Interesting Concept
I like this book because of the fact that it's format is not traditional. I love seeing interesting subjects, such as the planets, presented in an interesting way so as to capture both the child's and adult's imagination. This book does it all. The illustrator, Arthur L'Hommedieu, shows us the planets - and asteriods! - from the sun's view, in perspective, as a tunnel. You open up the book to a vivid view of the solar system, then page by page read pertinent information on each planet, as well as getting a single view of it. Stretch the book out a little, as it is accordion-style, for a stunning 3-D view! I recommend this over any other children's book on the planets. It's not a dry rehashing of scientific information - it's FUN!

Breathtaking! *Ü*
"Children of the Sun" is one of a kind. It's fascinating - for the children as well as the adults, for the facts stated in it are not common knowledge that is easily obtained, but a product of extensive research, outlined in a comprehensive and assesible manner. The artwork is simply splendid! It is colorful, which would most certainly appeal to the children, but it is also educational and realistic and may be helpful to teenagers and even adults. The paper engineering composing the book is simply unique. It allows it to be Child's play, as well as the educational instrument. Applause to Mr. Arthur J. L'Hommendieu!

L'Hommedieu's Bats
Another fun pop up book has come from Child's Play. If I were a kid I would love this book. 3-D images of all sorts of bats, along with an informative text and brilliant illustration make this book, along with the others in the "Misunderstood" series, a must-have. My nieces and friend's children all love this book. It's also a pleasant surprise to find, on the back, drawing of all of the different species of bats. This book is great for any age, from kids to grown up bat lovers!

`You're A Cold Fish, Harry.'
This is the story of a former mercenary named Harry Exton who is recruited by an old compadre into a `game' in which soldiers of fortune are sponsored by wealthy investors (called Voices, because they're only heard on the telephone) to fight it out gladiatorial style in a variety of settings, from the nighted English countryside, to an abandoned tenement, to the very streets of London. There's a lot of `dosh' to be made, but Harry doesn't like being boxed in. After a particularly deadly game, on a whim to test his Voice, he wonders aloud what would happen if he were to up and quit. That's enough for the Voices, and in the very next game Harry is set up for the kill. But Harry X is a lot more resourceful than they think...

This is a great thriller which is bookended by a wounded Harry telling his incredible story to the doctor treating him. While the concept sounds like Hard Target, forget that bit of fluff. This is an extremely well crafted bit of British noir. The action is completely believable (if surpassingly violent at times). There are no slow mo two gun jumps from the fireball here. This is hard hitting, driven plotboiler with a lace of cool. The characters are as hard boiled as they come, and the story culminates in a classic twist.

The art here is gritty and realistic - perfectly married to the writing. And is it just me or does Harry look a great deal like Sean Bean?

Buy this if you can get it - it delivers.

A great choice for the dinosaur-loving kid
My son (just six) has been crazy about dinosaurs for three years, and it has become increasingly difficult to find books with unfamiliar information that are also not too far beyond his comprehension. This book fills the bill beautifully, building on his existing knowledge and stretching him to see the dinosaurs in context. It combines the easy charm of a pop-up book with the sophistication of a geologic chart. We have also been thrilled with From Dinosaurs to Dodos by Lessem.

My audiance loved it!
...

Timeless myth takes a new reality in this beautifully illustrated version of THE TOOTH FAIRY: THE TOUCH OF KINDNESS. Concealed within an entertaining story about young Piper Noble are a number of lessons that parents will appreciate. For example, children learn about the power of love, of accepting other differences, and respect for all people.

Having tried this book on an audience ages five and eight, THE TOOTH FAIRY LEGEND is a hit! My young audiance loved the mustic aand narration on the accompanying CDs, and enjoyed following along with the text in the book. They were entranced by the story, and talked about it for days. As a professional caregiver, I appreciated the opportunity for them to enjoy a long story without the TV that we usually have going. For a terrific story accompanied by the beautiful music and marvelous illustrations, THE TOOTH FAIRY LEGEND; THE TOUCH OF KINDNESS comes very highly recommended.

tooth fairy review
This wonderful book was very entertaining and my children loved reading along with the accompanying CDs. The music and the illustrations were beautifully done and gave life to the characters in this new spin of the Tooth Fairy story. This is a great modern update to a timeless legend. Kudos to Long and Meyer.

The Legend Lives
As a teacher of elementary-age school children, I was delighted to read Long and Meyer's "Touch of Kindness." The sensitivity with which the subject matter was treated was an important issue for me. I teach children who are struggling to understand and cope with the fear of some strange winged creature entering their bedrooms to retrieve teeth in the middle of the night. How wonderful that a book finally exists that explains it all in a humorous and yet adventurous manner. The book should keep any youngster on the edge of his or her seat. The fact that the book is chaptered allows someone in my capacity to take time with the telling of the story and ask and answer a multitude of questions that will certainly surface in the classroom. And the read-along, sing-along CD's that are provided as an extra bonus will allow for some more than pleasurable moments in the "reading corner." In addition, the art work adds incredible dimension to the storyline. I can't wait to get back to work in September and introduce my new class to the wonderful, creative minds of Long and Meyer and the special world of "The Legend of the Tooth Fairy."
