A much needed book about modern day Native people
There are hundreds of children's books that are about Native Americans, but most of them are folktales and legends - books set in the past. Rarely do we find a top notch picture book about a modern day family. That is exactly what this book is - top notch! Teachers can use it to help their children understand that Native Americans are not exotic, and are not extinct, but living in today's United States. Today, Native people's lives include a blend of elements of their cultural traditions with today's lifestyles.

Groceries : [poems]
Published in Unknown Binding by University of Pittsburgh Press ()
Author: Herbert Scott
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Groceries
Groceries is possibly one of the greatest poetry collections ever written. A series of poems, each dealing with the various colorful and desolate denizens of a grocery store, spills out in this disturbing and powerful collection. It is worth reading every word with the deliberation one would normally use to study the Bible.

Juvenile Gangs
Published in Hardcover by Charles C Thomas Pub Ltd (1997)
Authors: Herbert C. Covey, Robert J. Franzese, and Scott W. Menard
Amazon base price: $72.95
Average review score:

A comprehensive review of gangs
Covey et. al provide perhaps one of the best comprehensive compilation of information regarding gangs. They discuss gang formation drawing on the research of Miller, Spergel, and Klein. They also address the cultural aspects of gangs and they provide a chapter on gangs in other countries, although the literature is relatively bare in this area. Although it is an academic book, laypersons interested in subject matter will benefit by reading it.

PR Visionaries: Leading Public Relations Experts Reveal the Secrets to Getting Noticed, Making a Name for Your Company, and Building a Brand Through Public Relations
Published in Paperback by Aspatore Books (2002)
Authors: Raymond L. Kotcher, Aspatore Books, Aspatore Books Staff, Andrea Carney, Aedhmar Hynes, Herbert L. Corbin, Dan Klores, Larry Weber, Scott Chaikin, and David Paine
Amazon base price: $27.95
Average review score:

Outstanding!
PR Visionaries is a remarkable piece of work! It provides you with the techniques and secrets of the best and leading members of the industry, from Ketchum, Porter Novelli, Brodeur Worldwide, and other leading players.

While strong on the strategic side, PR Visionaries is a bit weaker on the tactical side. I don't hold the editors responsible for this, however, as this is not a how-to manual, per se. For the tactical side, I found Guerrilla PR: Wired by Michael Levine to be a more than adequate resource.

PR Visionaries, as the title says, has the giants of the public relations industry tell you how to get noticed, build a brand, develop and protect a reputation, and how to be effective with key opinion-leaders, including the CEO. While it might be overly dramatic to say the book spills their secrets, PR Visionaries covers the various facets on how to successfully manage a powerful public relations campaign on all levels, one that clearly resonates with key stakeholders and publics.

Principles of Patent Law: 1999 Supplement: Cases and Materials
Published in Paperback by Foundation Press (1999)
Authors: Donald S. Chisum, Craig Allen Nard, Herbert F. Schwartz, Pauline Newman, and F. Scott Kieff
Amazon base price: $6.85
Average review score:

The Patent Guru's book
Which is one author's name which comes to the mind of a patent law attorney for authoritative patent information? Donald Chisum is one of the foremost authority on patent law. His other book is a giant encylopaedia on patents. Honestly, many many of us are never going to read that big encylopaedia. But the same man along with Nard, Swartz, Newman and Kieff has written this casebook. This book is a must read for all those who want to get the best of Chisum's knowledge of patents.

It has the mandatory history part followed by philosophy and economics of patent law. There are two excellent chapters on Nonobvoiousness and and Utility. Cases are selected with care and properly edited. There are some sidebars too.

captures the yearning of children to be a part of the world
This is my 3 year old son's all time favorite book. It perfectly captures the spirit of children yearning to become part of the adult world, in this instance, to be able to ride a horse. It's homey feeling and subtle humor make it a pleasure to read again and again and again...a must for little cowpokes.

On Mother's Lap
Published in Paperback by Clarion Books (1992)
Authors: Glo Coalson and Ann Herbert Scott
Amazon base price: $6.95
Average review score:

A very nice book but for a little bit older child
I love this story but my son is only 16 months and it doesn't hold his attention as well as some of the other books we bought ("I'm a Big Brother," "The New Baby") to prepare him for becoming a big brother. The story is just beautiful and it reads very well; he's just not interested in it. I think if he was a little older, he might like it better.

Beautiful Story and Illustrations
This book tells the story of a little boy who, while curled on his Mother's lap, wants to bring all sorts of other objects up with him... until the baby wants to be included. Of course, there's "always room on Mother's lap" which the little boy finds is not only true but a pleasant experience for him as well.

I love the restful illustrations and the ethnic items the young boy wants to have with him on mom's lap. The overall story is one of sweet acceptance and a perfect read for a young older sibling.

Good Ol' Mom
This adorable book tells the simple story of a little boy who not only wants to be on Mother's lap (but not little brother!), he wants to pile all his favorite things on her, too. It happens to be set in an Alaskan village, and some items in the room are of interest for those children learning about Alaska. The Mother in the book is very patient and wise, and lets her boy know that "There's always room on Mother's lap." A very sweet and loving book.

a good book for children that fantisize about being a cowboy
This book tells what it means to be a cowboy these days, and how not that much has changed sence the open range days. It will give children the idea of what being a cowboy is really about and what it takes to be one. The story has a fun adventure to it that any child would love.

Eric Owen Moss: The Box
Published in Paperback by Princeton Architectural Press (1996)
Authors: Eric Owen Moss, Brooke Hodge, Andrew Bush, Preston Scott Cohen, Herbert Muschamp, and Peter G. Rowe
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Beautifully presented book with evocative photos of work.
Through his whimsical spaces, Moss shows us how architecture can be invested with idea, how idea does not have to conspire with ideology, but be layered with a machiavellian character to create a kinesthesia of layered spaces. The BOX project inspires enthusiasm with its poetry, its exactatude, and its radically independent aesthetics and vocabulary of form. This small and beautiful book studying one building should be part of every creative library.

My son's first grade class loved this book!
I first picked up SAM because the little boy on the cover reminded me so much of my son in one of his "nobody will play with me" -sad-funks. The story is simple and moving and makes you think about how easily little ones can get their feelings hurt. I read it to my son's first grade class, and when I finished I heard a chorus of "Read it again, read it again!" I'd give it 5 stars if only it were a bit longer! But well worth the 5 bucks. Illustrations are very life-like and evocative
