Choral Pedagogy Reviewed
This book is a wonderful text for understanding the development and use of the human voice. While the text is titled Choral Pedagogy, the text can also be useful for Speech Pathologists, Voice Actors or anyone who deals with the voice professionally for a living. The sections by Dr. Smith are clear and concise and she communicates her information to reader with ease. Translating her material to practical application is easy and highly beneficial within a short time Dr. Sataloff's contributions are mainly in the area of the physical construction of the human voice and it is helpful if you already have some background in anatomy to understand his chapters, but anyone with a college level science background should understand it. The illustrations of the human pharynx and the photographs could have been a little clearer, but some of that could have been a result of the publisher's choice to print the book in a smaller than average text size. Overall an excellent text, and one that I hope would become a standard for this area.

Every choral teacher needs this one!
This book does not teach you how to conduct a four-pattern or sequence your rehearsal; it does tell you about vocal anatomy, vocal health and pedagogy for the choir director who is a pianist or instrumentalist. The book is also useful for voice teachers and singers. The book contains excellent information on anatomy and physiology of the voice; medical care of disorders; arts medicine and risks (such as the risk of deafness in the left ear of a violinist); voice building; diction; and rehearsal techniques. The book's diagrams and photographs are extremely helpful, and its information is clear, straight-forward, and thorough, yet concise. This book is an extremely useful tool and ought to be on the shelf of every choral teacher.

This is an excellent book! Its diagrams and photographs are extremely helpful, and its information is clear, straight-forward, and thorough, yet concise (only 160 pages). This book is an extremely useful tool and ought to be on the shelf of every choral teacher.

Great Resourse
I got this book to not only help me, but to help my sons teachers understand some of the complexities of Aspergers. It is a great reference for teachers, professionals, and parents.

Simple explainations even your relatives can understand
If you have a child with Asperger Syndrome and have found yourself explaining over and over again why s/he gets agitated over seemingly innocent smells and noises. If you get dirty looks from people who think your child is just naughty and out of control because they cover their ears, plug their noses and try to escape when they get sensory overload, then this is the book for you. Not only does it give you the words to explain what is happening to your child to others, it gives your child the words for how he is feeling himself. I have seriously considered making a card much like page ii in the introduction that is a picture of the boy with the various signs for his sensory problems. A big eared cartoon next to his ear that says, "Overly senstive to loud noises" ; a fuzzy bristled looking character representing the tactile sense that says "Has difficulty with hair washing and brushing." In one page it explains the entire problem with pictures. In addition the book gives really good ideas about what to do about the sensory issues. Very practical book. Definetely a must have in your Asperer library.

This book is excellent -- Easy to read and understand
This book is packed with hundreds of ideas to help children with AS survive in a neurotypical world. It explains sensory issues in a user-friendly way and provides a blue print for helping individuals with AS!

The unique persepctive of a boy with Aspergers Syndrome
I liked this book.

Each page contains a picture accompanied by a vignette describing a particular problem or perception experienced by the protagonist. The examples are clear and concrete. The drawings are clear, but perhaps a little too cartoonish. This story could help students in a classroom understand the behavior of a classmate with these characteristics. Instead of labeling behaviors as "obnixious" the other students might be stimulated to see the world from the perspective of the child with Aspergers.

This book is not meant to be a comprehensive text, but it describes the reactions and feelings of a particular individual. Because people with Aspergers are each so unique, it might not fit the exact behaviors of each person. Still, it is a good book because it gets you thinking from a another perspective--and that is what Aspergers is about.

Thank you for your insight in writing this book!
This book was obviously written by people who understand children with Asperger Syndrome. Providing realistic examples that happen to our children, this book shows the joys and challenges that come with having a child with AS. It clearly explains AS. People should read this book to clear up the misunderstandings about AS.

Increase awareness and acceptance
I found this book to be very simply written and an easy way to communicate my child's perspective to other adults in a non-threatening way. I recently shared this book with my child's instructional assistant, she was so thrilled she asked me "where I could get three more copies?" I ordered them, and donated them to the school. It turns out that the book has been shared across the campus, with a copy being left in the teachers lounge for other educators to be able to understand. I think this book is a great way to see Asperger's syndrome through the eyes of a child. It's a simple breakdown of some very complex issues that need to be communicated to raise awareness and acceptance.

Great book, but will students use it?
I think this is a great book and I'll be using it myself here when I teach two courses called "Learning Strategies for History. While I found it very useful, I'm wondering how useful a student attempting to use it alone would find this book. The suggested exercises are good but without feedback some motivation may be lacking. So, if you thought of getting this for your child or spouse or whoever who is having difficulty with a history course, do it but be willing to read it with them and give them feedback as they try to put some of the suggestions and information into practice.

abstract language makes it hard for intended readers
Abstract ideas and language in this work gave my friend a hard time understanding the content. They also make it difficult for those who do understand it to explain the text to their ESL friends. It could have been better, i suppose.

Once you get used to it the book can be pretty good
By the reviews in this site you will hate the book before opening it, but I would advise the reader to try it because once you go through it, it can be a pretty nice book.

Skill Building
Reading critically is an essential skill to getting through college, and this book helped me improve that skill and thus improved my whole college experience. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a little extra help with all those very difficult college textbooks!

authors misunderstand L'Engle
Anyone who believes Madeleine L'Engle promotes paganism or anything immoral totally misunderstands her work. These authors have twisted facts to promote their OWN agenda, which is unfair to Mrs. L'Engle. Her books reflect her faith and love of Christ. People like the authors of this book want our right to free speech to be revoked. Anything that goes against their interpretation of the Bible makes them very afraid. Their aim is not to spread love (as is Mrs. L'Engle's), but to act in judgment of others. They don't want you to believe like they do because they are concerned for you; they just desparately want you to validate their myopic beliefs. God is the only one who can judge anyone else. The fact that these women wrote a book whose pupose was to condemn another human being because of her writings (which have helped countless people become closer to God) speaks for itself. God doesn't need anyone to police the universe.

This Is Must Reading For Any Serious Christian.
These researchers document how New Age philosophy infiltrates Christian churches and organizations. This book will open your eyes or it might step on your toes. But don't blindly accept or discount the contentions of the authors. Check out the research references for yourself and then draw your own conclusions. If you are a Texe Marrs fan, then you will want to pick up a copy of Trojan Horse and Samantha Smith's second book, Goddess Earth, which documents ties between New Age philosophy and the environmental movement

Just Use Common Sense Instead
The title is compelling simple, and the book is even simpler. "Learn people's names", "Arrive on time", "Don't write too small". You don't really need a book for this. If you do, well.....you probably shouldn't be in this business. Sorry.

Perhaps the 500 need to be distilled somewhat..
This is a good resource for the beginning trainer and as a reminder/memory jogger for the rest of us who 'take it for granted'. However, some of the tips are just too obviouse even for the absolute novice (as pointed out below).

The tips are arranged into categories:
1)Planning & Preparation.
2) getting Participants Going.
3) Using Things Around You.
4) Keeping your Training Sessions Going.
5) Looking after Yourself.
6) Evaluating your Training Sessions.
