Harrison's is essential
I have used Harrisons since the eighties. I am a Clinical Psychologist dealing with patients who often have multiple medical problems. Harrison's is a complete solution to getting up to the date medical information, not only the book and CD but also the Website. It is expensive, but if you only ever buy one medical text, this has to be the one.

I Became and Still Remain a Nonsmoker With This Book!!!!
Okay, so it was the original title "Quit smart : a guide to freedom from cigarettes" that I used oh those many years ago, but I'll guarantee that this one is as good if not even better than the original edition! I tried all the books, the tapes, the pills (no easily accessible patch at the time), and then I found "Quit Smart". It laid everything out in three basic steps: 1) Preparing to become a nonsmoker, 2) Becoming a nonsmoker & the hardest 3) Remaining a nonsmoker. I read it and followed the program and it really worked. I passed it on to a friend and never saw it again. She said that it helped her and her friends. I highly recommend this book. It actually made the process less painful. To this day, I have not touched a cigarette, and I feel great ... Oh, and the author also has a method to help you from gaining weight when you quit. That works, too. I really only gained about 5 pounds. If you really want to quit smoking, buy this book. You won't regret it!

Spider-man fans will enjoy.
For those young people out there who want to read a Spider-man book rather than a comic book. Excellent quality photo-animation pictures and graphics accompany approximately twelve sentences per page. I enjoyed this book more than I did the movie. A must have for any young fan. Grades 4-8

A must-have reference book
What can one say for this bible of internal medicine ! Excellent algorithms, organised sections about the diseases with precise information are dominant in this book. It's a reference book with the ability to keep you satisfied no matter what you are looking for. If it's not in Harrison's it isn't anywhere !

A MUST BUY for the future Internist
This book is the Bible of Internal Medicine. Anyone considering a career in medicine should have this book in their library. Comprehensive and well written, it is the gold standard of medical textbooks.

Harrison's keeps being an authority in medicine
This book is a medical tradition, and it is as important to doctors as their stethoscope.
It is very complete, there is no doubt about it. Every subject of medicine is covered, and for a reference book is a must-have. It is also written in an easy-to-read way, but some chapters are more difficult to understand than others, and like a good meal, in excess it can get heavy and occasionally become a brick, so slow-reading is advised. Also worth to mention are the atlases, that give a lot of pictographic information.
I would recommend it only as a reference book, because for the USMLE, or as a course textbook, it is impossible to read it all, especially if time is scarce.

The Apostolic Church: One, Holy, Catholic and Missionary (Lutheran Society for Missiology Book Series)

Illuminating
Wonderful to read and enjoy the freedom of viewing the Church as Apostolic AND Missionary -- because the Church is Apostolic and Missionary and always has been. Pair the book with contemplations on the Nicene Creed and early church history and you've got quite a bit to consider and contemplate. Information about the history of "Jewish Apostles" was new to me, but I can see how it all fits together. Wonderful surprise gift to anyone considering Mission Work. It's a real gem. Buy two copies, because you're sure to know someone who would benefit from it, and you'll want to keep yours! It belongs on every missionary's bookshelf, and student of Biblical Studies. Bravo!

A look at the missionary emphasis in the word "apostolic."
This book is a must-read for the church historian interested in outreach. It looks at the word "apostolic", recognizing the missionary importance in that word for the church. Scudieri notes that unless the church regains it missionary flavor, it is not being the church. The central focus of the historical church in the book of Acts, for the apostles, and for the church today must be missionary. Without that clear focus, Christ's task of seeking and saving the lost, which is now done through the church, will take a backseat to the needs of those already in the church.

The most unique and most copied potter in the world.
This book has marvelous images of just some of the fine works that George Ohr created. The summaries of his life are correct to some extent but it failed to provide any deatails of his offspring or how they may have carried on the innate artist abilities, this is why I only give it four stars.

the most amazing book of pottery I have ever seen!
this man was a a head of his time. i have never seen anythig that has come out of the 1800's that looked any thing like this. The photography is great and the biography is good , but the pottery is the best i have ever seen he had great form and great glaze you could not ask any more from a potter

Research Methods
This book was helpful in the class taken at a CT University. It was relatively easy to understand, that is, as easy as statisticsCAN be to understand. Most of the students had taken an introductorystats class a while back, so the examples were helpful. I will say that students get in a rut and do not end up reading as they should. This book was very helpful in understanding the lectures as long as the reading was done! ...

A Great Learning Tool
I just finished a Research Methods in Psychology class that used this text. Overall, I thought this book was excellent. All the topics discussed are well organized and explained with many helpful examples. The writing is clear and generally easy to understand. I struggled with a couple chapters but class discussions helped clear up what I didn't understand. Some of the students in my class complained that the reading could be a little dry at times and the chapters a little long. I don't necessarily agree with that. I would describe the chapters as thorough and to me, they were interesting. I think those who complained were just less motivated and wouldn't enjoy the subject matter no matter how it was presented.

One of the things I found most helpful was the fact that each chapter begins with a list of key points to be presented in the chapter. These were a great help in keeping focused during the reading. I think anyone who bothered to do them would also find the questions at the end of each chapter to be very helpful. I tried to answer them regurlarly when preparing for tests found that they thoroughly covered the important material. Those along with the publisher's website were my key to success in the class I took. The final chapters do a good job of explaining statistics needed to write a research report (although I think a class in statistics is needed to really understand everything). There is also a complete, annotated research report at the end of the book which I also found very helpful (more helpful than the sample report provided in the APA style manual).

Norman and Middle English versions of the Arthurian Legends
After Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain," the two most important Arthurian Chronicles were Wace's "Roman de Brut" and Layamon's "Brut." This Everyman Paperback edition presents these two works as translated by Eugene Mason circa 1912. The name "Brut" reflects that of "Brutus," the eponymous founder of the British race and history. Robert Wace was a Norman-French writer, born in Jersey circa 1100 and educated at Caen. While Wace does follow Geoffrey in terms of order and substance, he did have access to additional sources as well and adds not only new scenes to the Arthur legend but made him even more courtly than Geoffrey had accomplished in transforming the folk-hero of Welsh legend into the epitome of the Christian monarch. Little is known about Layamon, except that he lived at the end of the 12th century and was connected with the church of Arley Regis in north Worcestershire. Layamon is the first important poet to write in Middle English and his "Brut," a direct imitation of Wace's "Roman de Brut," is the first story about Arthur written in English instead of Saxon. In addition to Arthur we find stories about Lear and Cymbeline along with other prominent English legends. Layamon downplays the French influences and transforms Arthur into an English hero, "English" in the sense of "Beowulf," which menas more of a Germanic hero who is brave and daring. In this account we find a more complete account of the founding of the Round Table and Layamon even works in elves that attend the infant Arthur and bestow upon him gifts. Consequently, these Arthurian Chronicles continue the evolution of the Arthurian legend from its Welsh legends and Geoffrey's history, adding episodes and transforming the central character. Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain" remains the primary original text for King Arthur and is the obvious first choice for any class covering the Arthurian legends. But these works are important for a more complete understanding of the Medeival Arthur. Mason's translation is somewhat stilted, but actually suits the texts somewhat, so it is not as disconcerting as translations down during that same period of Greek or Latin works.
