I loved this book and the main character and others
Darby is my very favorite book I've ever read. The main character Darby is so cool and real, and the stories she tells about her time growing up in the 1920s with a black best friend are perfect. It was entertaing, pretty, and funny a lot. It even got exciting. She's brave and doesn't try to be, which is the best thing. I've never read a book so fast and enjoyed a story so much for just the way it feels and sounds and kind of goes. I wish all of the characters were around here for me to meet, and I wish I could see Bennettsville where she lives. I try to imagine it a lot now. I try to picture her and back to when she was a girl, and it's so different, like how her twelve year old brother can drive and black and white kids aren't supposed to be friends but they are anyway, even though a lot of adults don't like it. I think it's the best book I'll ever read, with the best type of story and the best way to learn about the past.

A wonderful story for everyone
Darby took my breath away. It truly did. I teach middle school and intend to put it on my reading list for next year. Without a doubt, kids will love the spirit and courage demonstrated by the title character. A nine-year-old girl growing up in 1926, South Carolina, Darby (amongst simply living and breathing in the perfectly described time period), for the first time in her short life, becomes aware of the racial inequalities and decides to address them in an article she and one of her best friends writes for the local paper. After that, the troubles begin. I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone, but I will say that it is a gripping, exciting story set off by lovely writing and a huge dose of goodwill and humor. Darby will surely become a classic in classrooms and libraries. Two of my students already read the book (one in a day), and they absolutely raved about it. It's good to have strong female characters in realistic rolls, but it's even better when a whole family shows bravery despite the very real possibility that they will end up as social outcasts. (How often do similar fears grip the occupants of our schools?) An exquisite story for all readers, I highly recommend Darby to educators, students, and even adults. :>)

The good book my teacher made us read
My teacher made us read Darby, and I didn't want to. Now I'm so happy she did. It was the most intresting story I've ever expirienced at school. It was so good that I was entertained the entire time I read it. I loved Darby as a girl and I wish I was her . It's important issues that she was involved in, about race and how everybody needs to get along better in the world. It really might be the coolest story. I know it was the nicesyt a teacher ever made me read. I would read it without a teacher telling me to.

Lenegrin
Reading is one of my favorite things to do, and reading this book was definately a highlight of my years of reading. I have never read a book more enjoyable than Lenegrin. It was entertaining, engrossing, tantalizing and thorougly addictive from the first page to the last. I found myself slowly getting to know these characters with all their good and bad characteristics, as one would get to know someone in life. By the end of the book, I didn't want to say goodbye.

Lenegrin is one of the few books I've looked forward to reading again. Great writing! Let's hope there are many more where this one came from!

A great story of searching, self-doubt, and redemption
This is a first, folks! Middleton Books is a brand new independent press, and Lenegrin is their very first title. It is Middleton Books' intention to publish books of a non-traditional fantasy genre. By this they state that the genre is allegorical based on language use, but not tied to any religious connotations. Jonathan Scott was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and has studied traditional tales used for teaching purposes for twenty-five years. He has published several short stories, and Lenegrin is his first novel.

Lenegrin is the tale of a man who has lost his memory, but finds himself in the middle of an enemy camp, brought there cold, bloody, and hungry by an old woman. He has no idea of his identity, but quickly learns he is some type of warrior. He flees after killing a man who threatens him, only to find himself in the company of a strange group of companions. He only remembers the term "Lenegrin."

"When it was light enough, I was able to see my traveling companions. On my left sat a tall, think man of early middle age with a beaked nose and a lifeless expression on his face. Next to him, a ragged adolescent girl was sitting with her mother, who was even more ragged than the daughter. The Mother held a baby on her lap and clutched a large basket holding a pair of birds inside. Sitting across from me was a frail ancient-looking man, with a shock of snow-white hair. He had a sack with a strap slung over his shoulder. None of them seemed to pay me any attention.

Jonathan D. Scott accomplishes many things with Lenegrin. First, he employs language and myth to create an "every man" type of character. He also entertains us with a great story of searching, self-doubt, and ultimate redemption. But he leaves enough shrouded in mystery to captivate and bemuse his readership. At the end of the tale we are thirsting for more. Just when we begin to understand what Lenegrin the place is all about, Scott pulls down the curtain. Hopefully this is just a tease for the sequel he has in mind. Lenegrin could be another "Lord of the Rings". We're not sure. We'll just have to wait and see.

An amazing, fun and unpredictable read!!
Lenegrin offers readers an exciting vision of another world. Jonathan has become my favorite writer of all times! He is incredibly insightful and creative! After reading Lenegrin, I felt that I was returning from an amazing journey that has enriched my imagination as well as my knowledge of my own self. I cannot reccomend any other book as highly as I reccommend Lenegrin!

