Wonderful
I gave this book to my brother when he moved to London, and he later said it was addictive to have around and use to visit where the Beatles did what they did. I visited him since then, and used the book myself to visit scenes from the movie HELP and A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, go to Chiswick House to see where The Beatles filmed the "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" videos, and go to many other Beatles London sites. This is a must-have book for anyone who is a Beatles fan and is going to visit London. Or for anyone who wants to be an armchair explorer of their old haunts. It's entertaining reading even if you'll never go to London.

Great book for both students and professionals
Yes, It's a great book -- Not only a dictionary of jargons, but also a collection of guidelines for study and research in various fields within the discipline. Most items provide a brief but critical review on the topics, all by preeminent figures in related areas. It's will be great helpful for both students and professionals.

Field Brings Anatomy to Life
I found this book in the library and kept renewing over, finally deciding to purchase it. I learned Gross Anatomy in medical school this year, but found it difficult to translate what I saw in dissections back to the live person. This book does a beautiful job explaining relationships in surface anatomy with color photos and hand drawings. It includes relationships with arteries, nerves and joints. Most beneficual are the explanations of how to actually palpate the structures in physical exam. This is an excellent resource for medical students.
On Quaternions and Octonions

Good, but something is better
Conway is an excellent mathematician and an extremely lucid author. No criticism should be given to any of his writings. In the case of quaternions (and octonians), a much better, more complete, and more powerful view is achieved by seeing them in the larger setting of geometric algebra. The geometric algebra gives direct access to all the results and all the geometry of these algebras, and does so in an intuitive and useful way. I suggest that the new book by Chris Doran and Anthony Lasenby called "Geometric Algebra for Physicists" is a better place, generally, to get acquainted with these issues deeply. It isn't a criticism of Conway. It's just an advantage of seeing things in the right context.
Examining 3- and 4-dimensional Euclidean spaces
On Quaternions And Octonions: Their Geometry, Arithmetic, And Symmetry is a collaboratively presented treatise by John H. Conway and Derek A. Smith on the geometry of the quaternion and octonion algebras. Examining 3- and 4-dimensional Euclidean spaces, enumerating the corresponding finite group of symmetries, analyzing the arithmetics of quaternions and octonions and much more, this impressive presentation sheds new light on the geometry of complex numbers and is a scholarly addition to Advanced Mathematics reference collections and reading lists.
A model of exposition
John Conway's books are always well written, and this could serve as a model for other mathematics authors. I don't need to know that much about quaternions and octonions, but I found myself working through most of the book and the beautiful mathematics it covers. The only thing that disappoints is the dreadful cover and the difficulty getting hold of a copy in a bookstore. But then I guess Amazon.com exists to help people get their hands on stuff they might never see in a bookstore.

It's more than just a showcase for Photoshop artists...
In-depth interviews with several Photoshop artists, well-planned tutorials and graphical screen grabs, and source-packed CD-ROM are just but a few of the features this great book offers. I have just scratched the surface, and I am very pleased with purchasing this book. The artists share what and who influence their work in detail, and share their views on how they bring their own voice to their work. I buy many books on Photoshop, and this has to be one of the most useful and inspiring books on Photoshop. Worth every cent.
Great great book!
This book is not a step by step tutorial of Photoshop. It requires basic knowledge of the program and is aimed at people who work with Photoshop regularly and would like to learn how different designers produce and enhance their works in Photoshop. Design inspirations may come from many different sources, including fine arts, photography, drawing, other grafix packages, you name it. This book teaches you about that inspiration and how to take your work to a next level, using Photoshop as the medium. Photoshop is an image manipulation program. It is where and how you find your inspirations and initial material for designs that will determine how efficient you'll be using the program.
inspirational
ignore anyone who said the people in this book are not masters...people like jens karlsson, mike cina, and derek lea produce some beautifully inspiring art in photoshop and this book is a great guide for anyone seeking a profession or hobby involving the best use of photoshop possible. it is not meant to teach you photoshop, rather, to boost those who know photoshop to push its limits and expand their talents. amazing book, totally worth the money. i spent $[money] on it at borders and dont regret spending that much at all. go out and get this.

Material comprehensive, but not clearly written or presented
While the amount of information is substantial, the content is not well written or organised making it difficult to locate relevant information. Similarly, the flow of information from chapter to chapter lacks logic, as does the layout. For example, the text may refer to diagram 1, but the diagram does not appear for another three pages!!
The writing style is particularly wordy and does not make use of practical examples.
I am currently using this text as my primary resource for a post graduate course which I am studying externally and have not found it satisfies my needs at all.
If it wasn't for the fact that the two recommended texts were sold out locally I would not be using this at all.
An excellent resource for the IS and non-IS managers.
I found this book to be an excellent guide in developing tools for others to understand IT Project Management. It is also a great help in teaching others to develop clear, concise requests for proposals seeking contractors to assist in a project.

The book is nothing more than a catalogue but what an extraordinary catalogue it is! The photos of the renderings and models are top quality and really good choices by the author and editors. One can really see the watercolor techniques in the renderings along with the development of the design ideas Uban went through in his varied and prolific life as a designer. I really enjoyed the ddesigns and written text associated with the New School of Social Research. His work seems to be a precurser to Mondrian without the sterility of some of the Bauhaus concepts. His theatrical work really enlivened his architectural work.
His designs for the theatre were outrageous and vital.
I rate this book so very high because Urban's work is so important to stage design in America. As I said earlier, this book is a catalogue - but what a body of inspired and fantastical work to catalogue!
