AOS is Neither ;)
AOS didn't just write it, he lived it. He was the embodiment of his words and as such he deserves the utmost respect. He allowed himself to be scrutinised by people such as Colin Wilson and the Occult Research Society and came out trumphs. He could do anything and chose to do nothing (literally), he created masterpieces on canvas and sold them for a couple of pounds each.

If you never read another occult book then read this or The Book of Pleasure (part of The Inferno to Zos).

A must have

May you burn in it's acquirement for your wretched Questions
With AOS, who needs no introduction as i'm sure if you have gotten this far you need no desription of this wonderment. A harsh whipping of the swine into a coral which causes an upstart. Yesss, no we're getting somewhere. This is required reading for all masters of beLIEf.

ZOS Lives!
The images in this book (created via automatic drawing) are some of the best examples of occult artwork. Just staring into the images is awakening some of the Zos Kia Cultus. Buy this book, the longer you wait the more it will cost. And unlike most aged [things], this book will always be valuable for what it is.

Magic and Mystery in The Borough (London)
Austin Spare lived an extraordinary magical life. He invented his own system pretty much from scratch after his tutelage by an old witch who could trace her lineage back to the Burning Times. This is not some new age incense and Mozart approach to the Occult, but real Magic portrayed by deep linkage to the subconscious though the amazing drawing of Austin Osman Spare.

This is one of the most extraordinary books on Magic and Art ever published. I know of nothing else that comes close. Giger and Joe Coleman pale by comparison.

Spare once said when ill that he "...would not cure himself with a charm. If you remove one evil you induce another." That statement from most would seem like an excuse. But in Spare's case, he that had casually produced thunderstorms and Elementals (leading in short order to the deaths of the two woman who had repeatedly requested he do so, against his best advice), it is a sign of the depth of his knowledge and understanding.

There are rumors, generally regarded as fact, that he and Aleister Crowley were lovers for a time. Who Knows? Sex lay at the center of both their universes. Kia became manifest as matter according to Spare due to Cosmic Loneliness. Sounds plausible enough to me. Crowley once said of transcendence that the problem with it is that: "it becomes boring after awhile."

This book also includes many sigils (of which Spare was a Master) and pragmatic information on their construction and use.

Zos' final.
This book consists of two parts. The first is a collection of short letters by Spare and Kenneth & Steffie Grant, and also bits of Kenneth Grants diaries, all written between 1949 and 1956 common era. This gives explainations of Spares magical philosophy and his art in a less enigmatic way then his writings do. The second part is The Book of Zos vel Thanatos, containing The Logomachy, The Zoëtic Grimoire: The Formulae of Zos vel Thanatos and The Living Word, all later material by Spare published here for the first time.

The book is filled to the brim with Spare's art, including some beautyful colour pictures. Spare was a major influence on contemporary magick and this book deepens one's understanding of him greatly.

Excellent
Zos Speaks! is the nicest book I own. The color plates are amazing. I have never seen a book with so many plates. This book is written so well.
