Spanish language version of the first pf the phenomenal Harry Potter series. An English lad embarks upon a life of magic and wizardry in a special school dedicated to that end. A fabulous read, it not only holds one's attention, but at the same time greatly enhanced my grasp of Spanish. It serves to entertain while reinforcing Spanish language skills. I recommend it to children of all ages who have any background in Spanish.

The Scarlet Seed concludes the trilogy begun with The Heaven Tree and The Green Branch. The quote above comes near the end of the book, where young Harry broods over the destruction of his father's church, then sees how the stones from it are not only being used to rebuilt war-ravaged homes but are inspiring new artists.

After being Isambard's prisoner for two years, Harry begins to see his captor's political position weakening; but Harry has begun to understand that his imprisonment has taught him to face an enemy without fear and honed his sense of honor. He realizes that he owes something to Isambard, and when an enemy blinds him, he helps Isambard conceal it as long as possible as his brother William tries to usurp Parfois. But when Isambard's former mistress Benedetta arrives at Parfois to try to negotiate Harry's release, William takes Isambard and Benedetta prisoner. Harry escapes and persuades Llewelyn of Wales to attack Parfois. In the beseiged fortess plague is suspected, and Benedetta and Isambard are locked in the church Harry's father built to die. The church is destroyed during the battle.

After the tragedy and catharsis of these events, Pargeter's meditation on the eternal nature of art is easy to skim over, but should be read carefully; here she ties together her themes and shows how creation is never wasted -- "Eyes that have once seen it see all things differently thereafter, having learned the measure of wholeness."

I work in the mentally handicapped room of an elementary school and we were doing a unit on Harry Potter. The kids were entranced with the story as I read it to them, but they wanted pictures. Does this ever fill the bill!! There is a picture for every major event. The see through pages color beautifully. The publisher suggested markers so the pictures could be placed in a window and look like stained glass. I was going to put mine in a book so I used colored pencils and they turned out great. I recommend this highly. If you want more pictures get the other stained glass coloring book too. I did!

You do not have to be a Cubs fan to thoroughly enjoy this book about Harry Caray. His antics and love of baseball make this a terrific read! Some of the tales are hilarious and some will make you shake your head in disbelief. But it's all Harry. Steve Stone and Barry Rozner captured his true character with affection and humor. You're gonna want this in your home library!

Don't think that you need to be a Cubs' fan to enjoy this book.

I actually chose to read this book for a class paper on great American journalists. I had a hard time convincing my professor that Harry was indeed a journalist and not simply an entertainer. After thoroughly enjoying this book, I think I convinced the prof - I got a 99% on the paper.

If you have a love for the game of baseball, you will surely find this book entertaining. As someone now in sports communications with a professional baseball team, I recommend this book to all my co-workers. It's a great way to learn about aspects of the game that most fans would never know about - and it's about a guy everyone feels they already know.

Perhaps one of the most disappointing things about biographies is that they somehow tarnish the memory or reputation of the book's subject. This book will simply make you love Harry even more.

I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't put it down. Not only did it bring back some wonderful memories, but I found myself laughing out loud almost constantly. Steve Stone did a wonderful job. Thank you Steve for sharing your stories with us!

I love the Harry Potter books. I've read all of them, and I am currently reading the 2nd book in Spanish to my sutdents. I already read Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal to them. I will say I was not all that pleased with the translation, but overall, the story is good and I wanted to give my students the opportunity to meet Harry Potter and his wonderful world. They are as excited about it as I am, but I will say that it would be difficult for them to understand if I were not guiding them through it. My students range from ages 9 to 11 and are Spanish speakers. Many of the words they have never heard such as zumo, mazmorras, zaino, etc. We are using every bit possible as a learning experience. Overall, I can say that difficult or not, it's great the Spanish speakers can have the opportunity to read such a wonderful story.

I had read the complaints about the translation, and so I didn't buy it, but it is now at our local library in Spanish! Ha! And I wondered, is my Spanish good enough to read this book? And is my Harry Potter quotient high enough to smooth that over? Will I even understand why people don't think the translation is great (since I had not seen any specific criticisms)? After reading through it (and only stumbling over what it is Mr. Dursley sells for a living -- I'll never forget "taladros" now!), I can pinpoint what I think the weaknesses are. Tiny flourishes are left out. The vocabulary used isn't as rich as the English. There are small interpretive errors (Filch is the one who says "Bien, bien, bien ..." when he catches Harry and Hermione out of bed, not Harry). But I think the Spanish language publishers did not understand how wide a target audience was available to them. It's a children's book, right? How complicated does it have to be? As the "Piedra filosofal" stands now, it's ... enchanting! I would recommend it for a classroom where students can see the use of real grammar in sentences they might actually enjoy reading or as a gift for the Pottermaniac in your home who is waiting waiting waiting for the next installment.

