The New St. Martin's Handbook: With 2001 Apa Update
Published in Hardcover by Bedford/St. Martin's (2001)
Authors: Andrea Lunsford and Robert Connors
Amazon base price: $69.50
Average review score:

In my opinion -- Best of its Kind
I call myself a writer, but grammar is something that I have a problem with, so I used a lot of grammar/writing handbooks while going to college. I liked this one the best. The explanations are not simple, but they do not expect you to be a grammarian either. Actually, I only came across this by accident. I found it in a book bin (for free!) and picked it up, --since I am a sucker for anything free - especially a good book, and it has made writing much easier for me.

Boy, am I glad I did. The St. Martin's Handbook actually teaches grammar in a comprehensive way, and they focus on the grammar issues that I have problems with - and for good reason. Andrea Lunsford and Robert Connors found out what the patterns were for error on student writing, and they gathered a nationwide sample of over 20,000 student essays's to find out what the error patterns for error among students are, and they wrote a book for geared towards those patterns.

This book isn't just for the grammatically challenged though; it is a good reference, with everything one hopes to find in a handbook and an excellent learning tool as well. Skip over Bedford and head straight for St. Martin's.

Great for the Novice
I love the way that this instructional book and audiocassette is portrayed. It is not dry as the books given out by the states, but at the same time it gets you to think.

Outstanding introductory text useful even to practitioners
Highly recommended even for seasoned IP litigators; although this is a casebook, it has very thoughtful notes reminiscent of Hart & Wechsler's Fed. Courts casebook.

If Only Bush would read this book....both dad and son
For a book written in 1989...pre Bush Terror...[both Father and Son]....I sure wish their Grandfather would of read them this book!
But, alas, he did not....and look what a mess we are in.

This book is perfect for a Read-Aloud for kids and adults...

The illustrations are so soft and real and artistic....

The wording is so crafted....and calm.

A true Treasure indeed....

but since there is limited financial profit in Peace....it will be relegated to just a cutsy book for kids....which it is not!

This book is a book of substance....Diamonds are small and pure and so is this book.

thank you...

To The Point
By no means is this a substitute for philosophy texts. On its own, it won't do you any good. It does, however, provide myriad examples and analogies in logic and metaphysics. It will help you with examinations.

Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium
Published in Paperback by The New York Theatre Experience (01 February, 2000)
Authors: Martin Denton, Martin Denton, and Robert Simonson
Amazon base price: $14.00

An Extraordinary Book
This is an excellent anthology of eight really good plays which should delight anyone who loves the theatre or who simply appreciates good writing. Although I definitely had my favorites (When Words Fail, Cafe Society, and Making Peter Pope among them), I'd be hard pressed to imagine a better or broader range of plays. The writings are truly thought-provoking. They offer wonderful insights as they deal with issues such as self-discovery, identity, renewal, responsibility, relationships, participation, involvement, hope. I should mention, this is done with a healthy slice of humor. I laughed a lot. These are fun plays.

The concept of a first-rate theatre critic who sees virtually every play on Broadway and most off and off-off-Broadway productions, selecting and putting together, in one volume, eight of the best new off-off-Broadway plays is extraordinary. And very exciting. It gives us, the reader, the opportunity to experience cutting-edge plays which we might never have heard about if not for this book. Martin Denton's attention grabbing introduction with an oh-so-brilliant critical essay on each of the plays is the proverbial icing on the cake. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this book.

Quantum Physics
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (1985)
Authors: Robert Martin Eisberg and Robert Resnick
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Clear Introduction to Quantum Physics
I have used Eisberg's and Resnick's text to review Quantum Physics. I was particularly impressed by the careful development of the underlying theory and plausibility arguements for the mathematical results before embarking upon a full treatment of the mathematics itself. I found the text particularly useful for self-instruction and review. I highly recommend this text. A more recent edition is also available.

Queer Forster (Worlds of Desire - The Chicago Series on Sexuality, Gender and Culture)
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (1997)
Authors: Robert K. Martin and George Piggford
Amazon base price: $17.00
Average review score:

Provides up-to-date research
E. M. Forster's homosexuality made him 'different' when it came to the public morals of English contemporary society. The essays in this book explore the intricate link between that fact and his fiction. It is not an easy read for a Sunday afternoon, but certainly it opens a new world for anyone genuinely interested in E. M. Forster, colonialism in literature, queer theory and twentieth-century literature. Indispensable from the scholarly point of view. A beautiful journey through the Forster-landscape, with many great vistas and precious finds.
