This is the perfect book for counselors and other mental health professionals who want up to date information about ADD/ADHD. The way the book is written makes it an excellent referrence for parents and families who are living with a child, or children with ADHD. Parents and teachers can simply turn to the chapter or chapters that deal with pertinent information for their situation. Despite this format, the book is no less cohesive or interesting to read cover-to-cover. I recommend this book without reservation.

I loved the easy-to-read format and the breadth and depth of the information. A definite go-to handbook for parents of ADD children who are trying to get appropriate services for thier children. Loaded with insights and humor that help me understand and communicate effectively with my son AND his teachers. and my husband and the grandparents....highly recommended.

I am a special education teacher with many ADHD students. I found this book very helpful in the classroom setting. I also have a parent group for their ADHD children and this was our text used in the group. It is easy to read for parents and teachers.

This collection of articles is one of the best available in phil. of mind. Its range and completeness is amazing, starting from selections of Descartes, Locke and Reid up to papers on eliminative materialism and machine functionalism. I'd definitely recommend this for anybody willing to get serious about the subject. If you haven't already studied the papers contained here, do it, for they 're absolutely fundamental to our current understanding of the problems in the phil. of mind.

Rosenthal's collection is one the best available. It presents some of the most important articles in the field, articles that forged what we understand as philosophy of mind today. It starts with selections from Descartes, Locke and Reid and dives into the most important contemporary discussions on the subject. Every chapter has an introduction that poses the problem to be discussed in the selections or articles. The bibliography is also very helpful. Any student aiming to understand today's specialized discussions has to read what Rosenthal has selected. I would recomend this to advanced undergrad and grad students, for unexperienced undergrads might have to work very, very hard to use this book. Kim's introduction is an excellent companion to this book and will definetely help. If you want to study phil. of mind seriously it is highly advisable that you start working with the articles contained in this book.

This book by Hildebrand is a little gem that I recently discovered in the course of looking up other information. At less than 100 pages, the book is easily overlooked on library shelves, but proves that great things come in small packages. The author presents a clear, concise, and practical exposition of how to analyze ordinal data, and what to do with the results. There is plenty of math for the mathematically inclined, but plenty of practical examples so that non-mathematical researchers can easily perform good analysis of ordinal data. Professional statisticians would, of course, prefer more technical detail, but for those of us "in the trenches" who need to know how to apply statistics, this text is invaluable. I liked the book so much, I bought a copy. What more can I say?

"Our Town" is a poignant and powerful legal thriller. This is perhaps a surprising way to characterize a work by UCal, Berkeley policy wonks, published by one of the lesser known university presses, but this book deserves the widest possible readership. It tells the epic, heroic, heart-rending, and true story of the attempt to bring fair housing policy to New Jersey, the most suburban state in the country, and by extension, the most representative of American housing trends. It tells the story of an attempt by the African-American community of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey - a community whose origins date back to the colonial period - to create affordable housing in what was then, in 1968, a largely rural, white township of southern New Jersey. In response to thier request for the necesary zoning approval, the then mayor of Mt. Laurel (and wealthy farmer and late state senator) William Haines told the black community of Mt. LAurel: "if you people cannot afford to live in our town, then you will have to move." (this is a quotation from memory). The legals battles that followed over the next 25 years were epochal for New Jersey and for the country. This story is an epic (not unlike Jonathan Harr's book about the toxic wazste dumps in Massachusetts, A Civil Action) with genuine heroes such as Ethel Lawrence , the black New Jersey woman who led the fight, and even NJ supreme court justices who saw through the racism of Mt Laurel officials and the subtler but equally insidious intransigence of NJ governor Thomas Kean, who, for my money, is the worst villain of the lot. (I am, by the way, a New Jerseyan myself).Everyone who care about racial justice in America should find this book worthwhile. For an essentialy academic study, it is astonishingly moving. I read it in hardcover, when it first came out, mainly because I was attracted by its stylish cover, but it is the kind of book I actively recommend to my friends and family.

This book is a must read for the historical enthusiast! It was written by a knight about knighthood. The viewpoints and situations are very far removed from our preconceived ideas of the middle ages. It is written very well and reads almost in a 'modern' way. This book was difficult to read in some places, but for the most part was so interesting that I couldn't put it down.

