I love Carol Orsborn's interview
I am a big fan of Carol Orsborn's books (including "Inner Excellence at Work: The Path to Meaning, Spirit and Success.") It's great to read her in an informal interview with the folks at New Dimensions. They really capture the flavor of her wisdom and advice. All the authors who are featured make an important contribution to the field of spirituality and business. Read this book!

Poetic anarchy for children and adults to enjoy together
The best possible book of poetry for children, this collection features funny, anarchic poems that will crack up children and adults. This was my favourite book of poems as a child and twenty years later it's just as great. A great resource for teaching kids (or adults) that poetry can be about bus tickets and imaginary policemen, not just hearts and flowers.

DOES the government want to keep this book from the public??
doesn't rank 5 stars, not one of my all-time favorites, however; i read this book 10 yrs ago, loaned it to a friend, never got it back and have been looking for it ever since. this is a provocative, interesting theory that i have not seen discussed in such detail anywhere else. while i am unable to authenticate the validity of the scientific premises, (the book IS fiction) the concept is fascinating. definitely suggest it to others, and would like to recover a copy for myself..

Let Amazon invent a title, the subjects very sensitive.
With a more lucid and catchy title, and the current and timely interest that's being shown, reprint this book in hard cover and see it explode into a reborn best seller. Michael Rodgers is a formidable story teller when it comes to his metier.

Cecil Ballerino, author of Dangerous Imperatives, Portrait of Mara and fothcoming, The Windermere Hotel.

A must read for anyone interested in genetic engineering!
Is the US Government keeping this book out of print? If you can find a copy to read, you would ask this same question. Some things are better not known.

Will Work for Peace is a triumph of poetic Davids.
As one of the poets featured in Will Work for Peace, one might expect me to be a bit biased, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Most poets work in a virtual vacuum, only tenuously connected to each other by the occasional workshop or shared membership in a 'poetry society'. When Brett Axel first approached me for a submission to an anthology he was considering, the names Marge Piercy, Lyn Lifshin, Moshe Bennaroch and so many others were abstractions to me as a fledgling poet. I knew these tremendous writers were 'out there' somewhere, beating down doors with their words and keeping a struggling artform alive. But to think that someday I would ever share a credit with these dynamic modern poets would be a pipe dream at best. It is through the sincere efforts of Brett Axel that many newer voices like mine have an extraordinary opportunity to appear with Pulitzer Prize winners and other poetic heavyweights. By way of an honest review, however, I will say this- not everything in this book will be to your particular liking. I myself came across some works that did not move me in the way the author may have intended. Some imagery can be raw and visceral, using shock value in place of craft at times. But to ignore those voices would be an even more shocking turn of events, so praise be to the editor for not sacrificing his vision to a senseless conformity. As Pete Seeger so aptly put it in his quote, trying to read all these poems at one time would be like trying 'to swallow Manhattan whole'. I say to you- buy this book, read this book, but understand that it's what you do after reading this book that will ultimately define who you could be. Poetry is alive and well, and lives in the blunt pages of Will Work for Peace.

Thumbs Up
Just amazing start to finish! I like the disregard for fame used in putting the book together. That great poems got in even if they were writtenby nobodys. Look at Roger Bonair-Agard's poem on page 74. Shortly after Will Work For Peace came out he won Slam Nationals, becoming Slam Champion of 1999, which will be getting him lots of offers. But Zeropanik Press didn't need to be told he was good by an award. They could tell by his writing! Good for them and good for all of us because Will Work For Peace is a literary milestone. It's a new standard for all future anthology editors to try to live up to. Thumbs up to Brett Axel and Thumbs up to Zeropanik Press for their guts and integrty.

You have to read this book!
Brett Axel visited my Church and I bought a copy of Will Work For Peace from him, not for poetry, but because I care about working for peace. I started reading through it thinking It'd just go on my shelf and that'd be the end of it, but the book grabbed me and kept me rivited. If I had known that poetry was this alive I'd have been into poetry. I've been reading some of the poems to my friends who also didn't think poetry was important and they are saying the same thing. Fantastic! There's no way to get through this book without having your old mindsets challenged. It's funny, powerful, sad, and uplifting. A book that deserves to be read by everyone. A book that really can make the world a better place!

cotton candy
I'm surprised at the raves for this book. It is well produced. The photos are terrific. But: The building descriptions do little more than cheer-lead. He raves about features which are not illustrated. Most of the buildings only get 4 photos. The plans provided are far too small, usually only one plan is provided, though most of the buildings have more than one level. In at least one case the plans are mislabled. I'd only recommend this book to somebody who only wants a catalog of names. Still waiting for a really good book about mid-century modern architecture. This isn't it.

