There are plenty of astronomy books for amatuers with fantastic photos. And sometimes it can be intimidating to know what to buy. Burnham's book is worth every penny (and it doesnt cost much either). It does not contain colorful photos (though contains plenty of b&w photos taken from Lowell/Palomar and other observatories). All 88 constellations are dealt with in detail. First a list of double stars are given in each constellation followed by details of each bright star (including spectrum analysis for some). The book is set in "type-writer" font, so it gives a special feeling of reading some research paper.
A unique feature of this book, which is probably not found in any other astronomy book I have come sofar, is that, it also contains a perspective of a given constellation or star by several different cultures. Most astronomy books stop with Greek and Roman myths - giving a feeling that no other culture was knowledgeable in astronomy. Coming from Indian background, I found it very intriguing that Burnham mentions several stories and myths from Indian folklore (including those that I heard from my granny!). For eg, Varahamihira (c 100 AD?) in his "Brihat Samhita" compares Ursa Major (aka called "Seven Sages") to string of pearls. I was surprised to see Burnham mention this.
One other way I use the book is to first locate some star in the telescope (by lazily moving it around), notice the color, constellation and other characteristics, then look into the book about the details and compare with what you saw. Thats a fun way of learning.
Though more experienced astronomers would observe that some Burnham's values are of older epoch, this should not really bother a beginner. Burnham has certainly packed a wealth of information into three volumes. Again this is a book that will accompany for life on observing the wonders that are up above the sky.

Now, from what I can tell, everyone in Klah is angry at Skeeve for raising taxes. Does that mean that he's the king or still just a financial advisor?
This is supposed to be a review, isn't it? Oops. Sorry. This is a great series. Go out and buy all 10 books right now. If your anything like me, you should have them all read in about a week; you can't stop reading them!
I think I might have written too much. I'll stop now. Bye.
I it very unfortunate that there will be only two more books. I really hope that dear Robert A. would reconsider, or surprise us with at least one more book after that!

Remarkably, the information inside is aging very well. While it doesn't cover the most current version of Samba, this book is by far the most informative and helpful on the subject available.
While the book is fortified with examples, screenshots, and an easy to read style, by far my favorite portion is on troubleshooting (complete with a "fault tree"). It is just a way of systematically approaching connectivity problems in relation to the samba server.
I mean, really, what exactly is "System error 53?" This book won't tell you outright, but it will help narrow down the problem to solvable proportions.
The included CDROM also includes a mirror to the official Samba FTP site, including sources, binaries, documentation, and utilities.
When I have Samba configuration problems, or questions pop up about Samba, this is the book I reach for. If pressed for time and pressed for answers by coworkers, I have been known to pull it off the shelf and lend it out.
Not so with this book. Prior to reading this book, I had no experience with Samba whatsoever. Before long, I found myself setting up Samba on a linux server and setting up file shares to Win2k systems. The massive smb.conf configuration file no longer looks menacing, but rather, its easy to read now.
I see why this has been adopted by the Samba team. Its very easy to read, very relaxing in its pace, and very thorough in its treatment of Samba topics. I do not believe there is a more comprehensive on Samba to date. Even the reference sections in the back are very nicely organized, and very easy to use.
What really tops this book off though is its treatment of Windows networking. For those who have little or no understanding of Windows and how networks are organized, this book covers the topic very well. Unix/Linux administrators will be glad they read this chapter.
In closing, I strongly recommend this book to Network Administrators, particularly those using Unix/Linux. This book is very comprehensive, but very easy to read.
This book has screen shots -- a lot of them. This book has examples -- a lot of them. This book has very easily followed writing that tells you how to set up your Linux and Windows machines and how to get Samba going. The book sits down with you, rolls up your sleeves, and shows you how to progress in a way that yeilds desired results -- Samba installs and works on your network! It blends instruction with just the right amount of background explanation without forcing you to read page after page of useless, smothering detail. A lot of authors would be well advised to achieve this kind of balance in computer books and darn few succeed. I had my Windows box talking to my Linux box via Samba in just a day. I spent about 2 weeks going over the book and studying my existing Windows network before making any software changes whatsoever.
This book offers a comprehensive networking fault tree people new to networking will find extremely useful. Follow this fault tree and you will be able to correct general networking problems as well as specific Samba problems. When I had networking problems back when I first got into Linux with Red Hat 6.0, I could have fixed them with this book's fault tree. It would have saved me hours of frustration to have worked through this book's fault tree.
I think everyone wanting to connect Linux boxes to Windows boxes should rush to order this book and then spend 2 weeks reading it cover to cover before messing with ANY network settings. You will be rewarded for your money and patience with results and a feeling of genuine accomplishment.
I've noticed a trend in Linux books where the authors like to waste space and reader's time with useless banner "warnings" and sometimes repetitive moralizing. Some writers print warnings every 2 pages and sound as bad as hoax emails. Well you won't find many warnings in Using Samba. They are worth reading when found.
As far as I can see, there are only 2 bad points about this book and you can't blame the authors for them: unless it is lovingly revised in a new edition, increasing rollouts of Windows 2000 will rapidly obsolete the excellent Samba advice you can get here. As of this writing (August 2000), Windows Millenium Edition will be available to consumers September 14, and depending on sales this may help obsolete the book also. The second bad point is that Samba has not gone into a new version which can deal with Windows 2000 and Millenium Edition yet. It is still stuck at 2.0.7. Hopefully the Samba team will release a new version in the near future covering Windows 2000. And I sure hope The Samba Book, as it is called, is revised to cover the new Windows products!

