Not a bad read, though somewhat dated.
K.M. Peyton, author of the fabulous Pennington novels, also wrote some stories with supernatural ghost-type characters. "A Pattern of Roses" is a spooky though not-particularly-memorable book about the relationship between young Tim Ingram and his new-found acquaintance Tom Inskip, a 16-year-old artist and farmer's son who died in 1910. Tom also has a living girl friend who helps him sort out the mysterious similarities between himself and the dead Tim, and the differences between himself and his middle-class parents. Set in the English countryside, 1972.

More WhoDoo VooDoo PooPoo....
A warmed-over "channeled spirits" tale. What better way to get one more squeeze out of the old channeling teat then to add space aliens?? The human capacity for self-delusion is matched only by that for exploiting the deluded. Dave rates it one and a half Prozacs(tm).
From Sirius to Earth, review
Most decidedly not your usual book. Nor is it fictional. Dr. Fuqua undertook a new type of journey and exercised great care to present her findings in an accurate manner. For those of you studying the essence of what constitutes consciousness, and the essence of "Being" itself, this book is well worth the read. And for those of you sensitive to the actual subtleties of essence within one's "Being", you may find that your awareness of self expands and deepens. I am privileged to know the one called ATHOR, and invite you to read the book opening your heart and mind to its implications.

The worst of the worst!
This is possibly the worst V.C. Andrews book I have ever read (it and Cinnemon are in a close race), and it is definitely in the worst series. I don't know why I continue reading these mini-series books when I know they are all basically the same book rewritten with new characters. Like other Andrews characters, Rose has to deal with the death of a parent, the self-centeredness of another parent, and meeting relatives she never knew she had. Sounds really familiar, doesn't it? Unlike the original Andrews books, where the writing was so descriptive that I could almost feel like I was there living through the events along with the characters (and did not want to put the book down for anything), the new books are so bland that it is a chore just to finish one chapter.
Almost interesting...almost...
How very convenient that Rose should have some hidden, secret *rich* relative. What is it with the ghost writers borrowing from V.C.'s *excellent* stories and trying to pass them off? They could have tried a LITTLE harder than that when Rose's aunt sought "revenge" on Rose's mother. I think they reached a little too far when it came to her anti-social brother. They tried too hard, it seemed. This book was okay, but I'm almost sorry I paid for it instead of going to the library.
Rose
Lovely, talented, and innocent, Rose was loved and cherished by her father. His death, whether it was an accident or suicide, left behind secrets that have been hidden all their lives. Soon the doors to his many secrets opened and changed Roses "normal" teenage life in Lewisville, Georgia. It leads her and her mother into a fantasy life that wasn't as good as it seemed. Roses mother gets caught up in this luxury life that wasn't true and caused her to become someone she isn't. Roses mother soon forgets the value of life and that love and family is priceless and worth more than the world she is caught up in. Rose meets people that help her live the life that she had always only dreamed of, they give her hope and faith and the will to make it through. The unexpected happens to Rose. She gets the confidence to succeed, in her new unfamiliar world, from a stranger. I would recommend this book to my friends around my age because the way Roses life changes and also by the way she had to change by the events that happened in her life. I also like the way the novel ends; it ends in a twisted and unexpected way. I don't like the book in a way because some parts have nothing to do with the way Rose struggles through life. I don't think adults or children would enjoy reading this novel. I think the book would have been a lot better if there was more action. The way V.C. Andrews describes the characters was interesting and makes you wonder about their personality, it draws you in. I overall think this was a good novel.
