Great SF!
Born With the Dead was a fast-paced, yet horribly slow. It left you feeling tired. When a work has that much effect, there's something to it. The Saliva Tree has brilliant use of dialogue. These people are just average people living in extraordinary cirucmstances; just what the core of science ficiton is. The aliens rather reminded me of truly evil Bunniculas, completely without innocencence. A great "alien invader" story. They are both outstanding pieces of literature, and I'm glad to have bought this Tor Double.

Five Stars
It's amazing to me that this book has not been reviewed yet! This book is one of the very best collections of fine art I have ever seen. It beautifully preserves the natural details of an age-old paradise with the personal narrative of a brilliant photographer discovering his own truths in his surroundings.
The colors vibrant, the landscapes fantastically orchestrated, and the frankness astounding, this book makes the perfect gift for any friend, relative, art enthusiast or coffee table.

A Miracle for Forensic Students and Crime Writers alike
As a crime writer (First Kill, The Girl By The Lake), I'm always on the lookout for great forensic reference books. I've bought this book five years ago and it has served me well. It covers, in alphabetical order, everything from scene of crime procedures, genetic fingerprint, DNA, ballistics, to profiling, knife wounds, and on and on. If it's related to crime, it's in there. Plus, apart from definitions, there are great case examples and diagrams to help the explanations when appropriate. Whether you're a forensic student, or a budding crime writer, do yourself a favour and get this one. Worth every dollar.

What I have been waiting for!
People in my industry (golf) finally have a "Bible" to refer to when it comes to professional irrigation systems. Laid out in a basic, yet thorough format this book has it all, from good photos to useful charts and glossary. Anyone even considering installing a new system should have this book at their side. I wish I had it when our system was designed and "thrown in the ground" by a purported expert.

A superb addition to 20th Century Irish history
Collaboratively edited by Brian Girvin and Geoffrey Roberts, Ireland And The Second World War: Politics, Society And Remembrance is an impressive and scholarly selection of critical essays focusing on the role of Ireland in World War II. The Line of Battle: The Sailing Warship 1650-1840
Published in Hardcover by Book Sales (1900)
Authors: Robert Gardiner and Brian Lavery
Amazon base price: $24.99
Average review score:

Superb brief account of sailing war ships
I was delighted by this book. Each chapter is an artcile on a aspect of the sailing warship. The book restricts itself to the years 1650-1840, this being the time period where sail, not oars nor steam, was the predominant motive force for ships. It is also limited in scope to ships used in war. This ranges from the large 100+ gun ships down to ship tenders and hulks.

The first several chapters focus on the size, rigging, and use of different classes of ships. Later chapters give a pleasantly simple account of how sailing works, the tactics used in a battle where the guns are slow to load and the wind and tide have a pronounced effect on the combatants, the decoration on the ships, details of the fittings, and more.

This was a more scholarly work than the cover would imply. There is a wealth of good figures, with numerous photographs of period models. Aside from a few typrographic errors, the text is well written and clear.

The Single First Source for Neuropathology
As a neurology resident, I find this book to be extraordinarily helpful. It is, as the title of this review suggests, the first text I consult for any neuropathology question. It is also an outstanding resource for concise summaries of the clinicopathological hallmarks of a wide variety of conditions.

The book contains numerous high-quality photographs of gross anatomical pathology and histopathology. The text is well-written, clear and concise. There are a number of handy summary tables in each section. The overall layout of the book is clear, aesthetically pleasing, and visually appealing. The color coding of different sections is helpful in reviewing a given topic, and the index is complete.

Some previous reviews suggested that bibliographic references could be more complete. While this is true, I find it to be a minor point in such an otherwise outstanding text. For comprehensive treatment of any given subject, other, more detailed textbooks are available, but few can rival the clarity of text and quality of pictures in Ellison et al.

From the perspective of an academic neurologist in training, this is the one neuropathology book I want to have on my bookshelf. It is an outstanding contribution to the field.
