The "Bible" for Third Reich Edged Blade collectors
This overview of Third Reich Edged Weapons is a must for all collectors whether you have 1 or 100 in your collection. A very good overview of the different variations of dress daggers with clear and representative pictures of each. Also has chapters on swords, dress-bayonets, engravings, etc. The book also has a number of chapters that should be read by all collectors. Especially the one on counterfeit daggers. It is the sort of book you as a collector just can't put down and as a reference book it is worth its weight in gold. It also has a very useful listing on RZM numbers. Good thing it is card-cover because I can see wearing this book out if it was paper-back. The book could possibly have had more color photographs, and a more updated overview on values.

Works better than low carbs
By concentrating on the low GI foods the authors recommend, I've been able to keep my blood sugar stable between 80 and 120 all day and night. I'm full without feeling stuffed or sick, and I get to eat a wide range of low cost, perfectly normal foods. No more expensive snack bars or costly meat, meat, meat!

I tried low carbs and those plans didn't work for me. With low carbs, my blood sugar would tank before meals triggering horrible migrain symptoms. I don't get that any more and can just eat normally, without forcing myself to eat for fear of getting hungry and triggering a headache or the dreaded blue flashes. I really do feel so much better and my blood sugar testing clearly shows that my sugar is well controlled even after a high carb meal, provided I eat the carbs recommended in The Glucose Revolution.

I think you'll be suprised at how easy and satisfying these foods are. Normal foods. Normal eating schedule. Normal blood sugar levels. Gotta love it. This booklet is well, well worth the money. Don't hesitate to buy it.

An excellent book for a resident
I just graduated from medical school and trying to become an Ophthalmologist. Since I am not an English speaking person, it is difficult to get informations in English. However, each sections and chapters of this book is well organized and helps me to get accustomed to the medical terms in Ophthalmology. This book is easier to understand than the text books written in Japanese (I am a Japanese).

Thomas Mann: The Uses of Tradition
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (1996)
Authors: Stephen M. Reed and T. J. Reed
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Reed is the leading English-writing critic of Mann's work.
First of all, the first posted review under Reed's THOMAS MANN: THE USES OF TRADITION (2nd ed.) is not of Reed at all, but of Prater's recent biography. Reed himself has brought his now 20-year-old study up to date, and it is by far the most aesthetically, politically judicious critique of Mann's career I know of--and written by a scholar who has made significant contributions to an Anglophonic audience's understanding of Goethe, Schiller, and the Weimar classical period generally. One may regret that Oxford books cost so much (!), but in this instance the investment is well worthwhile

A Must Have Reference
This comprehensive book is a "must have" reference for those involved not only in Water Distribution Modeling but also in the field of Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering. The coverage is extensive and the book is written in a very "easy to read" style. My congratulations to Haestad Press for another outstanding publication.

A Masterpiece
This is definitely a must-have for any civil engineer involved in hydraulics, especially water modelers. I had been surprised by the quality of the previous Water Distribution Modeling book, but the Advanced edition succeeded my expectations. Its writing is very understandable and it is full of creative illustrations. The chapter about Geographic Information Systems is very well written, and after realizing who were involved in its review (ESRI's staff), I don't wonder about its content anymore.

Highly recommended.

water distribution modeling, Haestad
I highly recommend this book. I found it to be very useful. It is great to have all the information that I need in one place. The chapters on Integrating GIS and Hydraulic Modeling; and, SCADA are very informative and timely. Plus you get the added bonus of a lot of New Yorker Magazine Cartoons.

I have been a user of Haestad Products now for less than a year, yet Haestad has had a huge impact on how I do engineering. Their software, discussion groups and publications are all tops. I can't recommend this book and everthing else that Haestad does enough.

Early Christian History
This book is a printing of the Gospel of Thomas, a collection of the sayings of Jesus found with Gnostic writings in a collection known as the Nag Hammadi collection. The title of "Gospel" is rather shaky as there is no narrative and no retelling of the story of Jesus as can be found in the Synoptic Gospels.

Most of the book consists of two very scholarly articles written by Stephen Patterson and James Robinson. Both are heavily involved in biblical research and have worked extensively with the Nag Hammadi writings. The first article discusses the origins of Thomas by looking at where it may have been written and what influence it may have had. One interesting point is raised when the author goes so far as to suggest that it may have been Jesus' twin brother Judas who wrote this Gospel. He is totally speculating of course, but can you imagine the implications of this? It makes the article more interesting to read. The second article discusses how the Nag Hammadi writings were found and the enormous effort that scholars undertook to get the writings published.

The first part of the book is the actual Gospel of Thomas. Some of the sayings are pretty mysterious. One of them is, "Jesus says: Be passers-by." Passers-by to what? Sin? Pharisees and Sadducees? It is fun to contemplate what the saying means. A large amount of the sayings are recognizable from the Synoptic Gospels, although most seem to be very simplified versions of these sayings. They lack the embellishments that the Gospel writers gave to them. It is also important to note that the Gospel of Thomas is written in Coptic, a form of Greek with letters added to mimic sounds of the Egyptian language. The Coptic version is a translation from an earlier Greek source, so errors abound. Also, when the writings were found, the Egyptian tore them up to give to some of his companions. As a history student, I still cringe when I think of the damage he caused.

This is a good book with obvious implications for Christians as well as New Testament scholars. Be aware that this is a VERY scholarly work. You will find huge footnotes with titles of books written in German. The second article could be very wearisome to the non-scholar, who probably doesn't care about the numerous academic bodies that were convened to gain access to the writings. The Gospel itself is still worth reading.

Truly Has Come of Age
It does seem curious to me that the early Church saw fit to leave this Gospel out. It seems to me that it should now be included in the Canon of the official Gospels. Thomas truly has come of age and more accurately describes the mission of Christ for humanity and is more relevant for today.

Gospel of Thomas comes to life
A wonderful translation! The footnotes themselves are worth the cost of the book! Written for use by both scholars and laypeople. Anyone interested in the early roots or the future of Christianity would appreciate this book.

A FINE VIROLOGY YARDSTICK
There is hardly any significant fact about viruses that missed-out in this edition of "Fields Virology". Page after page, this sound all-inclusive reference doles out authoritative information on both viruses and viral syndromes. From taxonomy to etiology, metamorphosis to replication; the analyses of this text is grand. The same applies to its attached CD-ROM. Its practical outlook was intended to benefit both microbiologists and pathologists. Bernard Fields and his colleagues made their mark with this book. It is a great effort.
However, most botanist may not be pleased to know that little attention was paid to plant viruses. Again, many potential buyers may be demoralized by the rather high price that this virology-set demands.

Another Bible. Amazing viral world
It covers all fields of virology. Perfect and wonderful ! Easy to understand. I really recommend this book to who is involved in biology

duvida (answer)
eu gostaria de saber mais sobre o seguinte livro: Fitzpatrick's Dermatology in General Medicine by Irwin M. Freedberg (Editor), Thomas B. Fitzpatrick (Editor) Our Price: $55.00

(i'd like know something else about this book)

Very practical approach,simple,excellent illustrations
I have read this book alot during exams,an excellent book, easy to understand, too the point, excellent illustrations. I am a consultant dermatologist from Pakistan I shall be grateful if someone could donate this book for our Library!
