experience and understand the gospel as a group
The first few chapters are hard going and it will take a leader experienced with the bible, studying hard to get through but after a little while the book moves on to the heart of the gospel and everyone will be blessed. John Stott writes leading questions that facilitate conversation and lead to easy study.

Very thorough, very encouraging!
Stott does a great job (as usual) in this very thorough study on the book of Romans. He covers all of the major issues and themes in the book with scholarly integrity. At the same time he masterfully encourages the true believer as to the power of a sovereign God and the value of a true believer. It's not the lightest reading but it is well worth the effort.

Guarding the Holy Fire: The Evangelicalism of John R.W. Stott, J.I. Packer, and Alister McGrath

Anglican Evangelicals in Perspective.
Have you ever wondered where Anglican Evangelicalism comes from? Here's the answer. Roger Steer's book gives an historical overview of the Evangelical movement from its roots in the Reformation through the great revival of the Wesleys and Whitefield to the situation today. It even takes a look at what the future may hold for Evangelicals. The only weakness of the book is its failure to talk about Bishop Meade and the antebellum Diocese of Virginia which was the core of the older sort of Evangelicalism in the USA. Otherwise it is an excellent and informative survey of Anglican Evangelicalism in the USA and England.

Thorough overview of Anglican Evangelicalism.
This is a good book, but the title is somewhat misleading. One thinks the book is going to be about Stott, Packer & McGrath, whereas it is a history of the Evangelical wing of Anglicanism from the pre-Reformation period to the present. Covers a lot of ground some of which is repetitive, but provides a solid overview of the topic. The section on Lambeth & sexuality questions is especially good.

Does you church need more love and unity??
This bible study focuses on the church of Thessalonica and Paul's relationship with them as Apostle, Pastor, Parent... The church was being persecuted and struggling with false teachers therefore Paul lovingly rebukes (idlesness), teaches (apostolic authority in rebuking and teaching the truth, for instance in regard to the second coming of christ) and encourages them to stand firm and in unity, spread the gospel to all nations.

Breif and excelent explanation for the authorirty of Bible
John Stott doesn't need much word to blow out the lies about the authority of the Bible. This small book can help all the people who can hardly believe that the Bible is the very God's written Word. And the book is so small that you don't have to spend much time. 30 minute's reading will make your doubts banish away.

Review of John Stott : The Making of a Leader
John Stott, The Making of A Leader, The Early Years, by Timothy Dudley-Smith. Downers Grove: InterVarsity Press, 1999, 526 pages.

This, the first volume of the first full length biography of John R. W. Stott, will set the standard of excellence for the many biographies which will follow. Timothy Dudley-Smith's excellent biography paints a complete portrait of the public and private life of one of the greatest Christian leaders of the last one hundred years. Dudley-Smith draws extensively from Stott's diaries, letters and books and from interviews with both friends and adversaries. He captures the formative experiences that have shaped the life and ministry of John Stott.

Arranged in sections covering ten year increments from the 1920s through the 1950s, the chapters within each section relate key friendships, public challenges and personal struggles. These engaging accounts bring into view a compelling story of the forces that have shaped and which drive Stott.

Far from the doting account of a saintly life by an admiring follower, Dudley-Smith frankly describes Stott's struggles and doubts as well as the excitement of his expanding ministry. Directness and sensitivity mark the recounting of Stott's lifelong rivalry with his sister and the years of alienation from his father. His concern for his local congregation at All Souls Church in London as he begins evangelistic tours of Great Britain, the United States, Autrailia and Africa reveal his pastor's heart and sensitivity.

The first volume of this biography projects a three dimensional picture of a man of God. Don't wait for the companion volume, not due out for at least another two years, before reading this book. This account of a contemporary Christian will hearten and challenge you.

The message of Galatians
Published in Unknown Binding by Inter-Varsity P. ()
Author: John R. W. Stott
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Classic exposition by Stott
There is no doubt that Galatians can be a little difficult to read. But with Stott by your side, the process is surely alot easier. Stott's work (in lines with the aims of the Bible Speaks Today series) is readable by the layperson and immensely understandable - though it may be lacking the scholarship expected by the theological student. The book draws out the key themes of this great book of the Bible, particularly the key issue of salvation by grace through faith. Highly recommended.

Excellent Study Guide for Hosea
This prophet of love and typology is well served by outstanding OT scholar Derek Kidner.

Balanced and biblical based study companion to this minor prophet. Background and Hebrew translation help with vital words to this book such as "chesed" and "ruchamah" are handled accurately.

Maps and addenda will aid the user. Highly recommended.

Easy to read and apply
While both are excellent, compared to the Tyndale NT volume on the Pastorals, this (Bible Speaks Today) volume is quite different.

It has a less 'scholarly' audience, lacking baggage such as discussions of authorship and so on. Stott's style is easy going and thought provoking.

Having the text (from the Bible) in line with the commentary means it is easy to carry around as well - it is a complete package, great for reading on the train...

Well suited to personal study.

Cultural Insights from around the World
Chandler provides some unique cultural windows into the worldwide church. An intriguing and useful read.

good for global mind...
The book contains little snippets of Christianity from cultural perspectives... saying that culture strenghtens certain aspects of Christianity as opposed to diluting it. It truly opened my eyes to thinking in a global sense about God's love... made John 3:16 come to life as God loves the "world" and not just the little bubble that so many of us westerners live in.

Bart LCSW
A simplistic piece of Biblical propaganda. Ignores the reality of long, committed, and rewarding homosexual relationships. As a psychotherapist (already suspect to the Christian Right) this serves as continued avoidance of the question "did God create homosexuals?" This topic is simply to confusing for the rigid "black and white thinking fundamentalist Christian" I hope people interested in the subject will also research more scientific based literature for balance. I am the person who treats your children after their suicide attempts. For their sake, I hope the reader will broaden their scope.

Poor Attempt from Super Author
John Stott is one of my favorite authors. He is a respected theologan and commentator. John Stott's book The Cross of Christ is a classic book.

Unfortunately, this book falls far short of the theological rigor one expects of John Stott. He takes a complex theological and scriptural issue and treats it in simplistic terms, without giving adequate coverage of the issue.

This book is a sad disappointment. It is hardly worth reading and is definitely not worth purchasing.

Gracious, solidly Biblical, concise, and readable
I just read Stott's work on same sex unions. In the middle of all of the foggy vocabulary and doctrine that is being created these days around this issue, Stott has done a wonderful job of cutting through that fog like a powerful lighthouse, showing the way for individuals and churches so that they will not crash upon the rocks of falsehood. It is important to remember that heresy sounds wise, otherwise no one would succumb to it (2 Cor. 11:13-15; 1 Tim. 4:1-2; Eph. 4:14-15; Col. 2:23). Stott has truely done his work as a Pastor and a teacher in the wider body of Christ (Eph. 4:11-16). I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether they are struggling with this issue, know someone who is, or are just in need of a short, but solid Biblical exposition on the subject. It would be great supplimental reading for a Bible college or seminary class in contemporary issues.