I simply LOVED this book. Reading these stories reinforced my already existing belief that True Love REALLY does exist... but more importantly... it reinforces my belief that Love (or True Love) need not last a lifetime, but can actually be brief moments in time... even minutes.
I enjoyed reading all the stories and I enjoyed the Hope that these stories instilled in me. The great thing is... these stories are REAL. They really happened!!! So if you're the type of person who reads romance novels and thinks, "This stuff isn't real." you'll soon learn that some of those unbelievably sweet stories really do happen.
These stories are so amazing and breathtaking... we could all be so lucky to have a story such as those within these pages to call our own. I'm still looking for my One True Love... who knows... after reading "True Love"... it could actually happen.

Robert Woodcox is a golf genius, if there is such a thing. His accounts of what he has gone through so far in his "golfing career" is hilarious. Every golfer will be able relate to what he writes. However, this may not be such a great thing. Not everything a golfer does or thinks is something to be proud of.
If you golf, know someone who golfs, or just want to laugh at human nature, then buy this book. It is one of the best books I've ever read. If he played half as well as he writes, he'd be a scratch golfer.

This worthy biography depicts with subdued insight the Frank family's relationships. I was particularly touched while reading about the Franks' love and concern for their two daughters, and by the inclusion of several letters from the Franks to extended family members, particularly those exchanged between Otto Frank and his mother.
Throughout the book, Muller's interest in the subject matter is evident and her unsensational interpretation of events rings true. The translation is flawless and the text is woven together seamlessly. All in all, this biography triumphs as one of the most well-written biographies I have read.
I agree with Miep Gies' statement at the end of the book: Anne's life does not, as some writers and historians have suggested, symbolize the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust, because her life was hers alone. Millions of individual lives were tragically and cruelly ended. After reading this book, I feel privileged to have had a poignant glimpse into one of these lives.

1. The author sometimes scatter important notes of same topic in different section and never repeat. You want to read this book carefully and word by word.
2. Some topics are not very detail for a beginner. For example, the medical treatment for desease dont not cover the appropriate dosage or treatment time. For filtration system, it does not recommand which type of filter capacity is suitable for certain size of aquarium.
3. Many spices of fish and invertabrates have no picture in this book to help you identify them
4. This book is a must for any one who just started a marine aquarium but may not be enough for experienced aquarist
Overall, I still give this book 5 star for giving so much experienced advices that my marine aquarium is finally sucessful.
I might repeat the cliche' "If you read only one book about marine fishkeeping..." But the fact is, until you get to really exotic reefs and invertebrates, you only NEED to read one book - This one.

The above review was written quite some time ago, and I'm making this addendum because I now have a relationship with Mr. Fenner (I work on his website(s)) and I think it's important to disclose that - also because Amazon finally added this 'edit' feature! Also important though, I now believe that "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta is possibly a better beginner's book. I still think Bob's CMA (as it is called by insiders) is the "One Book". But if you plan on having -more- than one, and you're looking for your first, you might check out Paletta's, it's a shade easier to digest than the all-powerful CMA. [grin]

As a caterer looking to open a restaurant I also found the book very helpful. I didn't need recipes or help in sales - I needed help in running the financial aspects of my business. The chpater on computers was very helpful as well. The book is very easy to read and understand. Complicated accounting subjects are simplified, easy to understand and ( almost) fun to apply.
The books nineteen chapters cover the entire process of a restaurant start-up and ongoing management. The companion CD rom which contains all the forms is worth the modest price of the book alone. I would highly recomend this book to anyone in the industry now or who wants to get started with sound financial planning. Also the extensive resource guide in the back of the book helped me locate a manufacturer I needed a part from - I will use this book often.
