Yawn
I wish it had some scary stories.

my new favorite editor
This massive volume (and his new Redshift), will put Al Sarrantonio on the list of all time great speculative fiction editors. Al's strength is his ability to serve up story after story (by THE cutting edge authors of today no less) that represent the best of what horror and suspense has to offer. Diverse favorites like Powers, Gaiman, Disch, and King mingle with odd-balls like MM Smith and Lansdale to create this destine to be classic anthology. Highly Recomended

Don't bother
Don't bother with this pointless, stupid book. It's just the tale of the two main bad guys committing ever more terrible and horrible murders, technology that ignores the laws of physics and doesn't sound good doing it, and strange godlike beings who do absolutely nothing for the plot

Good Stuff
Sarrantonio does an excellent job with visuals and characters. The Wrath Pei character is fascinating, and the story is just a captivating tale of space fantasy. It is among the best I have ever read.

I've read better...
but I've read worse too. That's why this effort from Sarrantonio receives no more than 3 stars from me. The plot lacks consistency and character development is very weak. (Possibly because the author only used 180 pages to tell his story.) For a good book, albeit rather weird one from Sarrantonio, try "Skeletons". If you like Richard Laymon you'll feel right at home.

If not funny, then informative
A good book to have. Not all the stories are all that funny, but when they're not, they're informative in a way that they give you an insight into that author's sense of humor. Michael O'Donoghue's and Dave Barry's stories really cracked me up.

What an embarrassment!
The blurb on the back jacket said this author was nominated for several writing awards. My questions is "HOW?!?!?!" This book has nothing going for it, other than the cover art. The characterizations are horrible, the "plot" is worse. I'm sorry to say I wasted my time and money buying and reading this. It's an insult to the world of Babylon 5, and I wish there was a way JMS could remove his name from it.

were they nuts?
In the cosmic scheme of things, this is Babylon 5's "Way to Eden" .... a piece of drivel so profound it should never have even touched paper. The *ONLY* reason to have a copy of this trash is to complete your babylon 5 collection. and even then, put it as far to the back of the shelf as you can.

The longest chapter in the "book" is about 3 pages. The publisher - by formatting the book slightly differant - could have shortened this to approximately 80 pages, just by having all the chapters edited together, so that instead of having a chapter that is about 10 lines long (and I'm serious here) then almost a full blank page, and going to a new chapter on the next page.

The writing is - at best - sophomoric. What was the point of the james bond theme, other than to stretch out what would have made a passable short story into a borefest?

I'm still trying to figure out how someone with the writing style shown here could have possibly won an award for anything ... yet according to the back cover he has won a number of them. Perhaps he was suffering from something during the writing process ... or was pushed for a deadline and only had an hour to write it?

One more thing. What was the point of Lyndisty?

Okay as a stand-alone.
This is not a Babylon 5 book. Aside from the names, locations and background, this has nothing to do with my favourite TV series. The characters are total inventions - I didn't recognise any of them - and it has no regard for the continuity of the series.

It'd be okay as a stand alone novel, totally unconnected with anything else, but as a Babylon 5 novel, it falls down badly. My suggestion: If you're a B5 fan, look somewhere else. If you're just looking for a bit of light entertainment that you can pick up and put down at a moments notice, give it a go.
