Waste
I was excited to buy this book but very let down when I got it. Don't waste you money.

Good read....if you ignore the opinionated tone....
Mr. Elie has written a book that cuts a wide swathe through the regional barbecue landscape. While some of the information is good, and the book does provide a curious read, the regional nature of barbecue lends to the book's inadequacy. What any student of regional foodways should understand is that food traditions cannot be subject to a single standard. Especially a standard levied by an outsider. Unfortunately, Elie proceeds to "damn" local barbecue joints for their poor food, despite the high regard the restaurant holds in the local community. Mr. Elie's culinary arrogance extends not only to judgments on food, but he extends a patronizing attitude towards many of the people he meets, including a truly offensive treatment of the speech patterns of the Gullah in the SC lowcountry. While a moderately curious read, it will not remain on my shelf.

A trip through barbeque country
This is one great book. I love it so much, I bought another copy "just in case". The writing is superb, the photography is amazing, and from a Q-fanatic with literally hundreds of barbeque books, this one is my very favorite.

Who this book really helps
Many of the above reviews are contradictory... Here's the scoop as I see it... THIS BOOK: MULTIVARIABLE CALC is for the last several chapters (13-18)... Much of Calc III covers atleast 13 and 14... If you are in Calc I or II, use the SINGLE VARIABLE Solutions manual (Chapters 1-12)... Just straightening things out... Hope this helps!

Great
Unbelievable solution manual. Shows how to work out problems, so you don't want to burn your book after working for three hours on change of variable triple integrals, etc. A definite must for the last few chapters of the Stewart book.

Excellent Book
This book is a guide of Chapters 11 to the end of the Stewart Transcendental Calculus book. It is just as good as the single version edition, with clear answers that are well drawn out.

Standard Textbook-Good for the Fundamentals, but not Clairty
James Stewart's book is one of the several standard textbooks in single and multivariable calculus circulating in the marketplace. If you wish to learn the calculus rigourously, then this is the book to work through. However, it is not for the faint-hearted so far as mathematics is concerned; it is very dense and rigorous in many areas, filled with abstract definitions based on set theory (something nonmathematicians no doubt will have a hard time with). It also has many difficult and seemingly unsolvable problems, especially with the tedious integration drills with trig functions; once you understand you can easily find most of these exotic integrals using CAS or tables, you wonder what all the effort was for. The multivariable calculus and differential equations sections are thorough, and Stewart's treatment of vectors and vector calculus is surprisingly fresh and clear of jargon.

On the positive side, the book is filled with many fascinating problems and projects related to the 'real' world, ranging from psychology to physics and astronomy. Interesting computational projects include proving Kepler's laws from Newton's gravity, the flight of a baseball, the calculus of rainbows, how to split a pizza the most effecient way, designing a dumpster with the most area and so on. Anyone with a heart for applied mathematics will not be dissapointed, nor those who demand rigor, given each theorem is carefully defined, and many rigorously proved.

In summary, it is a standard, solid textbook that will provide a solid foundation for further studies in maths and the sciences. Its main drawback is its difficulty and rather formidable complexity and rigor (I would recommend starting calculus using an easier, more intuitive text like Kline or the Schaum's outlines series on calculus) which make it slow and heavy going for the nonmathematician. It is also not the best place to quickly learn the 'basics' of calculus for say, physics or engineering; for that I'd recommend 'Mathematical Techniques, 2nd Ed' by Jordan and Smith.

not exactly a very good, but the best one I've encountered
I've encounted numerous calculus books so far in my study in math. Looking back now, I have to say this is the best basic calculus book out there. It presents many critical concepts, and I encourage anyone who is thinking of studying further math to buy this book and study the concepts well.. i mean, real well. You will be rewarded.

Not for the slack student
This text book was extremely difficult to understand when I first bought it. Even after spending a significant amount of time on that book alone, calculus to me was still confusing. This is the text book I used for my computer science course. Had to drop the calculus units since I found it hard. But when I decided to jump right into Discrete Mathematics for computer science, I was forced to review through my college algebra notes. It was after I finished discrete mathematics did I finally understand the formality of Stewarts text book which made it so difficult to understand. In high school calculus text books, the language used arent so formal. In fact, reading a high school calculus text book is like reading a text book on college algebra and trigonometry. Stewarts text book require that you understand the language of proving theorems and thats what Discrete Mathematics in computer science taught me. But let me warn you that you should also thoroughly read through a text book on college algebra and trigonometry plus geometry. Combine that with Discrete Mathematics and you will see the beauty of stewarts text book.

Look at before you buy
I am currently using this book for a Business Communications class. I have to say it is by far the worst book I've used in my college career to date. I talked to one instructor who said she changed books because the examples in this book were so bad. She even went through the effort of re-designing the course just to switch books. That is how bad this book is. If the instructor you are going to take a class from recommends this book please do yourself a favor and find an instructor who has the courtesy to search for a book that will allow you to excel in this type of class. This is not the book to help you do that.

College English and Communicate
Being a college graduate from a another country, commmunicating in English has been one of the setbacks I encounter while working in the retail industry. I kept searching for materials that will help me improve in my communication. But the materials that I found were either not to my level or not emphasising on business communication. But Camp, Satterwhite and co. were able to address the issues I have been looking for. This book lays emphasis on daily communication faced in today's business world. I will recommend this book to anybody seeking on how to improve on their business communication especially for foreigners. I really liked how the dealt on the speaking aspect of communication.

Jimmy Stewart: A Dreadful Biography
This biography was short on detail and long on Mr. Sanello's supercilious and trite commentary. Mr. Stewart truly did live a wonderful life; let's hope that someday someone writes a worthy biography.

Where was the copy-editor??
This book was the pits!! Sanello was in such a rush to cash in on Mr. Stewart's death, that he did not even bother to proof-read the text. The story jumps from year to year, story to story in no reasonable order. His unsubstantiated views and opinions were intermingled between news clippings, and "reported" conversations. And to top it off, the same misguided passages are repeated throughout! My only regret: that I finished the book. But, unfortuantely, there were no books left on the shelf, and I am too big a fan of James Stewart. Next time I will know to stay away from an "instant book." Mr. Stewart would be rolling in his grave if he knew of this trash bearing his name.

A rash book about a true gentleman.
I read the book quickly and felt it was also written quickly (especially near the end). I enjoyed learning more about the wonderous Mr. Jimmy Stewart, but was disappointed in the essence of this book. I'm sure I have aided in more wealth for the author, but perhaps by writing about Mr. Stewart he has learned about the core of a true gentleman. The typos were numerous...bad writing and bad editing. But, I did receive tremendous pleasure in reading the remarks by Judy Stewart Harcourt. Her father must be proud.