A Great Book on Great Houses
This is an elegantly presented book on elegant, finely crafted houses...an instant new favorite of mine. Author Michael Webb draws the reader in through his delightful stories of these homes, their original owners, subsequent owners (who, more often than not, misunderstood what they had purchased and, in the process, destroyed these three dimensional works of art), and eventual resurrections by more sympathetic owners. It is an interesting approach (before/after/now) and one quite enjoyable. As a result, the reader becomes emotionally drawn to the pristine creations chronicled by Webb, a type of house that usually comes across as aloof and chilly. The photographs by Roger Straus are splendid and show the homes to advantage (although it would have been nice to see people actually using the rooms). A significant disappointment was the lack of images showing the homes in their "remuddled" state; it is difficult to fully appreciate just how much work went into the rebirth of some of these classics. Nonetheless, Webb and Straus have produced an interesting, informative, and fascinating read about a style of house that has never been presented better. Congratulations to them and to the many intrepid, intelligent owners who bravely undertook such projects.

A Fun Tour of Rarely-Seen Gems
I loved the stories behind each of these houses. I own several books on midcentury mod and this is the first that truly captures the modern aesthetic, from the book's design to the photography to the writing. Excellent!

Old News - The internet hype is nauseating
This book was obviously written at the peak of the internet "Boom". The majority of the companies cited as examples of the onslaught of the new economy are no longer in existence. Earnings are barely mentioned. Companies cited as the movers and shakers of tomorrow are now penny stocks. The total lack of balance relative to other sectors is appalling and in retrospect is by itself educational. Everyone bought into the hype including the entire VC industry. This might explain why they all sat on the sideline in 2001 trying to regain their sense of direction. The entertainment value is a 5 and the educational value a 1. It is your choice.

Must Read for Every Entrepreneur & VC
This book is a must read for every entrepreneur and VC. The snippets of information in it are very valuable even after the downfall of the Internet economy-most of the text is more focused on timeless vc/entrepreneur related issues. I would highly recommend this book...

Good Read-Lots of Great Insight Even After the Shakedown
I was very impressed by the knowledge in this book. It has a ton of useful information for everyone from entrepreneurs to investors to other financial professionals. In addition, the content is fresh and much more applicable to the "after the shakedown" landscape than other venture capital oriented books such as eBoys, Confessions of a Venture Capitalist and Done Deals. This is a great book that has a ton of useful information straight from some very accomplised venture capitalists.

This one won't leave you hanging!
"The Gallows Murders" by Michael Clynes is described as "being the fifth journal of Sir Roger Shallot concerning certain wicked conspiracies and horrible murders perpetuated in the reign of King Henry VIII." And this fifth episode comes as no disappointment to Clynes' readers as his champion, Shallot, rides to the fore and before you can say "Bob's your uncle," the 16th century puzzle is solved!

An interesting character, Shallot describes himself : "I am not a coward. I just run very fast. I am also not a fool," who lives by his favorite maxim: "He who fights and runs away may get out of fighting on another day." And author Clynes makes him the ultimate hero of Tudor England (among his boasts: being special adviser to King Henry VIII and Cardinal Wolsey, confidant of Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn, and lover of Elizabeth I and the father of their "love child." He also claims "ownership" to several of Shakespeare's best lines. The Bard, Shallot, and Kit Marlowe are all drinking and wenching buddies! (An original fairy tale!)

Whatever. What Clynes does, however, is weave a yarn that is entertaining at best; however, the author is quite an authority on medieval England and his expertise is readily apparent in his descriptions of the period. While his concoctions may be historically far-fetched (and far from actuality!), still, his "accounts" offer a literary intrigue (if not a "gossipy account" of the times!) and an enjoyable tale!

In this episode, Shallot finds himself involved in another of Henry's misadventures. The Great Mouldwarp of Merlin's prophecies is ever so insecure about his own kingship and now messages arrive signed and sealed by King Edward V (one of the little "princes of the Tower" of Richard III fame), demanding that Henry pay extortion fees. Henry expects Shallot to solve the problem and clean up the mystery. Intrigue and murder/mayhem follow, one after the other and rivals Act V of "Hamlet" for seeing which has more dead bodies!

Light, light, light, but clever, clever, clever. And amusing. A relaxing afternoon's read!

Monterey: Furnishings of California's Spanish Revival
Nice referane book. Great examples of the product. A must buy book for collectors as well as finge enthusists. Would love to see more great work.

Fun stuff
Roger Renick did a fine job pulling together pieces for the lovely book (and the show at the Santa Monica Historical Society was terrific). Some of the pieces featured are rare treasures, indeed, and it says alot that those who are passionate about Monterey shared their collections. Having written about Monterey Furniture and met some fascinating -- and always fun loving-- collectors, I was happy to see a book on the subject. ...

The wait for a guide to Monterey & Spanish Revival is over!
This wonderful book guides you through the history of Monterey and Spanish Revival furniture in pictures and text. Both Monterey and Spanish Revival styles have been long overlooked in standard furniture guides. This book is straight forward, informative, and contains numerous color photos of furniture, artwork and pottery. A great guide for identification of manufacturers and finishes! The only thing that would possibly make this better is a prce guide.
