A must for cat lovers!
Do you love cats and find kittens to be adorable; then The Little Kitten Book (Little Library of Cats) by Elizabeth Martyn, David Taylor is a must have. This handy little guide presents all facets of owning a cat, e.g., do not hug a kitten to hard since their little bodies are fragile and if you want to spoil the baby then cook them some scrambled eggs. The pictures are ultra cute and the development from kitten to cat is fascinating. I certainly hope this book will come back into print since as I wrote earlier for a person who is crazy about cats then this is a must have!

History, Folklore, Behavior, Breeding & Care of Tabby Cats
"The Little Tabby Cat Book" is a great little (and I do mean little, as in total pages and dimensions) coffee table book, or, as I like to call them: "bathroom books." Almost all of its 61 pages are filled with color photos and drawings of tabbies. There are bits of facts and history, but it doesn't really go into depth. Sure, you'll probably learn a few things (I did, anyway), but don't expect a complete how-to guide here.

The book is organized into four parts, as explained below:

"Creative Cats" -- This six-page section spotlights famous tabby cats, whether in folklore (Puss in Boots) or aviation history ("Jazz, the only animal aboard the first airship to fly the Atlantic") or even film (Stephen King's "Cat's Eye").

"Gallery of Cats" -- The longest chapter in here (at approximately 18 pages), "Gallery of Cats" is just that--a photo gallery of cats. All types are shown here--Chocolate Tabby Angora, Exotic Shorthair, Maine Coon, Chocolate Lynx-point, Blue Classic Tabby Persian, and Non-Pedigree (the typical household tabby)--and each breed is given a double-page spread, pointing out each one's origins, "cateristics"/quirks, you name it. While I really enjoyed this section, I didn't quite understand why other breeds were added, since this is a book on tabbies. Still, a great visually-beautiful chapter.

"Me and My Cat" -- This is a really fun part of the book. Here you're given a two-page "Purr-sonal History" for your cat where you can document his/her features, favorite things, and "firsts," as in the first time s/he opened his/her eyes, gave you a "mouse-gift," etc. While a cutesy idea for doting owners, there really isn't enough room to go into detail, and it's only just for one cat. Also in this section, cat-naming tips are given, along with 13 possible names and their meanings. But my favorite part would have to be the cat horoscopes.

"Practical Cat" -- This is where all the facts are given, starting with what to look for when choosing a kitten (nothing on adult cats, though, but the same rules apply), understanding "cat chat," creating cuisine treats (which I found absolutely revolting, being a vegan, but there are snack options like cantaloupe and other veggies/fruits, which some of my cats prefer over meat), grooming and health, and a final A-Z care guide. A lot of this stuff is just common sense (like cat-proofing your house as you would if you had a child there), but for some readers, it may be something new.

It goes without saying that "The Little Tabby Cat Book" is ideal for cat lovers, but it's especially perfect for tabby lovers. Worth buying if you are such a person.

A surprising first hand look into Taylor's life
It's to bad this book was written so early on in Taylor's career, because there are many more chapters to his interesting struggle through life. Get an insightful look into Taylor's battle against drugs and how raw talent led him into the league. The league in which he invented a new position, the tomahawk chop and was the first ever to be double-teamed. A surprising read.

A great lean book
This book is authoritatively written by two researchers working for Dan Jones at the Lean Enterprise Research Centre in Cardiff University. Dan is co-author of the Machine that Changed the World & Lean Thinking - the books that started the whole lean thing off - and wrote a couple of the chapters. It provides an excellent set of case studies and chapters written by a number of leading academics and practitioners in the lean arena. The book is a great reference aid for a lean practitioner. It is made up of 7 sections - including background to where lean came from and the principles, a section on analysing supply chain performance and identifying waste, examples of improvement activities conducted by the authors and the Cardiff research team, and a section (Towards the Future) looking at new areas of lean research and new lean tools that practitioners will provide thought provoking and really useful. It does a number of things really well: 1. It is a good reference book as it contains manageable chapters that can be read in isolation from one another. There are good summaries of things like the Lean Principles, 7 wastes etc. and a good section on further sources of information on lean. 2. For the practitioner there are some useful tools and techniques that can be taken away and used right away - for example the value stream mapping and demand amplification tool sections are really interesting. 3. It takes lean manufacturing and shows how it is applicable in a number of environments - very thought provoking and quite leading edge. I would say it is a very worthwhile read for anyone interested in lean - student or practitioner.

Erasmus Revealed through His Writings
David Bentley-Taylor has written a most interesting account of the Dutch biblical scholar Erasmus, by telling the story of his life and writings by introducing us to him through his writings. Erasmus lived just after the invention of printing and used this new technology to publish the Greek New Testament and to retranslate it into Latin, correcting errors that had persisted for over a thousand years.

He tells us of Erasmus' strengths and weaknesses. We see him as the instigator of the Reformation, yet a critic of Luther and others who would take what he had begun to the next logical step.

He would sometimes stand up for what he believed in, but at other times would deny what he had previously written, to keep in favour with the leaders of the Church.

We see Erasmus' perseverance in the face of opposition and many illnesses, but we are also informed of the many contradictions in what he wrote.

This is a great book. It is even better than his very good volume on Augustine.

Highly recommended.

Naked Leader
This is the only business book that I have read from cover to cover and then gone back to use as a reference. The format of the book, life journeys and short sharp chapters keep you wanting more and reading on to find the next nugget. This book cuts through the jargon and its easy to read language make it accessible to all. You don't have to be a CEO to benefit from this book, it demonstrates that we can all be better leaders and provides guidance on how to make the most of each day and each situation. Even if you are not a line manager, if you work in a team or interact with others in the course of your work then you will benefit from reading this book. As well as providing some life changing guidence there are also some laugh out load moments along the way. In my experience this is unlike other business books in that you want to keep reading. Buy it for yourself and your best friend.

A Good Way to Focus on the Gospels for a Year
I wanted to spend a year with just the Gospels, rather than the larger New Testament or the even larger Bible, so I picked up a copy of this book. I have been very pleased. The selection for each day is taken from a harmony of the Gospels (and the entire harmony list is given for reference in the back of the book), so as the year progresses, you move quite thoroughly through the life and ministry of Jesus. Daily readings are accompanied by an explanatory text and an inspirational text. Just a few minutes reading each day gets through it, so it's not really much of a time investment. The translation is easy to read, but corresponds very well to more traditional translations. The print is a decent size (I read mine in a rather dimly-lit church) and the binding is holding the pages in. A word to Catholics considering this book: this book is published by Tyndale, a Protestant publisher, but I haven't found anything in the commentaries that is either anti-Catholic or significantly against Church doctrine. In fact, the only item I have come across so far is a little reference to Jesus' brothers and sisters, which is definitely a Protestant concept, but a rather minor one. I am enjoying this book a lot and am glad I bought it.

Superb Handbook for Stockpeople and Vets alike
A well organised book providing everything anyone would want to know about the diseases affecting their pigs: causes, prognoses, preventions and treatments. Possibly a bit "high-browed" for many lay-people - none-the-less a valuable companion for the pig farm