As you can see, my Spanish is not very good anymore; the only practice I get is from reading books which were originally written in Spanish or have been translated, as was Harry Potter. For those of you who are interested in beefing up on your grasp of the Spanish language, I highly recommend these books. Although they will be difficult at times, it is still a great read, especially if you have the patience to take your time with the novel. [If you want to read it quickly and easily, try the English version; it's just as good!] Reading a book that is as good as this one makes learning the language so much better, as I'm sure you're aware.

The hero of the story is Harry, a kid who's entire life has been spent in a cupboard under the stairs, being raised by relatives who don't love him at all. One day he finds out he's really a wizard, and has been accepted at Hogwart's, the greatest school for wizards in the world. When he enters the wizarding world, adventures just seem to jump into his lap. It's a great story for all ages!

Ok, I have been a Harry Potter fan since I read the English version, so I decided to try my luck at the French version, as French is another one of my favorite hobbies. Now, I am only a second year French student, but I could understand quite a bit of the story, and it really is fun to read. I would definitely suggest to all my fellow French-speakers out there, who happen to love Harry Potter or only want to see what the craze is all about, to try the French series. It's fun and helps you learn French! And for those that are familar with the English version, I would suggest getting a translation sheet from the Internet, because some of the names have been changed, and they are found through search engines and are free! Just try this, good luck and enjoy!

J.K. Rowling's novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the series. Each novel revolves around Harry Potter and his life as he goes through wizard school. Although it makes this book more interesting it is not necessary to read the previous books in the series in order to comprehend this book. Rowling writes in a fashion that provides adequate information, allowing the book to stand alone.
The novel opens by telling about the mysterious death of a family, the Riddles. The suspect was the house caretaker,Frank, but nothing was ever proven. Despite the fact that the house is empty Frank still maintains it and one evening he sees something odd occuring in the house. He goes inside and encounters Lord Voldemort and Wormtail. Voldemort is the enemy of Harry Potter and is out to get him. From this point on Voldemort and his accomplice set out on the mission to capture Harry Potter and destroy him after they get what they need from him. Harry Potter is an extraordinary wizard and has previously defeated Lord Voldemort, and now he seeks revenge. The plot covers every event in Harry's fourth year at Hogwart's School of Wizardry and finally a battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort, which makes for an exciting ending.
Rowling's style of writing is so entertaining and fun , that any age reader can enjoy it. Even though the characters are imaginary, Rowling brings Harry and the others to life in her novel. I would recommend this novel to anyone. It is a great read and will definitely hold your attention.

Much has been made of the Harry Potter series. Here in the UK the hype has been almost at fever-pitch with the publication of the latest in the series. With all the fuss, and my nephew an enthusiastic reader of these books I thought I'd find out for myself whether the accolade was appropriate.

Adults, friends of mine amongst them, have read the book for themsleves (as opposed to reading it aloud to their offspring) and while I decided I wouldn't be seen reading it on a train, I would do so in the evenings.

It's very readable. Rowling manages the difficult balance between readability pitched at a young age and a fairly complex plot. My own love of literature was nurtured on Enid Blyton's Famous Five books, the style and grammatical content of which are execrable. I found this to my cost when trying to read them aloud to my children many years ago and began to realize why many libraries in the UK had banned her from their lists. Rowling's construction, on the other hand, is excellent and reads well aloud. I understand that her later novels in the series are even better, interweaving more complexity for 'older' appeal into the work. This may well encourage me to borrow the next novel from my long-suffering nephew.

Rowling also doesn't fall into the trap of dishing up cheesy humour for the youngsters but opts rather more for a nascent dry humour which is more stylish and may well prepare youngsters for a more advanced appreciation of humorous literature.

The characters are reasonably three-dimensional for a children's novel, and the story-line holds up well for the most part. Her inventiveness in the paraphernalia of the magic world, and in particular the game of Quidditch is particularly to be commended. There is even a moral message in this novel, one of not judging too hastily who is one's friend and who is one's enemy, an excellent topic for human cubs developing interpersonal skills without guidance.

The content is, however, very British (I almost said English but she's Welsh) and I can see where some references might need explanation to American readers, but this will not detract from the novel's enjoyability.

In summary, then, an excellent read for 9 to 13 year-olds, an amusing read for adults and pleasantly engaging to read aloud to young family members.

A hit.

This is the best book of the Harry Potter series so far! When Hagrid tells Harry that he is a wizard it's just so exiting for him and you don't know what is going to happen. I think it would be so good to be told you're a wizard (or a witch) and be famous too. J.K. Rowling is a really fantastic author! She makes up the most interesting names for the people and places, like platform nine and three quarters. My favourite character is Ron Weasley. Also I like his pet rat Scabbers! I'd like to taste the lollies and food in the wizard and witch world and especially butterbeer. I think it was interesting how you didn't know what was going to happen next. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone is truly the best book in the series so far, in my opinion! I would recommend it to anyone from the age of six to sixty and over! J.K. Rowling is the best author to come up with a book that would be loved so much all around the world. Keep up the good work and keep writing those Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling!

Anyone looking at this won't find anything new, Potterhead or not. I was severely unimpressed by the trailer for this upcoming movie, but the poster book is even less interesting.

