The Festivals referred to here are the ones with which we are vaguely familiar: the four seasonsal turnings (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) and the others that have been incorporated into our modern religious traditions. Spangler does a great service for us all when, throughout this book, he harks back to the truly mytho-poetic and cosmological oriings of these "moments of passing". By doing so, he helps us all make much better sense of the power and dramatic earth-story behind each one. Fortunately for the reader, Spangler goes beyond mere New Age platititudes in doing so. he brings the yee of the both the scientist and the potet, but in his own way he makes the whole journey a celebration of the wheels around which our calendars do turn.
