very entertaining!
Peacocks, she sells seashells, bitter butter, many old, well known twisters and modern ones. Even a story written with alliteration! Very enlightening, and I hope I can get my edition soon, for I used to have this book, but lost it along the way, and now it is out of print.

its okay
I remember reading this for the first time, when i was very young, maybe 3rd grade, 1993, and it was the scariest thing book(before i experienced exorcist) I think what made this book so scary to me was because i had a very active imagination, and i could picture all the events going on, while i was reading it. recently, i found my old copy in the garage now, 11 years later, i read it, and i didnt' find it scary at all. I thought it would have been scarier maybe if the author had elaborated more on the stories, and gave more details to the envirement and atmosphere of the story. Every story in the book ends very abruptly, and it doesn't send any chill up my spine. i'll give you an example, one story ends "the next day they were found dead" thats it.. I give this book 4 stars because i liked it so much when i was a kid, but when you're an adult, you should expect more in a book. Most of the stories here can be read in less than 3 minutes, ( i remember it taking me more than a half hour when i was 7) and they aren't very satisfying. If you're a parent, buy the book for your kids, sometimes its good to be scared, kids have better imaginations than adults, and this book is great just for them. by the way, the drawings are sick, and maybe thats why this book is banned from many schoools, i doubt its the stories.

THE GREATEST CHILDREN'S HORROR SERIES OF ALL TIME
I don't know where to begin, these books have been such a huge part of my life! I remember discovering these when i was in 3rd grade, in 1993. I was truly obsessed, when friends would come over I would just read, read, read out loud to them, some of them scared to death by the stories, others mesmerized by the awesome illustrations (thank you steven gammell!) I still talk about them till this day (im a junior in high school) its been 8 years and I have still not forgotten these books. Alot of the stories live on in my mind, "The big toe," or "Bloody Fingers" (COOL IT MAN, GET A BANDAID!) ahhaha I lovem! I recommend this book to every living soul on the face of this planet, go out and buy all three! (More scary s's is the best, i think) I LOVE THESE BOOKS!

Death,Chaos,Frozen Stardust
I remember this book and its sequel well, not sure if I read the third one.As a kid I loved it yet it brought me into a world of dread.I know I slept with the light on at times.I do not know why these books have been so etched into my subconscious. They definitely have.Alot of todays kids are fans of GooseBumps.Nothing at all scary about those. The pics and stories are usually comical. These books are entirely different. They are like party invite cards from beyond the veil of death. Some of the stories are old and well known. The stories alone do not make them frightening it is the illustrations with the stories.Even if you are an adult and love horror check these books out!The illustrations could give all of you nightmares. So when you see them think of how a kid would feel looking at them. They are more scary than alot of images in horror movies. Ahhh but to describe the illustrations.Ever seen the silent German Expressionist film Nosferatu? If so you know that it is scarier than any vampire flick now.He has a Demonic rodent look.It gave you the feeling of being in a nightmare.Being in a world which you have no control.Well that is the effect of these illustrations. If Salvador Dali and Max Ernst ever were to see these books they would love them. The illustrations are all black and white. Many leering and decaying corpses.Everything distorted by mist amorphous shapes which you can make slight details on emerging from the fog.I remember the illustration to one of the stories called "Oh Susanna",I have not seen anything like it.It is worthy of an art gallery. It creates feelings of dizzines and a transcendent euphoria if you were to sit and stare at it.Utterly horrible yet you are hypnotized as it strikes you with its venom. As I said if you are a fan of late German Expressionism or Surrealism you will cherish this book.Is it suitable for kids?Yes older ones and ones that can handle this sort of thing.Regardless of that you need not be a kid to enjoy this.... In conclusion if you love horror as much as I do BUY THIS BOOK!You will not be disappointed.

Cool book
Ghosts

Alvin Schwartz

Reading level: 1-3

Your review: This is a good book! I would recommend it. It has really funny illustrations and really good ones too! It isn't a chapter book but it does have 7 funny but not scary stories about ghosts!

This book causes bed-wetting!
Sure, read it to your kids at bedtime and you will take a day off the next day to clean their beds (NOT speaking from my personal experience, though).

A collection of several short stories about ghosts, all of them have a little surprising or twisting ending. The book completes with a short story to tell your kids what to do to scare off a ghost if they run into one.

Make sure to ask your kids to use the bathroom before bedtime, or they might fail to scare off the ghosts that cause bedwetting.

Youngest age to read to is probably about 3+ years old.

Great for the child who likes a little scare
When my son read this book it was the first time ever that he read past his required 20 minutes and actually finished the book! He loved the scary tone, but not too scary for a child.

