Six Stars!
An excellent first hand narrative with lively and descriptive writing by one of the first pioneers to help settle the untamed Northwest. Alexander Ross joined Astor's Pacific Fur Company expedition in 1810 and this is his story of the day to day struggles which he and the other men had to overcome. He left New York on the soon to be ill-fated, doomed ship the Tonquin, with a pompous and overbearing Captain Thorn. They sailed around the tip of South America, then to Hawaii and finally to the mouth of the Columbia River, all the while prevailing over many hardships during this voyage. Upon landing and without delay, the men began to construct the trading post Astoria. Ross' detailed descriptions of their adventures amidst the forces of Mother Nature, Indian relations, the Northwest Fur Company, geography, etc. makes this book a real page turner. They all had many obstacles to overcome, and as I said, his writing skills are exemplary. He devotes the last few chapters to the culture and customs of one of the local Indian tribes. The man was a keen and acute observer of all his surroundings and this is an energetic effort on his part to put it in writing.

A thorough and enlightened discussion of a complicated topic
Dr. Furth does an excellent job of bringing light and understanding to a difficult subject, giving hope and compassion to those who suffer from this disorder and making great strides towards enlightening those who hold unfair prejudices against those afflicted. This book is a must for anyone who suffers from apotemnophilia, for anyone who loves an apotemnophiliac and for professional therapists who have shown ignorance in the face of a client's very real plight. Many compliments to the author for taking a stand and for fighting the good fight.

Funniest book I've read this year!
Couldn't put it down. Was really fast-paced and funny in a whacky sort of way. Reminded me of the movie "Office Space." The characters were well-potrayed.

THE COMPLETE SID JAMES

Also the REAL Sid James...!
As well as being a wonderful encyclopaedia of all Sid's work and everything he ever appeared in, this book also sets the record straight about the kind of person Sid really was.

There have been a number of insulting stories surrounding Sid's life, habits, and personality, but this book shows him to be every bit the loveable rogue that we see on film - as well as, of course, being human.

Robert Ross has gone to great lengths to interview the people who knew Sid and were closest to him, and therefore this book can safely claim to portray the truth.

For fans of Stephen King, Bentley Little and Dean Koontz
Church Falls is a complacent town on Cape Cod that obtains much of its income from tourists. Nate Tuck has found a haven in Church Falls after shooting a fourteen-year-old gangster in Oakland and when the chief retires he is expected to be the next Sheriff. Nate doesn't know that once every generation an outsider instigates the townsfolk into turning against one another and the cycle is about to begin again.

Victoria Kennelly broke the last cycle of hate when she told the residents that they were wrong to try to expel students suffering with AIDS. A few days later, while trick or treating with her friend Petey, her family and home burst into flames and Petey disappeared, his body never found. Now Victoria feels compelled to return to her hometown because evil has reappeared. Violence, hate crimes and murder have begun again. Nate has a hard time believing these incidents are based on the supernatural but offers no counter explanation.

Fans of Stephen King, Bentley Little and Dean Koontz are going to treasure DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES, a supernatural thriller that is so scary readers will go to bed with so much lighting on that a lit up stadium at night will seem dim in comparison. Victoria and Nate are polar opposites with one grounded in reality and the other accepting that sometimes the only explanation is mired in the supernatural. Using both logic systems, they combine forces to fight the evil that is destroying the town from the inside out. Robert Ross deserves a Bram Stoker nomination for this chilling horror novel.

One of the best books I've ever read!!!
Fatal Volley is perhaps one of the finest books I've ever read. It is fast paced, well researched and completely compelling - I finished it in 3 days because I absolutely could not put it down. The author does an excellent job of moving from Nazi Germany to 1950's Chicago to modern day Las Vegas, always keeping the reader intrigued and truly interested in the development of the story and resolution of its the characters' issues. We've all wanted to slash the throats of nazis; this book lets us do it without getting our hands dirty. A must read for all literary enthusiasts.
