Hide and Seek
This is a book my daughter LOVED looking at. She loved looking for all the hidden characters and all the attention getting detail. Plus playing along with the duck and bunny were great fun for her. Great introduction to reading and books.

Read it again!
This is the first book that my 13 month old wants to look at over and over. It's fun because there are a lot of things to point out on every page - flowers, various bugs, acorns and seeds - which helps keep it interesting for the parent, too.

mother of one daughter
a favorite among all the children I babysat because it wasn't just a read but an interactive book we had to find the duck on each page and there was as always a picture of the childs pull toy car hidden in the book that the children enjoyed finding and the ending was just what the children wanted the ending to be! A must for every book shelf! I have three on order for three friends who are pregnant and know they will love it as much as we have!

Puppy too small
This book was bought for me when I was expecting my second child. This child was autistic. This is the book that helped my son enjoy reading and looking at the pictures. Because my son can't actually read yet he knows the story by heart as well as our actions, especially the ending. I just wish Cindy Skezeres would realize the impact that she's had on my son.

Got a copy and love it!
I recommended this book already, but now my faith has been reaffirmed! My daughter (just six months old now) and I got a copy via Amazon.com for Christmas. Laura doesn't talk yet, of course, but we read books all the time, anyway. I think her favorite (and mine) is Puppy Too Small. There's enough rhythm in the language to keep her happy, and the illustrations are bright and clever enough to bring a smile both to her face and mine.

Great book for kids (and adults)
I gave this book to a friend of mine's kids, and they never got tired of hearing about 'puppy to small'. I wish I had gotten a copy of my own, and hope the author/publisher will reprint some of her older titles, because they are terrific. My friend is holding on to the books for her grandkids, and buys new ones of this author as she finds them. I found them fun to read to kids, and buy several of Cyndy's books to keep on hand as gifts. The moving on recently helped a two-year old with the trauma of moving houses. The author just hits home for kids, with a little fun thrown in!

this book is mirror~fun!
Toby makes silly faces throughout the story and at the end, you and your child can make silly faces in the mirror within the book!

Great bedtime book
My 2-year-old son and I love this book. It's a good way for him to learn about different emotions, and it encourages him to look in the mirror and see what his own face looks like when he is happy or sad or frightened. He likes to make the silly sounds too; during the day, he'll come up to me and say "Mommy 'Eek, eek!'".It's a great "winding down" bedtime story too, because it's about Toby getting ready for bed. I highly recommend this book and I will be buying more Toby books for Christmas for my son.

Toby's Silly Faces
Toby, a playful young mouse, has fun making faces in the mirror with his Dad. They cover the gamut of human emotions from happy to worried to angry. Set in a nurturing family environment, the story is a pleasure to read. A nice surprise for the reader appears on the last page: a mirror in which children will enjoy making their own faces.

A great book!
I've looked for this book for ten years, and can't believe I finally located it! I loved the story when I read it (circa 1975) but then lost track of the title. I knew it was about a bat and a flying squirrel, and it was called 'something...In the Night Woods.' A great mystery book for kids. Can't wait to read it again.

A Delightful Mystery --- Not an Easy Whodunnit!
Like other reviewers of this book, this was one of my favorite stories. I think I checked it out of the school library a dozen times. It is entertaining and it makes you think. Both boys and girls appreciate this wonderful mystery.

As a kid, one of my all-time favorite books
I loved this book. I got it in either second or third grade (~1970) and read it over and over. The mystery was great and I felt transported to a different world. I would recommend it to any kid who likes mysteries and adventure stories. I was really pleased to see that it was reprinted and am buying a copy for my own son.

a mom of two
This is a wonderful book my daughter of three giggles every time I read it to her! She has started to notice every kiss and makes a name out of it. It is so cute I highly recommend this book very easy reading. Great bedtime story!

Wonderfully warm and affectionate children's book.
This is our 15 month old daughter's favorite book before bedtime (She gets a kiss at the turn of every page). The artwork is soft and appealing. When she "reads" it to herself, she kisses the cute little animals on the page. Our copy is even durable enough to survive a few accidental dunks in the tub (made out of that solid cardboard stuff). "Kisses" allows a parent the ability to bond one-on-one with their child in a caring and affectionate way. Of course, my wife and I believe that any positive time that your child spends in front of a book at an early age is to their benefit.

