Save your money.
You know, typically people don't make you pay to read their advertisements. This is an exception. Each of the self-serving articles in this book is followed by a 1-2 page advertisement for the author that, not surprising, offers a service to solve the problem outlined in the article. How convenient! This book is a glorified collection of vendor-sponsored white papers.

More Secrets, More Success
This book was a valuable resource. Many tid bits of info that can really make a big difference for your success.

Superb book but you must be a fluent VB programmer.
This is an excellent introduction to using the power of Microsoft's Jet database engine in VB programs. It covers all the basics and provides example coding throughout. Having worked my way through most of it, I can write powerful database programs easily and quickly, in a fraction of time and using a fraction of the code demanded by VB to achieve the same results. I can even understand those dreadful Microsoft Jet Database Help Screens now!!!!!! I recommend the book to experienced VB programmers.

The book is not a 'VB programming for beginners' publication - you need to understand VB before using it. The sample code is full of errors that only an experienced VB user can detect and correct. The authour insists on using the Visdata utility to create SQL commands but does not make clear how to translate these into VB code; a VB beginner would be hopelessly confused and not understand the power and flexibility of this command. Readers also need to understand the concept of relational databases.

An excellent book for those who know VB already!
While I do agree with some reviewers in terms of errors which exist in some code in the book, I strongly disagree with those who condemn this book as being inadequate. This is not a book for Vb or Programming NEOPHYTES!

This book assumes that you know VB, and concentrates on teaching you how to develop database applications. In this area it does a marvelous job. I do agree with the authors mix of DAO/RDO and ADO. There is still a lot of DAO/RDO stuff out there which will need to be supported! It does an excellent job with its treament of ADO, DED, and data report designs. Not forgetting how to design and implement robust databases! Its database treament is even better than most database-only books I have reviewed!!

I know of pricier books that do not come anywhere close in terms of what this book offers(teaches). If you need more or exclusive ADO stuff look elsewhere.

I am both a professional VB/Database designer and also an instructor in VB and DB in a CIS dept and comparing this book to other books especially textbooks, you can't find anything more readable than this book!

I score this book a 4 because of code mistakes!

If you know VB, this is an excellent database design book for you! (Common! Let's be FAIR! The authors actually warn you up front about this fact!)

A very good beginner's intro to VB Database programming
I agree with the other reviewers, this book could use a bit more proof reading, there are some errors. However, if you go through the book and type in all their code and try to figure out why some of their code doesn't work, you learn a lot. You won't learn anything by reading this book, you really have to get your hands dirty, do all the exercises. Overall, I was pleased with this book.

This is really bad.
I wasted my money and I'm not wasting any more time on this review. This is a very poor book. Don't buy it.

Misleading
Hour 15: Protecting your PDF files is misleading.

The author details all manner of ways in which you can supposedly restrict a PDF file from printing, editing, viewing, etc. Unfortunately, he is wrong: PDF files cannot be securely protected from printing, viewing, or editing.

He writes, "[b]e aware that there are some unscrupulous software developers who are working on creating software that will 'crack' the default security features discussed earlier in this hour." (p 240)

Sorry, but programs that can crack PDF files have existed since at least 1991 (their primary purpose isn't to crack PDFs, but it just so happens that they can). A sample chapter is posted on InformIT.com, which just so happens to be "protected" using his techniques from copying or printing. It only took me about 90 seconds to disable the protections (thanks to the DMCA, I can't legally tell you how I did it). Ironically, this chapter explains how to protect your PDFs.

Great Book
This book made it easy to understand how to make PDF files exactly as I need them from all sorts of programs. I learned so much about Acrobat that I never knew like how to combine documents and edit or add securtiy. It did not babble on about useless things like some books do.

Michael Ball
Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are on a 2 on 1 fast break. Jordan with the ball lays it high off of the glass. Pippen slams it home for two points. I read The Jordan Rules by Sam Smith. This is a book about the Chicago Bulls in the 1991-1992 NBA season. I did not think this was a very good book. It only had a few good details but there were not enough to keep you interested. Another bad thing about this is its long chapters. The chapters just seemed like they would take forever to read. Some of the book didn't even talk about Jordan. It would talk about his teammates like Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, and BJ Armstrong. They were always complaining about playing time and not ever getting the ball because Michael was a ball hog and the only other person he would pass the ball to was Scottie Pippen. Horace Grant and Bill Cartwright gave it the name Michael Ball. Jordan always had special rules. Like on road trips he was allowed to bring two of his best friends with him so that way he would feel comfortable. No one else on the team was even allowed to bring family members. At the end of the book the Bulls won the NBA Championship. If I were you I would not waste my money in buying this book because that would be a waste of money. There were not enough details and the chapters were way to long. Don't go wasting your time or money in reading or buying this book.

A good book on the greatest basketball player ever.
I would recomend this book because it shows the private life of Micheal Jordan and the personal problems micheal went through. The book shows how Micheal Jordan built the Chicago Bulls franchise. How he turned a losing team to the most winning team of the ninty's.
