Size doesn't matter!
In keeping with the spirit of this collection of short shorts, billed as a "picture book for grownups," I'll try to keep this brief. The stories in this collection, all classified under one of four catagories (Love Stories, Crime and Mystery, Not Quite S.F., and Off the Wall) are consistently intriguing, running the gamut from subtle to brash, outrageous to poignant, macabre to mundane. Flensed of unnecessary detail, Rogers ' telling vignettes force readers to fill in the blanks, allowing their own points of view to act upon the prose. Thus, the reading experience is transformed into a true collaborative effort, a joint venture where Rogers' imagination blends with that of his audience. Forsaking the luxury of a slow buildup, Rogers plunges his readers into various worlds, makes his points, then leaves as quickly as he came, leaving the reader to marvel at what he has just experienced. The stories in Flaming Arrows affirm that reading is indeed alchemy, proving once and for all that, at least in writing, size doesn't matter. It's a lesson that many of Rogers' peers need to learn.

"Computer definitions that get you marks"
This, folks, is the reference book for my A Level Students.

A Level is the main exam route taking in the UK for entry into Universities.

The continual rapid development of computer technology means it is a nightmare trying to keep up with terminology and acronymns. This glossary has the defintions the examiners will accept. Very useful when different text books all have their own definitons.

The 4star rating rather than 5 is a reflection of the date of issue of this glossary. There must be another one on its way soon, we sure need it.

This book could revolutionize the teaching of English
Thought this practical insight into making books accessible to all students and having them connect with the greats is worth any Language Arts' teachers' time and effort to read and digest the gems in this anti-text book. It sure has made me think in new ways about the teaching of literature.

A side of Tudors not often covered
The descendants of William the Conqueror remained on the throne in England until the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, and while the victor, crowned Henry VII, had Lancastrian ancestry to give legitimacy to his claims, he founded what was more or less a new dynasty. And while there have been a great many books written about the three Tudor generations in power, not much has been published in accessible form on their deeply Welsh roots. Professor Griffiths pays special attention to the activities of Henry Tudor and his near relatives in exile, of particular interest (to me) are the several excellent chapters on the Celtic genesis of the family, the connection with Owen Glendower, and the marriage connections they established.

Useful Guide on Small Museums
This book provides a really useful guide for organizations on how to manage small museums, as it covers basic topics such as the acquisition of items, accessioning, accession number systems and documentation. When doing research on how to manage our church's heritage exhibition, the book was one of the few books on the subject that we were able to find, and certainly the most up-to-date one. We have not followed exactly what was suggested in the book, but have found the advice given useful for adapting to our purposes.

Reply to 'A reader from La Paz'
I was saddened by this review. As author of Footprint's Bolivia Handbook, and someone who lived in La Paz for a while, I have a deep affection for the country and its people. The accusation that I "speak in a very bad way" about the country is deeply offensive and shows that the reader hasn't bothered to read the text thoroughly before sharing their views. This guidebook is by no means perfect - no guidebook every can be - but at least it strives to be honest. Sometimes, unfortunately, certain people take exception to this policy.

A top drawer travel guide
A top drawer travel guide should not only give you relyable facts and information on the country you are going to, but paint pictures, tell stories and capture your imagination while stimulating your desire to go and explore.

The Bolivia handbook does all of these and more. Murphy's section on Culture is the best anthopological treatment in travel handbooks on the market today. He has a few week areas, but they are minor. His section "Responsible Tourism" (Eco-Tourism) could stand more in depth treatment of the state of ecology.

And, a personal area of irritation, especial for a "Yank", is Murphy (who is English) elected to use only the metric system, forgetting that most Americans have yet to grasp metric conversion. Thus, Lake Titicaca covers 8,300 sq. km., rises 5m each season and have temptures that get down to -25C. Hum. Recommended.

for the beginning and seasoned traveller. . .
I really enjoyed this travel book: Even though my family-in-law is Bolivian, this book still offered new information (to them and me) and really helped me get around. Lots of practical info on banks and restaurants for the seasoned traveller. The best part is all the historical and cultural information which is an interesting read in itself. Very up-to-date with funny descriptions of some of the more adventurous activities in Bolivia. Highly recommended.

2000.0 stars to Magnitude 8.0
This is NOT to be purchased unless you are very advanced in astronomy. I was hoping for a rework of the "New General Catalog" and this, as a gift, was way beyond me. I feel the description of this tomb should reflect its complexity

Detailed Data
I bought this book because I was looking for a reference for all the double stars and deep sky objects shown in SkyAtlas 2000.0 charts that I could not find listed or old coordinates used in Burnham's Celestial Handbook made difficult to tell which is which. This is the one. For every object I am looking for data, this reference shows the mag, size, seperation. For galaxies it also lists the brightness, which is usefull and will help you to understand why you have spent endless nights searching for a mag 9.5 galaxy only to discover it's brightness is only mag 10.5 because it's light is spread over such a wide area. This is not a star chart format book, it is a data reference listed in order of RA for double stars and in order of NGC # for most everything else. There is a notes column that will cross reference the M objects, but you cannot look them up unless you have the NGC #. It's easy really, if you have a good set of charts that you are starting from. If you want to know all about the objects by constellation, get the three books that make up the set of Burnham's. Even though they are 1950 coordianates, the will teach you more than you ever thought you could know about the sky. Use this as a current data reference to fill in the blind spots.

The Best Star Catalogue Ever made!!!!
This book contains hundreds of stars, down and including the magnitude 8.0. It is 99.999% accurate and no smudges! I recomend this book to anyone who is searching the stellar realm of the universe.

Mathematical Elements for Computer Graphics
While written over 24 years ago, I was hoping this book would give me an understanding of the mathematical basis (if not the current state-of-the art;) ) of computer graphics. Despite (arguable to many) years of university math courses, I found this volume merely humbling, rather than enlightening. If you are more comfortable with fairly advanced mathematical notation and concepts than most, especially relative to geometry, you may find this book useful. I found it only marginally useful -- primarilly as a reference to some concepts I had previously been exposed. Best of luck.

Solid Graphics Text
Excellent coverage of matrix transformations. Some I had seen elsewhere, some not. This books real strength is the coverage of splines and patches however. Very readable w/ little procedural seggestion, i.e. implementation left to the reader.

A good intro for Spanish
We want to teach our daughter different languages, and this book is helping. It allows us to read to her and she can pick up on the words and sounds of a different language. Easy to read if you've had some experience reading Spanish. If it's been awhile, you may struggle at first, but keep going, it gets easier and your kids will pick up on the words.

I read this to my daughter as we want her to pick up Spanish. One easy way to do that, is to read to her, and we try and do that as much as possible. This is an easy way for her to pick up the language and sounds. Easy read and intro for little ones.
