Not A Worthy Book For This Series.
This book is one of the weakest in the "Complete Guide" series. This series usually offers good track by track analysis but this particular volume does not. It tries to offer up a lot of band history but you can get that information elsewhere. This is one group which could have benefitted from a discography and track analysis but this book doesn't quite cut it.

I have already known that I read in that boo

Everything but music of the Doors
This book is about almost anything except a musical review of the doors discography. A very good reading for someone who wants to learn about the history of this controversial rock group, the is-jim-morrison-still-alive myth and lots of info about tours and scandals. Everything in a few hours of amusing reading. The weak point is that the book does not include a song x song analysis of the group's discography (as in other books of the series) and it almost ignores the musical side of the thing.

The writing is drivel, but the pictures are nice
After reading the excellently written and extremely well researched "Alias David Bowie", this book is a farce. It has lots of nice big pictures from the Serious Moonlight tour and that is an acceptable reason for buying it. But the person writing it did very little research, and basically has no idea what he's talking about. If you want to know about David Bowie, read "Alias David Bowie" or even "Backstage Passes", which is written by his ex-wife, and which I really quite enjoyed. If you just want some nice David pics, feel free to pick this book up, though. But don't expect any content.

Good only for pics.
Like the previous review, the pics are great but the writing is inane. Great if you are interested in Bowie during the Serious Moonlight period, but that's about it.

Why Knock Rock (Cassette)
Published in Hardcover by Bethany House (June, 1986)
Author: Don Peters
Amazon base price: $7.95
Average review score:

Yeah, right, whatever
The book is a typical anti-rock rant from folks who are so obsessed with what they think God thinks about every little thing that they left their sense of humor & proportion back in the dust. Though their "top ten list of most wanted offenders" (aka "Our Top Ten List of Folks To Harass Until They Believe What We Want Them To Believe") is most unintentionally funny and very outdated, even at the time the book was in print. With all the major problems facing us today, it's somehow refreshing to see people who are still so small-minded...stay focused on Rock, guys. It'll keep you out of the real problems!

An Essential Resource for serious Researchers
The Peters Brothers have gained a reputation for extremist behavior, mostly stemming from their Record Burnings of the 1980s. This reputation is, I believe, largely unearned, as the position taken by the Peters, as is obvious to anyone taking the time to read the book, is one of sound reasoning backed by facts and Scripture references. The reading is a bit sensationalistic at times, and I did find some minor errors (i.e.,the "Obituraries" section of the book listed Felix Pappalardi as the drummer for "Mountain" when he actually played bass), but this should not dissuade the researcher from tapping into some excellent material, well annotated and presented in a very easy to read format.

A book that does not belong in the "Complete Guide" series
A warning to potential buyers: this book does not offer track-by-track commentary, like other titles on the "Complete Guide to The Music of..." series. The author simply uses each Queen album as a book chapter and re-tells the group's story for the upteenth time. Also, he states in no uncertain terms that what Queen did best was "disposable pop". So much for the band's heavier songs - powerful rockers such as "The Prophet Song", "Sheer Heart Attack", "Brighton Rock" and "Son and Daughter", to name a few. I wonder how this book was approved for this series. It should have been written by someone who really appreciated Queen's whole body of work and not just the singles.

We AREN'T The Champions, My Friend
A disappointing volume in the complete guide series. This book does not offer track by track analysis found in the other guides in this series. In fact, the overview of the band's history and impact is not very good and sketchy at best. In fact, you get a lot of tracking information from the "hits" CD booklets. (Usually you get more information from the books in the Complete Guide series, not the other way around)

Disappointing entry in the "Complete Guide" series
The book on Queen should have been part of "The Complete Idiot's Guide" series. Hogan seems more interested in doing a biography of the group, instead of covering their "music" (which is supposed to be the series' aim). This book is recommended only to people who are unfamiliar with Queen and their story.

Don't waste your money!
The author's "research" consists of copying previous guides to the area and transfering topos onto bad photos. Unfortunately, the result is incomplete, inaccurate, and incoherent. As best as can be determined, no effort was made to talk to any of the route authors for this area. You're better off going to the cliff and asking other climbers for directions, recommendations, route names, and grades.

Thoroughly Disappointing
I thought this book would have detailed information about which dates in which each song was recorded. Instead, all you "learn" is which span of months so-and-so album was recorded. Save your money.