Brings Back Memories
This book was read to me over 24 years ago by my father and he has memorized this book. I am planning to be a teacher and I plan to use this book in my classes.

If your a cat lover you'll love this one.
This book is about the daily events of a kitten, who lives on a country farm. It is an easy read and flows well with big, bright pictures. From eating breakfast to walks with mother cat this book is great for infants and toddlers.

My son loves it.
My son got this book as a gift when he was 4 years old. Before Kindergarten he was able to "read" it from memory (with full character voices). Don't tell his friends, but he still likes it in second grade!

This is a sweet, funny story with adorable illustrations.
This is my favorite of all of Cyndy Szekeres' Golden Naptime Tales. It tells the story of a puppy who thinks he has nothing to do until he goes in search friends to form a Nothing-To-Do Club and ends up exhausted after a day filled with playing, dancing, reading and making mud pies.

The illustrations are simple and heartwarming. The animals play with sweet abandon and the looks of joy conveyed on their faces make you want to pluck them from the book to give them a good petting and a resounding kiss!

I'm also thrilled that the first line of this book is "Momma is away. Daddy is dusting." Throughout this series of books, the author/illustrator has communicated (without any Politically Correct sledgehammering) that men and women have an equal responsibility in taking care of children and the home and receive equal joy in the process.

THE most adorable children's book!
I had this book as a little girl (must've been 3+, since it was published in 1980), and I still remember all the precious little stories! It took me forever to find the book--thank goodness my mother remembered a little rabit named Richard and illustrator Cyndy Szekeres. After three years, I finally found it and have pounced on the opportunity to have it in my collection again. I'm certain my twins will love this one as much as I did!

Excellent Children's Storybook
This is an excellent storybook for children and parents too! Patsy Scarry uses animal characters to create stories about the fun and silly things children (and parents!) do. It is one of our family favorites. It makes you feel warm and giggly from head to toe!

Get A Copy at All Cost!
This wonderful children's story is a tale of a backwoods family hearing-tell that their Uncle Skinny is sick. Mrs. Clumpet, the best soup-maker around whips up a batch to be carried downstream by their makeshift boat. But they all fall asleep and are being carried toward the waterfall! What will become of the Clumpets? What will become of Uncle Skinny's soup? Find a copy of this delightful tale, read it to a loved-one under the age of 7 to find out how it turns out! Well worth paying the extra as it is out of print!! Illustrations in this book are as clever as the story!

The Night Before Christmas

A great book for a great price!!
In preparing our list of Christmas books to share with others, we had to search far and wide on amazon to find this particular book, a paperback edition of the classic Night Before Christmas.

This is the book I've used for years when reading this story to my own children, passing on Tasha Tudor and other illustrators. Why?

Although we can find the same poem and pay a lot more, with award winning illustrators, the illustrations provided by Douglas Gorsline are surely the best. They are quite colorful, and offer details little children love looking into...cats lie sleepily on the window sill, we see an overview of the town, the presents spilling from the open sack are intriguing and plentiful, and Jolly St. Nick is -- well, quite Jolly (as you can see by looking at the cover!)

The story is an "abridged version" - I'm not sure about other parents, but we read this on Christmas Eve, and we only have so much time and energy. Everything we remember from the classic poem by Clement Clarke Moore is in this version.

(From "'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse" to "He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!" In between we have everything, from the names of the eight tiny reindeer, to a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly, including dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky".

In other words, don't be scared off by 'abridged'!)

Perhaps a hardcover edition might be more appropriate if you're giving a gift (unless you're giving to more than one child), but this book is one of the best offers we've found!

A classic done simply and inexpensively!

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor
I discovered this book 31 years ago, for my daughter and it is still loved by all the family. The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story. We still read it to all the young children on Christmas Eve and for adults we read the story and pass a grab bag gift every time the word THE is mentioned. It would not be Christmas without this book. It is magical.

A beautiful edition, to give as a gift
We have an inexpensive paperback version (see our reviews) of this classic poem, and we said that's enough for us. That was before we looked through this beautifully illustrated (by Bruce Whatley) edition of The Night Before Christmas.

The lyrics are the same, from book to book, but the fanciful illustrations in this one are enough to engage adults and children as they read this book together.

The perfect gift for any family whose Christmas tradition includes reading this classic!