Scary
This book is a collection of short scary stories for children, perfect for Halloween season. I remember reading these stories when I was younger and think that they where they scariest things. If you read the stories to the children, you could then have them come up with their own scary stories. Plus it is a great way to introduce the genre of mystery and suspense and teach the children what qualities a book must have to actually be a mystery. Most of all these short stories are fun to read and they are not so scary that a child would be left with nightmares, and they are short enough that they keep the child's attention long enough

great scary stories
These stories may not be frightening to the average reader, but they are enjoyable to younger readers who want to know what a scary story is all about. Five stars all the way.

It was so good and so memorable
When I was in the third grade I read this book and now on this day I'm in the tenth grade and I still remember this book as my favorite even though I haven't seen it in years it's a great book and I've been searching for it the book stores don't seem to have it but now here I found it the book is filled with grate stories that your children will love as much as I do my favorite story is the green ribbon.

I loved this book.
I remember when I got this book. It was near Halloween and I had to go to Burlington coat factory with my grandma. I saw this book and asked her if I could get it. She said okay. I was eight years old. I took it back to her house and read it that night. My favorite story was 'The Green Ribbon'. I took it to school with me the following Monday so that my teacher would read it to us and she got excited when she saw 'The Green Ribbon' because it was a story she was looking for that was told to her when she was a child. I love this book and I recommend it to you, but I do think that if you're a parent, you might want to see if your child can handle some of these stories. Aside from that, this is a fine bit of literature and will be cherished by many people for years to come.

An unforgettable spooky experience!
I have always been a fan of scary ghost stories. Half the fun is reading them then having the thrill of telling them to other people. That's why I loved and still love Alvin Schwartz's books. "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" series were my favorite! I remember reading them in third grade and I still read them now! Last week or so I was looking through them and I remembered "In A Dark, Dark Room", also by him. I remembered how much I loved the stories and the illustrations. So I decided to order them from Amazon.com. I just got mine today and I am so glad I ordered it so I could enjoy it all over it again! It's books like this that stay with you your whole life, because you love them since you first read them, and no matter how old you get, they are still some of the most fun experiences in reading you'll ever have. There's a certain magic in childrens' books that have such an effect on people. This book is one of them. Brilliant retelling and brilliant illustrations. I can't wait until Halloween rolls around again so I can take this marvelous book and curl up with it next to a fire. (Of course, I could do that now, too!) Either way, I highly suggest you order this book, no matter how old you are, if you are interested and tickled by stories of hauntings and decapitations and things lurking in the dark.

Read read
This book is about tall tales and other big lies. Some of the stories are so weird they are funny. And some are not. The book has stories like a man who caught such a big fish that the picture weighed 20 pounds. And some of tall tales you have probably heard before. I liked the book because I like tall tales and funney stories. The stories are pretty short. The longest story is about four pages long. In the book there are about 25 stories. I would recommend this book to K-5 grades who like lies.

A Great Read for All Fans of Creepy Stories
This second Scary Stories book by Alvin Schwartz is almost as good as the first title. The stories are great to read to yourself or young ones. The creepy drawings by Stephen Gammell add so much more detail to each story -- in short they are excellent. In all this book is lots of fun for all ages that are interested in scary stories from folklore.

Get the series! Terrifying, but fun for everybody!
I am a big fan of horror movies and books, and I cant believe how scary Alvin Schwartz's books are! Mr. Schwartz brings that feeling of fear that comes from your own imagination of the horrific characters within each story, plus adds that extra "kick", or fuel with the accompanying fearsome art by Steven Gammel, included with each story. These stories bring you back to those campfire stories told by friends and family huddled close with only the solitary light of a campfire or flashlight... you know, the ones that make you "jump" at the end! 5 stars to Mr. Schwartz and artist Steven Gammel!

Stories To Scare The Love Out Of You!
I've had this audio book ever since I was in my sophmore in High School. I like this book because of the dark stories. I supposed that Midnight Syndicate's blood-chilling music can be used for this one. I like all the stories including One Sunday Morning, Sounds, The Church, The Bad News, The Bride, Somebody Fell From Aloft, Something Was Wrong, The Curse, Thumpity Thump, and A Weird, Blue Light. For the story of One Sunday Morning! you should have Midnight Syndicate's leagens Of The Dead! because in that story about how a girl winds up in a church service! only to turn out that it was a service for the dead. I'm sorry if I've ruined it for you. I won't ruin it anymore, but If you want to have nightmares! then this is for you. So enjoy your last days of love! because these scary stories will put an end to it. If you and your beloved want to be scared of each other! Then this is for you. I've got you. Wahahahahahahahaha!.
