The ONLY way the teeth get brushed at night
This book has taught our child how to brush her teeth independently. She follows the demonstration of each child on every page. The book is written well for very young children. A very quick read. One sentence for each step. It is a permanent book in our library

Excellent Reading for Beginning First Grade
Gail Saunders-Smith does an excellent job of showing the cycle of growing sunflowers in photos and text. The text is simple and supported by the beautiful, detailed photos which makes it an easy read for beginning first graders. Sunflowers is a well organized information book. It would make a great addition to any child's bookshelf.

Gross pictures... but good book for children
This book has some really gross pictures, however, I am pretty grossed out by bugs of all kinds... so this was a bit much for me. When my daughter brought this home from her school library, I really dreaded reading it to her and seeing all the pictures. I think that's why she got it, cause she always laughs at my reaction when I see any kind of insect. However, this book was good for new readers, and she was quickly able to read me the entire book with ease. There were not many challenging words for my 5 year old daughter.

dolphins
A total of 44 words are used to describe the dolphin and how it lives. The beautiful photographs make this a very appealing book for the early and emergent readers. There is a table of contents, glossary, bibliography, recommended web sites, and an index/word list.

Quite good... for early readers
This is actually quite good, but the pictures are not too attractive... of course, I'm a little turned off by bugs in general. My daughter brought this one home from the school library and found it quite easy to read on her own, needing very little help from me. This is a very good book for early readers, as there are few words on each page... and they are rather simple. I read this to my daughter first, then she read it back to me... and I found she was memorizing it... since there is only a sentence on each page, don't read it to the new reader but have them read it to you. The hardest word is ladybug, but they'll know that one just by the pictures. Otherwise, this book provides some simple facts about the insect that my child remembered much later when I asked about it again.

Islanders in the Stream: A History of the Bahamian People: From Aboriginal Times to the End of Slavery

nders In The Stream
As a veteran of five trips to the Bahamas with my wife, I would recommend this book as an in depth detailed historical work about the Bahamas.

Many things in the book explain the modern make up of the Bahamas; such as English names from the American loyalists who arrived after the American Revolution and the mixed agricultural results which are still a problem today due to the difficulty of growing crops in very inhospitable soil.

As mentioned in the book they grow pineapples on Eluthera brought there by some displaced Germans. (We had some of these pineapples and they are wonderfully sweet)!

Unfortunatly the authors talk little about the Abacos which have at least as colorful a history as Eleuthera and I feel that is a minor negative. The coverge of the pirate era is very detailed and interesting while the records and descriptions of slavery paint a sad picture of that time.

Costumes--not what you might expect
Don't be fooled--This book is NOT a how-to guide. There are no ideas or instructions to be had here. It's an easy reader, and a pretty stupid one at that. Nothing interesting or clever about the text. Just the requisite (very) limited vocabulary and boring sentence structure. I always figure that kids introduced to reading with this type of book probably die of boredom or give up in disgust before they crack the literary code!
