of Thomas stopped at a station. The photos are great. Every page has one sentence at the bottom that uses the word in context. I do have a complaint that each letter is only shown in the upper case. Despite much room available on the page, when the word is spelled out the first letter is in tiny font just like the rest of the letters. I would prefer if the presenting letter were a larger font to highlight its' use in the word. I was hoping to use this book as a way to teach the letters to my son and this is why I am critical of these factors.

With that said, any little Thomas the Tank Engine lover will absolutely love this book.

Some of the words are a stretch or strange (T is for tracks but then the photo shows Terence the tractor and the sentence is "Terence tells Thomas about his tracks". Why not use T for Thomas (the one word the children are most familiar with), or else use Terence as he is pictured, or just say that T is for Thomas, AND Terence, AND Tracks?

This book has gotten us through some long car trips and air flights.

With all my little criticisms, I feel Iit's low cost justifies its purchase and replacement when it wears out.

Lovable Thomas and friends explore the alphabet.
Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends from the Island of Sodor introduce ABC's to children. An excellent picture book that is perfect for pre-readers. A must have for any young Thomas fan! Purchase two as it is destined to become "well-loved".

Almost Perfect Thomas Book
I enjoy Thomas The Tank Engine a lot. When I was younger Duck was my favorite engine (James now is my favorite engine) someone probobly got me this book. When I read it last week, I noticed a few mistakes. One, most of the pictures don't come from the real story. Some of them come from Percy Runs Away, Percy Proves A Point, Pop Goes The Diesel, and Percy and the Signal. Two, with some Thomas books you get exitied ,like you are watching a tape. This one didn't get me exitded. It was okay. Other than those two things it was okay.

The PEW book of all time!
My son makes me read this book every night before and it is TORTURE! Every character is mean and nasty, the language is very British and obtuse, and frequently the stories just don't make sense. I moan every time Jackson asks for this book, and I call it 'the PEW book of all time.'

I Heart Ringo
This is one of Ringo's finest recordings yet. Without his soothing voice, I would have went crazy and killed people years ago. But now I listen to this tape every night and I think to myself: Aren't I just like Diesel, the arrogent mean tank engine. So now I strive myself on being just like Thomas. YOU SHOULD TOO.

My son loves this one!
My son loves this story. We have the story itself recorded on tape so that he can just play it... otherwise we'd lose our voices reading it over and over. With bright pictures and an articulate story (with a moral: the honest hard working engine wins out in the end over the wicked arrogant one), this book others in the series have our son completely charmed. It keeps him busy for hours!

Not what I expected.
I collect true inspirational stories. One of the disadvantages of shopping "on-line" is you don't always know what you are getting. That was the case with "Southern Christmas: Literary Classics of the Holidays." If you are looking for mostly Southern flavored fiction by Southern autors with a heavy dose of narratives about racial prejudice against blacks, this is for you. Especially nice non-fiction pieces come from Robert E. Lee and Harper Lee punctuate the volume. One page bios of the authors are helpful and interesting. If you want something more traditional and inspirational, save your money.

The true sentiment of Christmas in the South brought to life
At last a collection which reveals the many faces of Christmas in the South. Too many anthologies about Christmas show only the sweet and often unrealistic side of Christmas. For those who have both laughed at absurdities and cried at frustrations on this day, this anthology is for you. Twenty-eight of the finest Southern writers allow us entry into their Christmas experinces. Buy this book, you will not be sorry. Contributors inlcude Rick Bragg, Robert E. Lee, Dori Sanders, and Harper Lee.

A nice way to spend the holidays, or look forward to them
I saw this book around at bookstores last year but never picked it up until I saw a mention of it recently and decided to order a copy. It is a very nice mix of Christmas stories by Southern authors--most predictible and a few I'd never heard of and was intrigued to discover. My favorite was Lillian Smith's recollection of the chain gang coming over for Christmas dinner. Some authors I'd hoped for are missing, but generally I really enjoyed it and recommend it to others as the holidays draw near.

Most Confusing Accounting Textbook On The Market Today.
This Book begins using something called horizontial statments and then in chapter 5 switches to regular T accounts thus confusing students completely, I have yet to find a student that tells me the book is easy to understand or useful. It would be helpful if there was a solutions manual. Our school will change books next semester. It's not even good enough to make dorm furniture.

A good book with the right instructor
I've read the reviews stating that this is a confusing book. I disagree completely. Although the author does not immediately delve into traditional T-accounts, the introduction of the "horizontal model" serves as a good foundation for building the awareness of the accounting equation that should be second nature BEFORE tackling T-accounts. The text's preface states: "A horizontal financial statements model replaces the accounting equation as the predominant teaching platform. The model enables students to VISUALIZE THE SIMULTANEOUS EFFECTS OF A SINGLE BUSINESS EVENT on the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows." I felt as though this methodology was very effective for my learning style. Recording transactions in T-accounts came almost as second nature after mastering the horizontal model.

The "Working Papers" (a separate workbook) makes doing the assigned problems easy by providing a ready-made template for each problem. If you've had to draw your own T-accounts or your own journal in a notebook before, you will definitely appreciate this.

This text serves as a good introduction to the skills necessary to master financial accounting.

Great college companion!
This book is an excellent book to go with a Financial Accounting course. Everything is laid out in plain English, and shows you in diagrams and models exactly how each kind of transaction works. I recommend for professors everywhere to adopt this book for their clases. I'm glad mine did!

unpleasant stories in the Thomas canon
This little book includes four stories -- "James in a Mess", "Bertie's Chase", "Percy and the Signal" and "Percy Proves a Point". Each story is accompanied by photographs from the video series. My complaint is that the stories are confusing and not well told.

Good stories, but poor illustrations (photographs)
The books consists of the traditional James stories. However, the illustrations are replaced by photographs from the videos. I believe, making the book look darker and less appealing to my three year old. My recommendation--look for an edition with the original illustrations.

James in a Mess and Other Thomas Stories
Not only does this collection of tales contain the usually wonderful Thomas tales, but it features actual photographs to accompany the stories. These add a realistic touch to the sticky mess James gets in after making fun of another engine, only to have a load of goo land all over him! All the tales (several more follow) follow suit. For example, 'Percy Proves A Point' is a fun illustration of the pleasant surprises that await someone who push themselves just a little harder than they thought they could...and the joy of celebrating those victories with friends.