Out of all the books on Gould, this is one of my favorites. I very much enjoyed it, and I believe that anyone who loves Glenn Gould as I do will love this book. :)

I found this book to be the best overall general biography on Glenn Gould. Mr Friedrich did not personally know Gould, so we have what is a good look, objectively, of Gould. He had some very good interviews with some of Glenn's closest friends and those whom he worked with. I've read it more than 4 times. We are not overwhelmed from a Musician's biographical data here, but more of what is percieved through others here. Of Course, Friedrich has some personal views but really helps to move the book along. The biggest surprise is finding out how some individuals coped with having discussions (pre-written by Gould), and their responses prewritten for them....Interesting.
Great Book....

I am a fanatic when it comes to Bach keyboard music, and so Glenn is my hero. This biography is astounding in its depth, breadth, and compassion. The writing is excellent. Read it... full stop.

I read the reviews for the book and decided that it looked interesting and decided to read it. After reading the book in a day, the least that can be said is that it is an amusing book. Even if you are not yet an official member of academia and are just a lowly student, it is very easy to see how some of what is going on in the book also happens in real life. I daresay it also happens in other professions, but I don't have the experience to back that statement up.

Though the book is very fun to read, some of the themes could have been better developed. For example, the idea that by destroying all of Adam Snell's work would eliminate him from history could have been taken a lot further. PFITZ by Andrew Crumey plays with many similar ideas concerning the creation of a character and the possibility of being forgotten with the elimination of one's work, and PFITZ is better in that respect. Also, the reasoning behind the attacks by Underwood is fairly lame.

Even though the book is not perfect it still has many good qualities and if you're looking for a book to enjoy during the beautiful spring weather, you won't be disappointed with this one.

It will be a sad day when this novel goes out of print. (Read Book and you'll understand.) The satire is specific to English departments, but anyone who hates pretension or who has dealt with the inside politics of higher education will really savor it. The writing is clever and inventive, a pleasure to read from the very first page.

After 20 years in academia, BOOK exloded the political nuances of my experience into raucous humor. I laughed til I couldn't laugh any more and I have given away multiple copies, including one to a University president.

If you want to learn more about yourself while having fun at the same time, I recommend this book. Some of the questions come up with quick and simple answers, and others will have you thinking for hours. I am going to order every book in this series because I was very impressed with this book!

This book can really get your brain stimulated. It's great for conversation with others or yourself. It really makes you think about what is important in your life and what would you do if....? There are numerous answers that can be given and it's fun to ask them to friends to see what they would say and why.

When I first came upon this book, I picked it up and read the title out loud, thinking to my self what is this? I opened the book and read the first question on that particular page I had opened it up on. I stood there, thinking for what was probably 2 minutes for an answer, and became so involved in the book I answered to myself the next 3 questions on the page. I decided to buy the book, thinking this would be a great small party game, for couples and for your own self enjoyment!! Definatly a great book to add to your collection.

Author Peter Lefcourt has created a good, funny and enjoyable novel. Professional Baseballall Payer Randy Dreyfus falls in love with his second baseman, D.J. When the two are caught shaing a kiss on security videotape at Neimun Marcus, all hell breaks loose and damage control is called in. The rest of the novel is not only and engaging story but also a hidden humorous social commentaty on gay men in professional sports. The fact that the white, male hero has fallen in love with his black second baseman will more than raise a few eyebrows for some readers. Lefcourt captures the homophobia and hysteria generated by this perfectly. My only drawback to the book is that the sections dealing with Randy's wife, Susie seem underdeveloped and she seems to fade away and out by the end of the book... Recently, I have heard people say that gay men in Sports are no big deal. After reading this book I'm not so sure. True, this is a work of fiction, but Lefcourt a created an honest and truthful home run.

i've never been much of a reader, but i finished this book in two days; a record by far for me. not only is this book a unique and touching love story, but it also has numerous, funny bone tickling laughs. i couldn't help but smile many a time. Lefcourt is a great author, and he truly made me feel a great deal of emotion for all the main characters. this is gonna make one hell of a movie.. i highly recomend this book. wow wow wow.

I never thought I would be interested in a story about baseball players! This love story uses its setting to great benefit, it helps to define who these guys are. At an age (mid-twenties) when most guys would not have much to lose professionally by coming out, these ball-players are already well into their high-paying and very public careers. The weight that this adds to what is at its core a love story is not crucial, but very valuable. I loved this book and could not put it down. I wanted so much to keep the feelings I got from the book with me that I bought what can only be described as its soundtrack album, Frank Sinatra's "Songs for Swinging Lovers". Every time I listen to the CD, I think of Randy and D.J. and it makes me happy!