Several of the posters consist of headshots of the characters, underlaid by rather flat photos of secondary characters, minor characters, or secondary sets. As virtually everyone now knows what the Harry, Ron, and Hermione actors look like, I was hoping to see clear pix of people like Malfoy and McGonagall. Nope--we're given several headshots of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Other elements were previously glimpsed in the trailer, such as the goblin; others were badly defined, such as the Forbidden Forest. The brooms in Quidditch training look like they'e about to snap in half. And, connected to my complaint about the trailer, no Voldemort.

Not all were bad, as we get a better look at Hagrid and Dumbledore (who looks like Gandalf on Halloween). We are also given a glimpse of Ron's rat; additionally, we are given a glimpse of Harry and Ron laughing and joking together. I know now that the kid playing Harry Potter looks much more endearing when he smiles, rather than the ultra-solemn look.

Buy this book only if you're a die-hard Potterhead, otherwise you'll be utterly uninterested.

The "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie Poster Book" is pretty much ideal in terms of contents and price for the kids who wants to plaster Harry, Ron and Hermione on their bedroom wall. Just be sure to show your kid how to take out the staples instead of standing by and watching them rip the book apart. Some kids will want a big poster on the wall, but most are going to be happier having these much better shots of the main trio of Hogsworth students. Think of it this way: You get 15 good sized posters for what it would cost you for one 8x10 glossy of your favorite character. Admittedly this was geared towards being a promotional item and not giving away too much of the film, but there does not seem to be a second poster book now that the film is in theaters and the first several hundred millions are in the bank. From the smile on Maggie's face she did not seem bothered by this book's shortcomings (I am informed she will be marrying Ron) and that is all that really matters.

What can I say? I'm a Potter fanatic, and I jumped to buy the Movie Poster book as soon as it came out. The posters are beautifully done and cover a wide range of scenes. There are headshots of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, a scene from Gringotts, and even Ron and Harry at Christmas.

If you have seen the first and second trailors for the film, then you won't being seeing many new things. That's why I only gave it 4 stars. Personally, I think that it is worth getting the Poster Book just to see the first picture released of Harry in his Quidditch uniform. I also enjoyed a shot of Dumbledore visiting Harry in the Hospital Wing.

The casting for the film was excellent, and the pictures in the book only support that fact. Each character matches the wonderful descriptions that JK Rowling provides in all four books.

As I said before, your not seeing much new, but the book is money well spent. This way you don't have to wait 2 hours to download the trailor or pay for a movie ticket just to see the trailor! It will be there in your library to view again and again.

This is a really beautiful calendar. The pictures are stunning and all have a matching quote from the book. The lower part of the calendar continues the Harry Potter theme including small pictures of things like galleons and wands. Two of the best pictures are of Dumbledore visiting Harry in the infirmary & Harry's first flying lesson, but they're all fantastic. The calendar blocks are a very light tan color and will make anything written their very easy to read. A great purchase for any Harry Potter fan.

As Harry Potter fans anxiously await the release of the fifth book in the series, this Harry Potter calendar will undoubtedly feed the seemingly insatiable hunger for Potter merchandise of any kind that has struck readers of all ages. Building on the success of the long-awaited theatrical release of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," this wall calendar features twelve important scenes from the actual movie with captions superimposed on the pictures in a stylish font. The chosen scenes track the progression of the plot throughout the movie (and the first book.) The pictures themselves are colorful, elegant, and very large; in fact, the entire calendar is about one and a half times the size of a standard wall calendar, but I prefer it this way. As long as you have room to hang it up, the bigger the better! There is also plenty of room in which to mark noteworthy dates and events. I originally purchased this calendar for a friend, but once I saw how intriguing it was, I knew I had to have one for myself. I will definitely be happy to have this Harry Potter calendar hanging on my wall throughout the year 2002 as I, too, eagerly wait for the next book. And seeing as how Potter-mania is sweeping the globe, I'm sure that any other fan of Harry Potter will be delighted to own this calendar as well!

This calendar is a great one. It have great pictures of the motion picture; the great hall, Gringott's Bank, the libiary, Madam Hooch, Professor Qurriel, Hagrid, Dumbuldore ect. and in the photo apear lines about the picture taken from the book.
It's a great gift for birthday, holiday or whatever reason for a great Harry Potter FAN.

My 3 year old "loves" all things Harry Potter, especially since big brother does. Have been looking foward to something that was more on his level for him to enjoy. The book is very nice. He enjoys the pop up and action tabs. The artwork is nice. I was very disappointed that it has no words at all! A little story would have been nice. He does, however, enjoy the book and is very proud to have is "own" Harry Potter book.

I only wish there was a wee bit more of the story in it. But I LOVED it!

The book spell about a boy named Harry potter, who discover a new wolrd whem a guardian said to him tha he is a wizard. So, when the year begins, he make frinds and enemies, he learn magic stuff and how to play the famous quiddich. But he has to face his post to, because the worst wizard, Lord Voldemort wants to kill him. Tis book show the diference between the good and the evil, about friendship, confidence and love. Read it, you will like!
