Mayor For a Day is about a boy who gets the chance to be the town Mayor. We have probably all wished at one time or another that we could make some rules disappear, but as Davy the young boy in this story finds out, the town turns into one big disaster. Everyone in town wants everything to go back to normal and Davy and the town learn an important lesson in citizenship and respect for the law. Citizenship is one of the many things my sons school teaches and this would be a great book for elementary schools who value the importance of good citizenship and teaching this to young children.

A wonderful book with excellent values. We live in a world where people don't always understand why we need guidelines. This book teaches that rules and guidelines are important. In each of Mr. Sommer's books he teaches positive values in a way that kids can grasp their meaning.

It's unfortunate, but the world we live in today can be scary, cruel, and tricky to children. Parents should take every opportunity to discuss child safety with their children, even as young as 3 years old. There are many ways to discuss dangerous people and situations, without making them feel threatened or scared.

The book, "The Sly Fox and the Chicks," by Carl Sommer, is about a family of chicks who are told "Never talk to strangers, even if they are friendly." Unfortunately, a couple of the chicks do not heed this warning, and end up being eaten by a sly fox in a lamb's disguise. This story uses a simple concept to teach children about "stranger danger." The story is easy to understand, but parents should be aware that there is more to discussing child safety with their children than "never talk to strangers." Children should understand what makes someone a stranger. Parents should also practice "what if" situations with their children. Give them the answers on what to do if they ever encounter dangerous situations. Child safety learning should become an integrated part of your child's everyday life.

MyParenTime.com recommends this book -- although my daughter and I would have rathered the two chicks would have disappeared somehow instead of being eaten...it just left a bad taste in our mouths :). Despite this, children will definitely get something out of this story. Parents can expand on it without scaring. Help children stay better prepared with the power of knowledge :).

This book will be a valuable way to introduce the hard lesson of not trusting strangers. Our children and students need to learn this early in life and Sommer allows them to do this through this story. There are learning tools in the end of the book that help teachers and parents provide a life long lesson to any child. The questions cause children to use higher level thinking skills and it will teach children to make right and safe choices in life. Sommer uses a familiar concept of the "big bad wolf" that has long been forgotten in this decade. Get this one quick-you can never teach this too early.

For someone who is just getting started, this book provides an overview of the Wire EDM process. However, if you are past the beginner's stage, this book will not offer much to you.

The Little Red Train is a great book for those kids who loved Thomas the train. This little red train has a wonderful attitude about life. This train is not like the big trains, yet he or she is adorable and the train wins a gold medal for its dedication. An appropriate time to buy this book is NOW! It even has a fun song for children to learn. Sommer has thought of everything, he included the words and music at the end of the book.

Your Job Is Easy is a story about Jane and Sam, a married couple who live on a farm. They decide to switch jobs for the day, to prove how easy each others jobs are. Jane and Sam encounter one disaster and problem after another as they attempt to make it through the day. Everything seems to go wrong and they realize that each others jobs are equally important and not as easy as they had thought. They are SO grateful once their day is over. After having a good laugh at the end of the day, they apologize to each other and realize how important each others jobs really are. With the use of humor, Carl Sommer teaches an important lesson of appreciating others and of forgiveness. Great illustration and color was used in this entertaining and fun to read story.
