The Adventures of Charlie Squirrel: this adventurous tale is both entertaining and exciting. The kind of story you want to read to your kids before bed, Charlie is a classic story from a classy author.

I really liked this book alot. It showed me that learning can be fun and cool. I really liked the animals. They were very funny. Oliver Owl is my favrit. My friend Anne likes Susan Snake because she makes funny noises. I hope Mr. Stephens will write more books. I want to know what happens to Charlie next!

The Adventures of Charlie the Squirrel was recommended by an American friend as excellent bedtime reading for my younger children which would last for several evenings during our seaside holiday. However, we finished the book in just two evenings as the children (three and five) enjoyed Charlie and his mischievous friends immensely. This clever book was also appropriate for our neighbour's seven year old to practice his reading. It was also enjoyable for me to read as a parent with children of different ages as each was able to enjoy different aspects of the book (Each family member also had his favourite character - Charlie, Rex Racoon and Bucky Beaver topped the list). I also liked the adventure. Thanks to Michael Stephens for an enjoyable and well-written children's adventure filled with wit, puns and lessons on friendship and co-operation.

I'm a dabbler in Ancient Egyptian history and this is a great buy. At under $15 I think it's a great deal considering it's hardcover and has a TON of full color pictures. It covers a wide array of topics from Geography to Pharoahs. The book is handsome enough to display on a coffee table, detailed enough to get a taste of ancient egypt, and still simple enough that it would make a terrific gift for a child of any age (I'm 23 and I think this book is fantastic).

Other topics include: daily life of the Egyptian (not just nobility!), tools, jewelry, mummification, writing system, agriculture, textiles, food, religion.

I think that Eyewitness:Ancient Egypt is an amazing book. I liked how they wrote about how the Egyptians built their pyramids. If you are thinking about reading this book you should,because you will learn alot. Belive me, it's a very interesting book.

Bought in on sight, compulsively, just couldn't deny myself the pleasure of possessing this piece. It's a book of basic astronomy, nothing terribly technical in it, good for a high-school student. The book is absolutely magnificent: nice paper, clear type, an awful lot of colorful illustrations, all very appropriate, in one word, everything you can wish for in a science book -- it is so beautiful, like a toy, you wanna eat it. If you got a kid, buy it. Actually, if you don't have a kid, buy it anyway, a kid is just a good excuse to spend the money on it; your family will fight over it.

It is a nice book of astronomy. New datas and complete explanations make it worth reading!

Written for non-science college students, this book is highly recommended for anyone interested in astronomy. Its breath, clarity, superb illustrations and software are first rate. Prentice Hall appears to hvae repurposed this text for amateur astronomers in another book, Astronomy: A Beginner's Guide to the Universe, which is nearly identical, albeit abbreviated in areas. Both books are an excellent value and users need to decide whether the academic version is worth more. Having read "Astronomy Today" cover to cover, there is much than can be shortened, such as when the authors discuss difficulties encountered in obtaining astronomy knowledge, rather than the knowledge itself. Its generous illustrations reinforce much of the text, taking this philosophy further, it could have been that much of the text could take a back seat to more detailed illustrations. Nevertheless a marvelous job!

My 5th graders enjoy this book. After "reading" this wordless book, we tour our school and observe the "alphabet school." It is amazing how many letters they find in the most obscure locations. The search continues for weeks. This is a great way to hone observational skills and attention to detail. Wonderful book.

In this book for children (no words except for the introduction), the artist finds settings throughout a typical city in which the letters of the alphabet can be seen in the buildings, streets, etc: a very fresh look at the alphabet that children will enjoy. The book was a 1996 Caldecott Honor book (i.e., a runner-up to the Medal winner) for best illustrations in a children's book.

My second grade class loves this book even though they are way beyond learning the alphabet. It presents a new way to look at surroundings. I've seen children transfer this way of thinking by finding letters, patterns, and shapes in their world. Creative and fresh.

a difficult book to read, stylistically speaking. the sentences are awkward, and 300 pages later i couldn't adapt to the point that they smoothed out. chapters 2-5, roughly 100 pages, seemed particularly viscous. i went through the entire book without feeling that i really knew what the author meant by the term "daimonic." there's a footnote from the intro that gives a hint, another hint on page 65, but after going through it a third time the best i can do is work backward from terms from freud and jung. diamond provides reasonably informative and entertaining overviews of noted theorists and brief biographies of creative artists. the most welcome line of the book for me was a quote from rollo may: "the task of the therapist is to conjure up the devils rather than put them to sleep." no devils, and few other readers, will be particularly stirred up by the book, i'm afraid, but i give it a four for the revelation that western thinkers have arrived at "confrontation therapy" mere thousands of years after the orient (a zen master shoved his non-swimming student into a deep pond. as the student thrashed, the master calmly asked, "at this moment, what is your original mind?").

He also clarifies, while developing the ideas of Rollo May, how we therapists collude with our clients and culture, thus depriving ourselves of the value and resources of this normal dimension of our being. He integrates psychoanalytic, Jungian, and existential theory under a new rubric of Existential Depth Psychology. As May states, our job is often "not to still the daimons but to wake them."

In addition, I think this is an important, engaging, and well-written work that I wish all my colleagues would read.

