Excellent for the Classroom
The Long Way to a New Land and The Long Way Westward are companion books that chronicle a family's journey from their Swedish farm, which is suffering from an extended drought, to a new home in Minnesota. The books describe the difficulty and dangers of the journey in a way that is non-complaining and full of optimism for a new life in America. Teachers, these books are wonderful for integrating with other subjects and topics, such as immigration, westward expansion, steamships, trains, geography, and American life in the 1860s.

Full-color ink drawings evoke awe and the imagination
Written and illustrated by Lena Landstrom, The New Hippos is a thoroughly enjoyable picture book story about adapting to new neighbors. When new hippos come, it causes consternation among the existing hippo families, but when the newcomer hippo kids disappear, it is up to the neighbor hippo kids to find them. Full-color ink drawings evoke awe and the imagination in this delightful tale which is ideal for children preschool through first grade.

True Pioneer Story!
Teaching about pioneers? This is a great book to enrich the study of pioneer life! A true story that has water color illustrations that give the feel of the period, I highly recommend this book for grades 1-3. Kids love bears, so there is a natural hook right there! Excellent!

Interesting and enjoyable for the whole family
Snowshoe Thompson is a wonderful book about an immigrant who has helped a young boy communicate with his father. This book has kept the interest of our 1/2 year old and 3 year old during our night time story reading ritual. Having read it at least 100 times, I am still delighted to read it to our boys.

Bring back childhood memories...
I am a thirty-four year old teacher and mother of two. One ofmy favorite childhood memories was when we had a snow day from schooland I spent the whole day curled up with hot chocolate, an electric blanket, and A Year in the Life of Rosie Bernard. I loved the book so much that I read it over and over. This is a very touching tale of a heroic little girl. It is a timeless story for any avid reader young or old. END

Boo and Baa Cause Much HA-HA!
While I often agree with the Horn Book's reviews they are dead wrong about the Boo and Baa series. Children love them. The pictures are very sweet and easy to understand and the plot easy to follow. Kids laugh aloud at these books. The "other sheep" books (you know, Sheep in a Jeep, etc.) are really more for adults. Little kids don't really understand the cleverness of the prose of those books. Boo and Baa they get. My 16 month old son learned many words from Boo and Baa in Windy Weather and he and his friends love the book. Get these books for kids under 3-- they are just delightful!
Charming!
This book is a little gem that will warm the hearts of both children and adults alike. It's refreshing because of its extremely sweet and simple storyline. But what really endears this book to you are its illustrations. I fell in love with Boo and Baa. Their expressions alone need no words. I own several of the Boo and Baa series and I don't even have children! Being a struggling children's book author, I can say that the B & B series are perfect in its simplicity. Your children will adore them. I certainly plan on reading them to my children one day.
Boo and Baa are great for children
I gave this book to my nephew almost 2 years ago, and he still begs my brother to read it to him now. He loves it. The reason I bought it was because I thought it was a cute little story, but also because of its simplicity. Too many children's books focus on manners, emotions, or just off-the-wall fantasy. Boo and Baa are fun, and they like to do projects at home, which gives this story a safe, comfortable, at home qualtiy.

A wild Australian boy and his animal accomplices
Arch, witty fable very loosely based on stories about the great Australian bushrangers (outlaws, cattlerustlers) such as Ned Kelly with comical domestic and international incidents and a variety of animals, all with strong personalities, in the gang. Wonderful for children 6-11, both girls and boys. Nicely written.
The Fantastic Story Of Midnite. And it's a bloody good book.
This book is set in western Australia, The characters cosist of Midnite and his 4 animal friends Khat a very intelligent siamese cat, a very cheaky dog, Major a handsome cockatoo and red Ned Midnites trusty horse. I liked the book because it was not just blood and guts and it got more exiting and funniyer towards the end. I would recomend this book to kids aged betwween 9 to 14. It was definently one of the best books i have read and is a bloody good book.
Deightful little book!
The story of Captain Midnight and his band of faithful (animal) followers is an absolute delight. It is one of the most wonderful children's books ever written, and all adults should share it with their children. If you don't have any children, and if you don't even like them, treat yourself to the book anyway. It's a hoot!
Our hero is a bush ranger, like a highway man, though this is almost by default, and he is a very reluctant and to a certain extent inept bad guy. The other characters are equally delightful, especially his feline confederate, the siamese cat Khat, and the depictions of the Australian bush and the times in which they live are wonderful.
It is funny, it is enchanting, and I cannot reccommend it highly enough!

HILL OF FIRE
I think you should read. Hill of Fire. It is very good. I like the middle part. My favorite part is when the volcano erupts. I think you should read this book.
The hill of fire
I thought this book was really good. If you read my report l think you should read the book. It is about a man and his boy. His father is a farmer and one day the boy comes out and helps his father. Then they hit the top of a volcano. Which is in the ground and it destroys everything. Then they rebuild everything.
Simple and Good
Hill of Fire tells the true story of a Mexican farmer who encounters the beginnings of a volcano in his corn field. The vocabulary is very easy, and yet the author captures the mood of the sleepy village that was changed forever by El Monstruo. I recommend this book to teachers of grades 2 and 3 and to children who are just moving away from picture books.

OK for the very young
This book reads much like "Dick and Jane," but it would be cute for 2-4 year olds. Most of the story is told by the pictures. Boo and Baa hunt for blueberries. Initially unsuccessful, they stop for a picnic. Their encounter with ants is amusing, but it will not endear children to these important insects. The ending line has the potential to prejudice young minds against ants. However, Boo and Baa are able to solve their own problems. Overall this book encourages little ones to explore and use problem-solving skills.
To appreciate you must understand the world of Boo and Baa
My 2-year-old daughter owns every Boo and Baa book and she loves them all. Just tonight as the lights went out she wanted to know what happened to the ant on Boo's sandwich, a la "Boo and Baa in the Woods." Through her delight for these sheep I have learned that they are great models of cooperation, optimism and good humor. Frankly the humor went over my head until she showed me the light. Captivating simple stories for two-year-olds. Buy them!
Such lovable little sheep!
The Boo and Baa books are perfect for little readers - and the adults reading to them! The storylines revolve around everyday activities that little ones can relate to, and there is always a little bit of adventure, and plenty of humour in them - which makes the 4,536th reading bearable for the adult! The text is short but to the point, and can easily be elaborated on by the adult reader. The pictures are absolutely brilliant in their simplicity, but if you really look at them you will find plenty to talk about with your little ones. The facial expressions of these rather clueless little sheep are priceless! Get to know Boo and Baa - and fall in love!
