Witty, adventurous, true-to-life characters. This easy story read is terrific, especially if you are a fan of Joan Smith's novels.

One of Joan's best in her Regency Romance series
This book may be the best in Joan Smith's Regency Romance series. Her books are known for their witty, clever dialogue and their touch of suspense. This one has all those characteristics and more. This is one I will not part with and have read a least five times.

Adorable Children's Book
This is the sweetest book my son has ever read. It is totally geared toward children. My son loved recognizing the landmarks he has grown to love. A must read for all of Cleveland's children and anyone who ever thought about trying to explain relocation to their child.

incredibly remarkable woman
Jobe Smith has applied the word Jehovah as an adjective not as blasphemy. Such as did Erskine Caldwell when he wrote God's Little Acre. Well, I have read this book and it is a well-written and original bunch of slice-of-life poems about a single mother in the 1960s and her survival and struggle to make a living in the stinking misbegotten go-go bars of that era. It's a remarkable piece of anthropology (written by an incredibly remarkable woman) depicting the never-ending war between the sexes and the so-called sexual "liberation" of those times. Buy it! Read it! It'll change your life.

Wonderful!
I loved this book. Once I began reading, I became immersed in the story. The characters were witty and the plot moved along quickly. The book began in the safety of England and then moved to the dangers of France during the Revolution. It had intricate history details. This book is hard to find,(I found it in the Zshops) but it's worth looking for and a keeper.

Great Reference
OK, so I didn't exactly READ this book through... there are tens of thousands of quotations in here, along with such things as John F. Kennedy's complete inaugural address and other famous speeches in their entirety. When I was searching for "just that right quote" for a speech I was preparing, I found exactly what I was looking for, along with a dozen others I wish I could have used. And that was only in the "Leadership" section. This book was much better than any of the others I looked through, very comprehensive, unbiased, and it even looked educational. I'd recommend that anyone who needs to find just that perfect quotation look through this book first.

Rose Trelawney
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Ballantine Publishing Group (1980)
Author: Joan Smith
Amazon base price: $1.75
Used price: $2.49
Collectible price: $3.98
Average review score:

Rose Trelawney
I loved this novel. The characters are well-drawn, funny, interesting and mysterious. The fact that the main character suffers from amnesia at the beginning of the story could have been overplayed very easily. Instead, you believe her amnesia, you believe the family's reaction to this stranger in their midst. The clues to the real identity of "Rose Trelawney" don't appear, they are uncovered step-by-step by good detective work. Joan Smith has gone on to write modern mysteries, but I have to say that I enjoy her regency mystery/romances like this one very much.