Steve Brown really delves deep into the doctrine for prayer! This is an excellent handbook for people who really want to know not only how to approach God, but what it takes to have satisfying and fulfilling interaction with Him.

Rather than trying to tell people what to pray or even what not to, Mr. Brown gets to the root of the problem... getting started. Mr. Brown's theory is "Unbelievers don't pray because they are afraid that God might be there. Believers don't pray because they are afraid he might not be." He asserts that God is interested in developing a relationship with us not just hearing from us when we want or need something. He explains that before we can have this relationship we need to trust God unconditionally. To leap forward or fall back in total faith that God will be there to catch us and sustain us, even in times when He doesn't seem to answer or even refuses our requests. It is his contention that in contrast many of us try to manipulate or bargain with God often by trying to find out what prayer or combination of prayers will get God to give us the things we desire or help us gain control over our lives and the lives of those we interact with in life.

Steve Brown goes even deeper, exposing how our innate need to control or take over control when we feel God is not there for us short-circuits God's plans for us. He relates quite a bit of relevant scripture including how Jesus tried to teach much of this in His parables and testimony while on earth. He examines the Lord's Prayer which was given to us by Christ as an example of how to pray, not what to pray. In doing so Mr. Brown identifies the key concepts behind the prayer millions have adopted as their prayer, when in actuality they are more often than not just lackadaisically repeating words.

Mr. Brown encourages us to open our hearts and minds in prayer and share our doubts, our fears, our pain, our sin, and our shame because, as it is written, nothing is hidden from God anyway. He just wants to hear it acknowledged by us. Through this confession as well as by relinquishing control and listening for God to speak to us, we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives and bring about what is good for us and to develop spiritual attitudes and outward manifestations of our salvation and growth as believers.

I find this book easy to read and hard to put down. I've had it for half a day and have already read half of it. It feels like Mr. Brown is sitting in the room talking to me. I have read some other books regarding prayer and how to pray, but this one is the best I've read so far. I'm new to faith and Christianity and this makes me feel more deserving and willing to carry on the every important conversations with God. I highly recommend reading this book to new Christians.

Words can hardly describe! If you are wanting a closer walk, a deeper relationship, but don't know how to go about it, this book is for you! Bravo, Steve Brown! You took the "scary" and the "guilt" out of approaching God, yet the approach is as reverent and worshipful as ever. In light of the WTC bombing, I am ever so mindful of what Steve Brown reminds us in the context of this book; i.e., the victory is already ours! I will keep this book for life. ...

Well, the only reason anyone would need this book is if they were trying to understand the concepts of literature or if they were planning to write. AH, and if they are, this book is a CRUCIAL STUDY. As an English Major, I encountered WAY TOO MANY critiques that are based on absurd marxist theories. Remember, literature reflects a SPECIFIC TIME, PLACE, AND ERA! I am a devout Anglican and I DO NOT shun Hawthorne's work because much of it is Anti Anglican. I understand that Hawthorne was reflecting an Anti Anglican Period in America. It is absurd to judge literature harshly because it does not fall into contemporary political slots whatever they may be at the moment. This book by Aristotle is a concise, focused, and appropriate look at the concept of literature. He emphasizes the need of close conflicts as opposed to hero versus enemy. He also makes it clear that writing must have recognition and/or reversal at some point. Also, he states the need for surprise events. Another thing he does is he helps us see that some events may be important, but it is better to mention them instead of displaying them. He also stresses the need for characters to play on our fear or pity. While this is more of a reference book, it belongs in the library of any student of literature.

I loved this text! It is amazing and lyrical, an incomparable read! It now lives next to my bed, so that whenever I get the need I can read an extract (even at 2am) without having to search through the library for it.

This book (or perhaps just a portion of Aristotle's lecture notes) remains the acorn of an oak of subjects, from art criticism to writing screenplays. This is a clear, accurate translation (it helped me pass a test in Ancient Greek; and people who really know assure me). The text is no-frills and the introduction is brief but informative. This is probably not for scholars who will want to quibble over the meaning of 'phusis' and 'techne' but for the general reader who will be infinitely enriched by a philospical masterwork. If you have to read this for a class you will find it infinitely less punishing than Nietzsche, for example.

With a background similiar to Stephen Dustin's, I've seen a lot of techno-thriller military based action novels fall flat due to enormous technical mistakes. Dustin's knowledge and experience culminate in Atomic Fossils and bring us a taut, enagaging thriller. His locations are original and unique, his characters are human, and the action is well-described and breathless to read. Couple all this with a slam-bang climax, and you have a great way to spend an afternoon. Highly Recommended.

Mr. Dustin writes with the technical authority of someone on the inside of the military-industrial complex and the compassion of a father contemplating the ultimate sacrifice of his own family. His characters are complex and human, the technical setting is credible and crisp, the premise of the story is real enough to be frightening, and the stunning conclusion will leave you shaken. This is a fine novel and a worthy addition to the "Tom Clancy" genre of techno-dramas. This appears to be Mr. Dustin's first published work - we will all be richer if it is not his last.

I hit gold on this one! What a great story. Technical credibility, mind-tingling fantasy, and characters that feel like people you know. I burned through this one in three sittings. I hope Dustin is almost done with his second story!