The most beautiful book ever published
Having been to this area of Africa three times, twice in the Masi Mara and once to the Serengeti this book brings me back over and over again to this heaven on earth. The combination of drawings, photographs, and writing of Jonathan and Angela Scott are outstanding. This is my all time favorite book. The love these authors feel for this area and the animals and people who live there comes through on every page. For anyone who has the slightest interest in wild animals, ecology, photography, art, travel or Africa this book is a must have. Awesome!

Beyond the Photo Safari!
Mara-Serengeti captures the essence of living in the Mara-Serengeti region in a way that you would not experience in a dozen safaris to Africa. The images of predators, prey, wildlife migrations, and the Masai bring you close up during moments of blazing color in the sky and dramatic action in the grasslands. The images are improved by thoughtful essays that draw on the photographers' many years of experience with these subjects.

The animal photographs are mostly grouped by subject and include lions, leopards, zebras, wart hogs, impalas, cheetahs, wildebeest, hyenas, crocodiles, vultures, and wild dogs. The subjects are usually of animal families, migration, killing, and eating in often symbolic settings for these activities. The Masai images come at the book's end, sort of completing the evolutionary progression of the food chain.

You probably have heard of the Serengeti. It's a vast grassland in Tanzania, and is now protected as the Serengeti National Park there. The Masai Mara National Reserve is in neighboring Kenya, and the two lands are connected geographically, if not politically. A map in the book will display all of this for you. This site is the area where humans probably first walked the face of the Earth, and the dwindling of these remarkable spaces marks the potential for us to lose our ability to visualize our roots.

The name, Serengeti, in Masai means "land of endless space." The closest we have to this habitat in the United States that I have seen is the brief enclosure in the wild animal park that the San Diego zoo maintains near Escondido, California.

The action photographs impressed me the most. These show predators literally flying and spinning in the air just before they land while the terrorized prey wheels desperately away. The action is captured almost like a key play in a sporting event. That's pretty typical of the photography here. The images emphasize action and perspectives that you do not yet have, and this book will add wonderfully to your sense of the special nature of the grasslands of Africa.

After you have finished expanding your vision of natural selection, I suggest that you think about the ways that our lives are enhanced by understanding our origins and how our lives are not. How can we draw inspiration from nature and stand in our most meaningful role?

Look for what few have seen . . . always! Truth will emerge from your trial.

Great Gift Idea
The recipes include foods that the whole family will enjoy - great for those trying to lower their cholestrol who also have kids. I gave it as a gift to a friend who just had a heart attack at age 40 (better than flowers, and I certainly wouldn't give chocolates) and he enjoyed the recipies so much I'm buying one for myself.

Thumbs up!!
This book is my bible. It is perfection itself. It is the most up to date resource of its kind, and of any kind. The author is a god. Please call him Zeus, all of his friends do. I do not know the author, but he is one of the voices in my head. If you read the book backwards, you will find inner peace. Buy it

near essential for board prep
this is better than rivers by far-44 cases that you do with another person acting as the examiner, or do half as the examiner & half as the candidate, with a friend who is also studying for the orals-rivers is ok, but this more accurately simulates the exam process & has enough repetition that is becomes second nature-they especially look for the picky details that are easy to overlook & presumably a big part of your score in the real thing-i recommend both rivers & pearls, but this has a higher yield

Excellant Study Guide for the Family Practice Boards
I used this book as a central guide for study for the 2000 Boards in Family Practice. Unlike typical board review texts using the multiple choice format, this book uses short questions followed by brief answers and review. It made study fun.

Excellent book about the history of Dark Shadows.
The book explains how the show got it's start. You read about how the actors were choosen and about them personally. There is a section about what each actor has done since the show ended. An episode guide gives a brief summary about all 1245 shows. There are several pictures throughout the book. Stories are told about the writing, set designs, and funny things that happened during the run of the show. This is a very interesting book.

Exellent

All right book, good for additional info
Makes Clarisents into much better psions, even for people who like to hack and slash. Clarisentsa at first seemed to weak, but other important uses for thewir powers are shared in this sourcbook

A good first supplement.
White Wolf has done well with the first area supplement for Trinity, making the least imposing group of characters - ISRA - much cooler than the original book. The color section is well done, and the information is valuable. My only complaints are that the B&W section blends player and GM information and there is too little equipment.

impressive conduit
Robert Scott Martin is a fabulous writer and makes his wide scope of knowledges clear in this simple and lovely work. Clairsentients are exposed as being quite the important and opportune character, and like Robert Scott Martin's other contributions to White Wolf, this bears the mark of gentle scholarship and half-mad, magnaminous creativity.

This easy to read book is a "gold mine" of practical information that can be used by folks who have ADD as well as their partners to enrich their romantic relationship(s).
