This book can take you from beginner to expert.
Presumming you know something about SQL and NT. This book combined, with MSSQL's ease of use, provides a powerfull combination of escorting someone with limited Data Base Administration knowledge to a running and functioning data base. Each knowledge step from installation to using the installed PUBS data base is described in precise detail. The authors right on. "Bon voyage" By contrast, Oracle Unleashed, from the same publisher is the antithesis of Microsoft SQL Server Unleashed.

put it back in print
this is a wonderful book. my children are 10 and 12 and this book was one of their favorites when they were younger, and it still is one of mine. i was searching for it to purchase for friends of mine with 2 year olds and i was stunned to find it out of print. it is a quirky classic. the review in horn books calls the illustrations sub standard and the text flawed...so much for critics' opinions. i found the illustrations beautiful and the text ingenious and engaging.

Practicing architecture at the end of the 20th century
This is a wonderful little book, full of insights and humor about the nature of architectural practice at the end of the 20th century. Mr Solomon has a marvellous way with words. His essays on architecture, urban design and planning are an important statement about the mess we have created of our environment and how it came about. As one of the founders of the New Urbanism movement Mr Solomon is trying to establish a new direction and reach out to other professions and decision makers to change the way we design and plan our communities.

A Literary Masterpiece
This is one of the most thought provoking books I have ever read. Bonevac's prose are masterful...you literally hang on every word. He somehow translates intellectually difficult topics into practical, easy to understand examples. This book is a bargain at any price. I am a changed man for reading it...Thank you Dr. Bonevac! I have already ordered some of your other works and eagerly look forward to reading them with the same intellectual vigor. Viva Bonevac!

Why urban design matters
This is an interesting book about urban design. Mr Solomon explains how the way architecture and urban design have been taught has affected the built environment all over the world and why we need a new school of thought about making cities. The figures he describes as heroes are interesting.. Hopkins, Colin Rowe, some Chinese architect in Beijing, because they have resisted the forces of the media and current trends and have attempted something timeless. The book represents a personal journey by an architect who realizes there is something very wrong about the way our world is evolving but hasn't yet found the complete answer, only some clues as to another direction.
It is a pity there are not more illustrations.

a powerfully argued book
This author really states with such power and imagery how screwed up the modern world is. He describes the 'odorless gas of Modernist thinking' that has affected the way we design, plan and build that is anti-human and incredibly destructive to civilized living.
Great stuff. I couldn't put it down.

Saying it like it is!
I found this book to be so refreshing. Daniel Solomon is an architect and urban designer who writes eloquently and passionately about how cities get built and the huge forces to be overcome if we are to regain civility and harmony with our environment. His writing is funny and perceptive, taking to task the pretensions of Modernist dogma and the way our profession has been taught for the last fifty years. He writes about the need for 'background architecture' to repair the urban fabric and the idea of urbanism as a way of looking at our built environment.
There are some fascinating stories about his home city of San Francisco and the fight to pull down the ugly urban freeways built during the 60's.
The book is essential reading for urban designers and policy makers and all who care about cities and how they are built.

Fluoroscopy Manual For Pain Management

Respectfully disagree
I am a fellowship-trained interventional pain management physician, and I purchased this book with high hopes after reading the first review and the editorial summary. I received it, and promptly returned it. It really falls short in my opinion. The positioning pictures uses three pictures that really add very little to the basic knowledge of positioning the fluoroscopy unit. It does not make the effort to explain nuances of using the C-arm to open up the facet joints, etc. The pictures of the blocks performed show only the final placement of the needle, without any guidance on how to get it there, which is what is really needed in a text such as this. Furthermore, the image quality is remarkably poor in some of the shots. I think anyone interested in a guide on using fluoroscopy for pain management is better off waiting for Prithvi Raj's book, which is due in fall, 2002. His book on Pain Management is excellent and I expect nothing less with his upcoming book, which I have pre-ordered.

A Must-have Manual
We have been using this amazing, comprehensive manual in our pain practice for 4 months. The time that is saved by ustilizing the author's concise explainations of correct patient and flouroscope positioning has cut out time per procedure down and increased the quality of images 3-fold.

Included, are flouro images of each simple and complex procedure performed.

I highly recommend this manual to any radiologic technologist, interventional pain management physician, orthopedist, neurosurgeon and physical medicine and rehabilitation physician.

Radiology departments everywhere should have at least one copy for those technologists who are asked to participate in any injection or implantation procedure.

The cost of this easy-to-use book is paid for in a few days of using it!
